A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Old women are the unsung drivers of mass movements. They can work wonders, as long as they don't turn into a white feather-style movement.

Did you get it up for them?
Yup. I see the old dears as a good barometer for this kind of thing. I got the full treatment.

I do have a legit excuse though. My flag goes on my antenna mast which is down at the moment while I replace my guying wires. It'll be back up tomorrow with any luck.

I don't want to upset the blue rinse mafia.

Godspeed Brits, I don't know how Burgers can help but tell us some ideas.
We’re all waiting for that Bloody Sunday moment (the Russian one not the IRA one were they shot first) were peaceful protestors are set on so badly by the police and lefty union member auxiliaries that even the media can’t cover it up.

That’s when everyone goes from Minecraft to IRL.

It's all of the West against Oceania.

So, any of you folks joining your fellow citizens at the Notting Hill Carnival today?

Looks like a fun time! And the perfect setting for a Hugh Grant Rom-Com.

One story that is seeing a lot of traction and I believe it to be true because the department is full of people who go to the press. That story is Rachel needing to go to the IMF. Now this is actually important because it is an event that has a few moving parts.

So, before I start, the IMF is mostly under US control. Its board largely consists of US bosses or US satellites. A few months ago, the IMF put out information regarding its Article 4 consultation. Basically, they sense Rachel coming.

The US taking an interest in our politics is an interesting matter here. My theory is the White House thinks Starmer is going to pull a Le Penne on Nigel. Whilst I do not agree with his policies, he at least is starting to understand the only method to cure the problem.

Trump has played a great game of letting Starmer hang himself. He has lied to Trump and the American people live on air over half a dozen times. Starmer really is a cunt because he just flagrantly lies and thinks everyone is stupid. The problem is now, Starmer has nowhere to really run to because Macron is fucked and Germany appears to be turning too. Spain is going hard nationalist, as is Italy. Trump is humiliating him live and in an act of revenge, boosting his opposition internationally. Remember, Starmer helped Kamala; the Donald does not forget.

I think the tone when Parliament comes back is going to be very different. Corbyn has cleaved his majority, and the rumours of Jenrick joining Reform are looking to be true. The uniparty is practically in tatters, with 2 leaders widely despised. Fuck at least Corbyn is honest with his communism, should he be allowed power, NEVER.

A reckoning is coming, and the cabinet is getting its last sun in before the gloom sets in.

Uniparty can still exist with Corbyn and Nigel being the new labour and conservatives. A rebranding isn't out of the question.

I mourn the state of British culture when Greggs is considered food. They sell Gregg's sausage rolls in Iceland. Iceland is the shit place you go to find weird food to share with your mates as a laugh. It's as scummy as scummy comes!

Can you feel it yet, boys? I can. Any day now in the Daily Mail.
I always supported mass deportations, actually. They're the only way out of this pernicious kerfuffle that rivals the battle of Alexander The Great.

I thought you’d cut down on the long form fan fiction?

Oddly enough the Iceland version of Greggs' stuff is better than Greggs. If I am on a cheat day, I get some steak bakes and bang em in the air fryer. Chicken and rice are cheap and great macro wise but at a point, you want a Tesco meal deal.

Brown hands typed this.

If you think the US has no interest in the state of the UK, then you are retarded. They have always wanted their sphere to be safe. Trump's style is very akin to MacArthur in establishing soft brinksmanship; he is not as hardline, but he creates soft what-ifs

If you think Reeve's not needing to go to the IMF by December, well, you do you. Her scrambling for a shred of tax money like a crackhead says otherwise.

One of the things I like most about traveling is going to a town at lunch time. You see a queue a mile long outside the local bakery and cake shop. It's where the good local freshly baked food is. Not the Iceland in an air fryer out the back and left in a display sausage rolls are. They're always freshly made ready for lunch and the pastry was made the same day too probably.

I am becoming that old man who's angry at the youth for how they eat. Costa, Greggs and Weatherspoons seem very cosmopolitan to me. Even American to a point. I like local women in hair nets servicing me bear shaped biscuits and iced buns with those awful glazed cherries on top you always eat first.

I understand completely. I am lucky that I live in an area with about 6 old-style bakeries, but I cannot touch the food, it's too good. I am the type of person who has to keep chocolate and stuff out of the house. Good cake like that, I can destroy a homemade Victoria sponge in minutes.

I think, ironically, the having of scads of guns is one of the things that keeps the American right so docile. They're so confident that they will totally be watering the tree of liberty any time now, you betcha, that they have allowed themselves to be salami sliced into a militarised police state and every fresh infringement is met with "if they keep pushing then by God 1776 will commence again!". But it never does.
It's not that, it's just the stakes are higher. Us 1776 patriots are in the same boat as you bongs; we can't take the government because the system is against us.

You bongs can't talk openly online about your problems, where we can, though neither of us can organise real action and resistance.
We can't protest like you can, because if we do, guns are brought and it goes south quicker than it can be controlled.

Look at this thread, you have posters warning other posters that you could be sent to jail for fedposting. How can you realistically oppose a system that loves migrants more than the nationals? How can you speak out about the problems if you end up in the klink for 3 years for meanwords.
It's no better for us. If we organise any group we're called a militia because of the guns and we never see the light of day again.

The saving grace of America and what has been robbed from you is open space. The EU has brought together countries then stopped you from moving to rural, white-only areas.
At least in the state we can go innerwoods easily and avoid metropolitan areas.
