A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

We could fix so many things if this happened.
I honestly thing decimation would fix a lot of societies ills.
"NHS waiting lists are too long!" All the spazzed out crackheads lining the halls screeching for drugs are made to do the Decimato.
"Too many migrants." Decimato, and then send the other 9 home to spread the word.
"The french are stealing our fish." OH YOU FUCKING KNOW THEY'RE GETTING DECIMATED!

While I fear I may be holding a hammer and seeing a world of nails with this idea, I fear more than it will not be used to its fullest potential. Thus, I wish to hammer away.,

I'm tired, boss.
I look to the UK's past, and I see one of the greatest nations to have ever existed, the nation that is massively responsible for so much development of technology and progress worldwide.
I look to the UK's present and I see a struggling nation that has lost everything that once made it 'Great', a joke of a nation that prioritizes foreign nationals over its own veterans. A nation that once held the prestigious honor of 'The Empire on which the Sun does not set' that does not even have that anymore.
I look to the UK's future, and I see only chaos. I don't see things getting better. All of our politicians do not speak for the population, and they are completely unaccountable.

When we stopped executing leaders that fucked over the population is when our society was pretty much guaranteed to get fucked, I'm not gonna sugar coat it.

It's true. The only thing that ever works is lethality. If the people in charge don't fear for their lives when they fuck up badly, then they don't have any actual consequence. They can make their money and fuck off to the Caymans without fear that someone is going to kill them.

@Morethanabitfoolish Well remembered! Ricky Jones' trial will certainly be interesting
Predictable more like.

They will find that the mysterious far right did set up these razor blade posters he claimed they did (a similar lie is also perpetuated by the trans rights activists that keep getting proven false). Somehow he will not have bothered to report this to the police or anyone else and the people caught on camera putting up the alleged poster will be fat, hair dyed an odd colour and wearing a face mask and an anti-fascism shirt as well as doing so a month after he claimed to originally see it happen. No questions will be asked about this in the courtroom and his sentence will be reduced due to this dangerous provocation by the far right.

Whilst, to quote Treguard from Knightmare, 'The only way is onward, there is no turning back' we need to go back to the good and decent society which we had before.

We can advance the good things without compromising on our freedoms and subverting our democracy.

Things won't get better, you're absolutely right, and 95% of people can now see it. Even Remain voters and Hard Left voters are in agreement with the Far Right that Starmer is NOT serving anybody but himself and even his own party hate him.

Eventually (soon) we are going to have to make the biggest call in our history - it's no longer a case of 'oh well wait for things to get better' as the vast majority of people are now in agreement that we are going the wrong way and it's our voice that matters.

From chaos and despair comes light and hope, and when the choice is do or die then we have to choose light and hope as the alternative is death.

@Morethanabitfoolish I suspect that will happen, but then I reckon Labour will pot him as he's too toxic a character for them to now be associated with. He'll vanish into the ether and will be forgotten in the sands of time.

In television news, I wonder if anyone caught Masterchef in its new, neutered format tonight. Not great to watch, the editor has clearly been through and removed anything that isn't strictly related to food, cooking or judging the qualities of the food. Sad really, I feel like Banijay (formerly Smile) really don't want to lose the BBC who they do a lot of content for.

I've met/worked with Gregg and John numerous times as I was connected to Masterchef for many years, Gregg especially was a character the BBC/Banijay paid for, so why they get to throw him under the bus like they had nothing to do with it is disgraceful. Gregg wasn't some 24/7 sex pest, a product of a different environment encouraged to dial it up to 11.

Another flagship show for the BBC produced for them by Ricochet, had its main presenter charged with rape as well as 'controlling or coercive behaviour' about a year after he stepped back from the show. I am surprised this isn't a bigger deal since 'The Repair Shop' became huge with Jay being a well known face. It was well known that he was not pleasent towards women - so why again does the BBC get away with employing him.

