A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Not to give too much away, but I recently attended a function in the area as the friend of a former Treasury Manager of Nottinghamshire County Council (can say who he is in DM, if interested) and he said during informal chat that the Red Cross is paying for these illegals to come here if one of their family has already been given residency.

The language MPs have started to use to describe laws like they have already been passed and try to smash them past all the stages without any debate so they can portray themselves as doing more in knee jerk responses is another sign of how bad things are. Rather than well thought out laws that can actually do anything we are just going to have loads of meme laws that ended up existing just so an MP could get a soundbite of how well hard they are and none of the MPs even bothered to go in to debate as laws are getting decided more outside of parliament between MPs before they even get put forward rather than in the chambers.

Funny though, none of them can be bothered to walk to see the good bits and spend all their time preening, taking selfies and shitting up the bits closest to the car parks.
Also beware of obviously unqualified foreign drivers with "P" plates. It indicates they can't drive for shit, so give them a wide berth, and expect crazy maneuvers.

Slight PL but near me there’s a nice lake which one can walk, bike whatever around. The indigenous people walk a couple of miles down old knackered roads and have a pleasant walk around. Poo hands however will drive down a fucked road full of massive potholes and bits of wood just to avoid having to walk anywhere. Did laugh when I saw one of them pushing a massive baby buggy. Turns out it was the brother/uncle with extra chromosomes pushing the most inhovis uncle/brother while all the other family member fucked off.

The reason they help the illegals in distress is because they help anyone in distress even during ww2 they rescued German sailors if there boats foundered in areas they covered (an they handed them over to the police / army once safe), I know it's not the same but they are honnor bound to help anyone regardless of who or what they are and do the often thankless and rarely talked about job well.

I doubt Barton would know or even remember him, given it was some sort of "function", probably attended by a few hundred people, and it doesn't sound like it was a one-on-one conversation as such. They'd be more likely to go after Barton directly; he's the leader of Nottingham council, so getting him on a hate charge would be a much bigger coup.

Rayner declares war on allotments (telegraph)

Councils could cash in on public gardens to tackle funding crisis under new rules

Angela Rayner has given the green light for cash-strapped councils to sell off allotments to raise funds.

As Housing Secretary, the Deputy Prime Minister has given councils “flexibility” to sell some assets, including allotment sites, to fund day-to-day spending.

She has already personally approved the sale of eight allotment sites across England since Labour came to power. Under the Allotment Act 1925, any disposal of allotment sites requires Westminster to give the go-ahead.

Those that have already been sold include a site in Storrington, West Sussex, that will make way for 78 new homes. Residents have said the decision is “extremely disappointing”.

Ms Rayner has also given approval for two allotments in Ashfield, Notts, and two in Bolsover, Derbyshire, to be closed.

The Telegraph previously reported that the new rules on council asset sales could lead to the disposal of school playing fields, which a Government spokesman said should only happen where “absolutely necessary”.

But the changes allow local authorities “to determine how best to use this flexibility”, according to Jim McMahon, a housing minister, in a response to a parliamentary question from the Conservatives.

He added that the Government “expects all decisions to demonstrate value for money and to be in the best interests of local residents”.

Sir James Cleverly, the shadow housing secretary, condemned the changes and said they displayed a “complete disdain for protecting valued green spaces”.

“Angela Rayner giving the green light for councils to sell off allotments is a kick in the teeth to local people who don’t have access to their own gardens,” he said.

“On top of the Labour Government encouraging councils to sell off their playing fields, it yet again shows Labour’s lazy embrace of building on parks and green spaces rather than places where homes are needed and wanted.”

Blow to Jeremy Corbyn

The news is likely to come as a blow to Jeremy Corbyn, a passionate gardener who recently established a rival Left-wing party to Labour.

A representative for the former Labour leader, who has said his favourite vegetable to grow on his North London allotment is a marrow, declined to comment on the Government’s approval of sell-offs.

Councils, who the Local Government Assocation has said will face an £8bn shortfall by 2029, may be tempted to dispose of allotment space to raise money.

The local authorities are demanding the power to raise more of their own taxes, but those plans have been rejected by Rachel Reeves, who is concerned about giving up power to councils from the Treasury.

Despite Ms Rayner’s department announcing that the new rules would “extend the freedom” of councils to sell off assets, a spokesman said they had been allowed to dispose of some sites since 2016.

Thanks. And to @Made In Wales for raising it in the first place. I'm not currently a donor but I was a regular one in the past and without the information might well have donated again. I've tended to shift donations just to small local charities these days.

It's not even about who the target recipients are - I'm probably more up for foreign charities than some of the more vocal people in this thread. But so much of this stuff is corrupt or doing something else behind the scenes now it's all but impossible. There was a charity to help people in Libya (and for background I was very vocal about Obama and Sarkozy's combined coup and bombing party), and they shifted their focus to bringing people over to Italy. For the price of housing and feeding one single person in Italy, for the same amount of money you could feed and house eleven in Libya. Just based on economics it made no sense. You might think some were fleeing because they were targeted. Well yes - by the government Obama, Sarkozy put in place so either the Good Guys™ won or didn't they? And the charity was in no position to assess anything. It was just "we need to bring everybody here". Never mind the money would go vastly further by offering the aid locally.

Few things are as blackpilling as seeing even charities fucking ripping people off.
