A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Maybe a GE isn't so far away after all.
Farage says he expects a GE in 2027.

10 to 25% of vapes found in schools are laced with Spice (artificial cannabis). Drug dealers (notice the brown hands in the images used here) are advertising them on social media then selling them to kids over snapchat. Kids are getting addicted and then when they try to recover the drug dealers threaten them. Just another day in multicultural Britain.

You just know that pint cost the poor man at least £13.

This Nadine Dorries fart-huffing is making me feel sick.

EDIT: Unconfirmed reports that Cooper is out as Home Sec and will be replaced with Mahmood

Mahmood? Well that won't be for long as she's likely to go over and join Jezbollah and co.

Mad Nads Army - brilliant.

Anyway, I was asked to mention this article in my Wales thread by @Artificial Stupidity, but I'm also going to mention it here as it might be worthy of discussion given what's happening with the mass Muslim rape gangs:

(archive.is and archive.today isn't working on my computer at present, sorry).

You will live to see the absolute and complete collapse of two political juggernauts simply because neither of them could stand the idea of not importing infinite rapists to punish the population and to keep making number go up no matter the cost.
How does it feel?

A picture is forming. I reckon Rayner was going to launch a leadership bid. She was setting herself up for a safe seat in Hoveactually, as the safety of her seat in Ashton was becoming unpredictable (growing support for reform and jezbolla around there). Switching to Brighton at the next election would ensure there was no possibility of losing the leadership, should she have held it.

I believe the anonymous briefing against her can only have come from No 10, as it contained information to which cabinet members might not have been privy, but the cabinet office was. That means it came from Morgan McSweeney, which makes sense if you consider that Rayner is firmly in the Blairite camp. McSweeney rejects Blairism in its entirety, even though there are superficial similarities to his own political leanings. No 10 saw her prepping for a run (as I've said before, the way labour's leadership election works requires potential candidate to canvas for support before formally announcing their candidacy) and after some attempts to negotiate with her, decided to force the issue and take out a Blairite insurgency before it gets too established. It would take years to rebuild her image before she can run, now. She's toxic.

Rayner won't be allowed to run in Brighton and Hove at the next election; the selection committee won't countenance it. I suspect she may even be de-selected come the election, assuming Starmer or McSweeney remain at no 10.

Starmer's chief secretary just came out and said Rayner did the right thing by resigning. That's as close to a crab rave as you'll get in politics.

I don't know, just look at all the Tories joining Reform and the kind of people that they are allowing.

The policies will be watered down, they aren't even intending to deport families.

Things are changing quickly, and the rats noticed and are jumping ship, true.
But Reform currently needs to play something akin to the long game, its bigger than Nigel, and the good part about knowing who all the rats are from the get-go is that it becomes a lot easier to drown them.
You can't just reject them outright, at least not right now.

But the true right wing of this country should at least be wary of the antics of Tories when they jump ship, we've seen this exact behavior before. Douglas Carswell comes to mind, the snake.

It is amusing to watch Farage decry censorship on the internet on the very same day he welcomes the OSA's biggest supporter and chief architect into his party.

I am well aware that these contradictions do not matter to the average voter and will not have any influence on the result of the next election, but they will guarantee that a Reform government breaks down even more quickly than this one has.

Depending on who Reform bring in, I'm not so sure it'll be watered down - in fact I think a lot of people are now of the opinion that Nigel is right.

Robert Jenrick, Laura Trott, Mims Davies, Miriam Cates and the former Tory Andrew Bridgen all joining Reform UK would certainly IMO not be watering down - they are very much 'Right Wing' Tories, perhaps even too Right Wing for Badenoch and co.

What Reform UK has done is captured both bases - the traditional Tory voter who wants low taxes and his/her community to be safely run and managed and the traditional Socialist voter of the industrial powerhouses (South Wales, Midlands, the North) - and this unity of classes has been a master-stroke.

Yes, you're going to get Big Baz and Big Boobs from Torfaen at Reform UK, but you're also going to get the suited and booted business class there - the workers and jobs providers rubbing shoulders and more importantly getting along with each other.

I'm from the working class, but I don't hate millionaires and billionaires who provide jobs and employment; what I hate is the leech class holding me down ensuring I don't become rich and successful and also trying to pull down those people who provide work because 'rich people evil'.

If Cooper has gone by the end of the day, I'd expect 'Noddy' (Ed Balls) to join Tony up in Liverpool to work out a way of plotting and potting Starmer. I'm not even sure McSweeney likes Starmer, remembering that he had Sue Gray ousted as well.

Guido is reporting a rumour that every minister in the Home Office (which I believe includes Angela Eagle and Jess Phillips) barring Diana Johnson is going to be moved or sacked.

What a relief. I'm sure we can trust a devout Muslim who grew up in the middle east with stopping hordes of third worlders from swarming our shores. I assume she was picked because of her fantastic idea of releasing thousands of prisoners early so that they could imprison housewives who write mean tweets. That's a 4d chess move by Starmer.

Someone said Mahmood, this Mahmood? Yes that's right, let's put another clown in charge!
Criminals face being banned from pubs, sports grounds and concerts under new government plans to give judges powers to pass tougher community sentences.

The new measures, which would apply to people in England and Wales, "should remind all offenders that, under this government, crime does not pay", Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood said.

Offenders' freedom could also be curtailed with limits on driving, travel bans and restriction zones confining them to specific areas, the government said.

Similar measures could also apply to prisoners let out on licence, while drug testing would be expanded to include all those released, rather than just those with a history of substance misuse.

While judges are currently able to impose limited bans for specific crimes, such as football bans for crimes committed inside a stadium on match day, the new measures would allow for such bans to be handed down for any offence.

The justice secretary said: "When criminals break society's rules, they must be punished.

"Those serving their sentences in the community must have their freedom restricted there too.

"These new punishments should remind all offenders that, under this government, crime does not pay.

"Rightly, the public expect the government to do everything in its power to keep Britain safe, and that's what we're doing."

The proposals are part of the Labour government's efforts to tackle overcrowding in prisons.

Back in June, it emerged that prisoners were to be transferred to lower security jails in an effort to ease overcrowding, as part of a new measure quietly unveiled by the government.

Sky News reported earlier this month how the prison system was close to collapse on a number of occasions between autumn 2023 and summer 2024, according to an independent review by former chief inspector of prisons, Dame Anne Owers.

The report said there was a systemic problem which has led to recurring prison capacity crises over the last 18 years.