No lessons have been learnt from the Savile days, the BBC is still extremely reluctant to properly vet its employees as well as take appropriate action when their unsavoury pasts/presents are 'revealed'.

I only just started reading this thread so maybe this has been discussed previously but in recent pages I don't see any discussion at all of the fact that the UK is a nuclear power. You guys have iirc over a hundred operational nukes stalking around the world in the oceans.

why is your political vibe so third world? your government matters.

Import the third world.
Become the third world.
There's nothing about the landmasses these people come from that is inherently third world.
It is naturally the people themselves.

We have a system the Americans control, on 4 subs of which I think two are typically operational at a time. The most recent test launches of a missile have failed so nobody is sure how reliable it is. It costs a fuckton of money, just to have a few stones to throw at the avalanche of Russian/Chinese/whatever else nukes that would be raining down on the UK should the warheads be used. If it's so important to NATO to have an extra Euro area nuclear power, maybe all the non nuclear members should contribute to it's upkeep rather than British taxpayers.

sure ok but you still have nukes. if Mexico devolves into a complete narcostate, if whoever follows Erdogan lets crazy shit happen in Turkey - basically if Venezuela and Iraq/Syria happen in those places - it's unfortunate but it's basically just a pimple on the ass of the world. but if that happens in the UK it's stage 4 ass cancer.

It's definitely true that certain people are no longer wanted by the BBC, and it's interesting that they defended Savile and Edwards so robustly yet have axed Greg, Jay and Wynne without a guilty verdict being reached.

At the same time, others who are suspected of being creeps and bullies are getting away with it because their face and their politics fit.

A YT mate of mine from the Midlands worked in the media and told me that the biggest creeps are protected because not only are they all similarly minded, they can all bring each other down - they all know who is a nonce, a perv, a rapist, higher than Keith Richards on Colombian marching powder etc.

If you want to know who some of them are, look at the most talent-less celebrity and how often he/she appears on the telly. With Savile, anybody could have presented the shows which he did, yet he was chosen despite being a flat-out weirdo. The same trick is being played today.

Then in that case, invade us.
Please, it might improve things.

I sincerely and with all my heart hope and pray you are right.
If I'm wrong then well, someone already said it better than I ever could.

I spent 8 years in the cages, a time to think and plan. Though they locked away a boy I walked out a man.

Lock up the average man that doesn't really give a shit about immigration beyond 'yea it's fucked and we should cut back on that' for having that opinion and it will do nothing but radicalize him. Force the average man to interact with what you're saying and brick sales will skyrocket.

As much as I will say the same shit, mostly just because the troubles had a pretty big impact on my childhood and life, I think it's fucking retarded to compare them to right now. If you want to say the troubles started at 1916 then those were successful freedom fighters who fought against oppression and occupation. That's the best example. But there won't be an Easter rising, if shit hits the fan it will not be started by a group of armed heroes occupying London. The full on troubles also isn't really a great comparison either. They were started by the UVF, a group that out of a paranoid delusion decided to kill nationalists to try and send a message to someone that didn't even exist. Compare that to the government trying to arrest our nationalists all you want, but we are past that point. The paranoia that caused the UVF to kill people was completely unfounded, they thought the IRA were still a thing when they hadn't been active for decades. The current government and the migrants are currently not just posing a threat but actively going through with it that is much larger than the IRA ever did to the UVF. Even the actions of the UVF that caused the reformation of the provos are still less than the actions that migrants have done to englishmen, let alone what the government has done. The other thing to keep in mind is that both the loyalists and nationalists wanted to fight. These migrants probably don't want to. They have come here to escape conflict and sponge off of our socialist systems. If you start shooting at them and make it very clear they are not welcome here then that's going to cause immigration to drop off sharp, probably a lot of them will just fuck off to France or whatever where they don't have to worry. Let's put it this way, how many of these migrants ended up in Ukraine? And never forget, the IRA won. Ireland is free, the Easter rising was a success. The provos might not have emancipated those 6 occupied counties but they bowed out in a respectable manner and have had an incredibly pronounced impact on the politics of Ireland. The troubles ended with an acknowledgement that both north and south are brothers, that we might have a different history, that we might have a different religion, that we might be fundamentally different, but that at the core of it we are all brothers. That killing each other is nothing more than killing yourself, that going forward north and south should not fight against each other but instead side by side.

I saw a comment icucks' video that said something along the lines of 'why do scots hate immigrants, you have more in common with a jeet than a brit'. This is fucking retarded. History is history, it is the past by definition. Whether bad things happened in history does not matter. The south are my brothers, the north are also my brothers, we are all Irish. The scots have repeatedly voiced that they want to stay part of the UK. Sure, we are not the same, an englishman will never be a scot but we are united, hence the u in the UK. The fact that you are looking at every single part of the UK united should speak fucking volumes. When have the scots, welsh, irish and english ever agreed on something? The last fucking time was wwii. The fact that we are all united in our voices is fucking unprecedented. Whatever England has done to the other three over the course of history is nothing, that is in the past, the current problems are fucking current. Whatever they think about England is pointless, there is no point in fighting for Irish or Scots freedom if there are no irish or scots left in Ireland or Scotland. I mean just look at the SNP, racist indian who hated scots and did not give a shit about scottish nationalism despite the party name. Look at Ireland too, paras already telling the government to fuck off, they're already expressing hatred of the government and immigration. Rest of Ireland is too, they flew the fucking union jack next to the tricolour through fucking Dublin. You'd get a brick or firebomb through your window for flying the union jack in some places of Dublin, yet there they were, together, united, two enemies joined in a singular cause.

>Man who is physically unable to comprehend satire is also unable to comprehend Britain

Honestly, half the reason why I'm being so especially harsh on the elderly is that I feel like people are wanting drastic change but seem to believe that that drastic change will also allow for British indulgence.
I loved my life in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. I never asked for the drastic changes that have occurred since Blair came into power.

I just want these drastic changes reversed.

I saw the article on the BBC News website. I wonder why every reference made to Jay Blades gave him the title "Mr".

Every. Sodding. Time. Can't recall the BBC doing that with either Wallace or Torode. Anyone know why that would be?

Edit: Here is said BBC article

BBC News - The Repair Shop's Jay Blades charged with rape

Our system is not controlled by the Americans, this is a meme and I don't really know how it started. Our system is controlled by us, but the Navy was convinced by a literal QUANGO spamming them with reports and lobbying that to buy from the UK was a bad idea since Skybolt went poorly. So we rent (god it's so fucking gay) the launch system from the USA. There's no American sailors on our subs, command and control is still with us. We have our own solid rocket booster companies part owned by government so if we ever needed to, we could rustle up our own ICBM's inside of a few years (they won't work lmao, but ho-hum). The missile we use is itself probably not an off the shelf model, as the Americans had to go and build a bunch of specialised ones for us, and then keep it all secret under the PSA framework.

It's also only 1 submarine which is operational in a nuclear capacity at any one given time; the rest are being desperately kept alive by the Navy, or sailing to the USA to get more missiles. The cost of the whole endeavour is because we never bothered properly investing in it. We just let AWRE sit and rot in Tadley for nigh on 30 years. Now everything is fucked economics wise and the entire place a hive of construction so I think the government and military have shit themselves a little bit. Too late to do anything for Vickers though, ever since Trident fucking killed it. I had a look recently at what I could see about AWRE and how much they pay. Their entry pay for top class physicists with Masters degrees is ~38K. In Tadley, which is basically London prices. Are they actually retarded? Could you imagine trying to survive off of 38K when living near London. I had a look at rent near the area and it's sitting at around 1.3K a month; excluding bills and cost of food. If the government has got designs on building a new launch system to go with the fancy new bomb they're making (the A21); then they're deluded if they think 38K is going to be attracting anyone but 2:2 graduates.
