A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

EDIT: I'm not retarded, we're not retarded, we don't need a government report to see what is obvious. This is just more smoke screening to try and convince the average person that there is a way out of this that doesn't end with everyone in government being put against a wall.
This is one of those situations where the potential exists for events to snowball. Think of Perestroika in the soviet union, which was an attempt to implement a few mild reforms, after decades of denying there was a problem. It started around 1986. The berlin wall came down in 1989 and the soviet union collapsed two years later, all from an admission that maybe something wasn't as hunky dory as the party had previously insisted.

We've had Starmer and half the front bench go from essentially denying there's a problem to rushing to announce a national inquiry due to the mere existence of this report. It's something that can very easily get out of their control now; if it does, it will tear down the entire edifice of the state, because of just how deep the rot of this runs. They have no choice but to admit error, even if it's only by their actions. That admission risks people demanding more from them no matter what they do next. I have faith that things will change beyond recognition in the next few years.

Fuck me. Away on business at the moment and the retarded city I’m in has a tourist tax. Doxxed myself for one night just then.

“I’ve got that in change”
“This is a cashless hotel, sir”
“I’m on a corporate stay and am only prepared to pay in cash.”
“This is a cashless hotel, sir.”
“I am only prepared to pay in cash. My employer booked this hotel.”
“This is a cashless hotel, sir”
“Do you want me to ring up my employer and have your hotel chain removed from our approved supplier list? I can go outside make that call and have another hotel booked for me? You can explain that to your corporate if you like?”
“We’ve waived the tourist tax payment, sir.”

I know this sounds like a the entire bus stood up and applauded story but this just happened.

When did it suddenly start becoming impossible to spend cash in places. Was stuck in another city because of trains, walked into a pub I liked and there was a “no cash payments” sign.

When I’m working away, I lift my per diem in cash, put that in my wallet, and that’s my budget. I don’t want to be putting stuff on my card in case I get run over my budget.

When did we get so fucking gay about taking cash?

I hate it, bros.

With the riots that have happened in england and northern ireland things are ready to catch fire imo. Every image of a migrant boat coming in is now a boat of child rapists

It's all so tiresome. The bottom line is that the government knew, the government still knows, the government won't stop it, and the government doesn't plan on stopping it. The only thing that would stop it, is people becoming violent. It's literally that simple. Our government is occupied - in the military sense - by people that hate us and want us dead and think it's at best annoying when our kids are raped, and at worst they think it's funny.

Under "illegalise penetration of under-16s", the following recommendation is an investigation into just straight up ignored cases and thereafter an investigation into the people who ignored them/left them unprosecuted to begin with.
Recommendation 2: A national police operation and national inquiry, coordinating a series of targeted investigations should be launched into child
sexual exploitation in England and Wales.
Step one: A national criminal investigation
A police operation to prosecute the perpetrators of Child Sexual Education should be
scoped and planned in detail by the Home Office, with the National Crime Agency
(NCA) and National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), with delivery overseen by the
NCA who should determine the level of support or intervention necessary to
supplement local forces’ capabilities.
Having scoped the operation at a national level, every local police force in England
and Wales should review records to identify cases of child sexual exploitation that
have not been acted on through:
ii) A review of cases that have been reported but which have not resulted in
prosecutions over the last ten years (building on the Home Secretary’s
151
existing commission to review cases where No Further Action has been
identified).
ii) A review of police and children’s services records to identify children who
have been at risk of or harmed by sexual exploitation over the last ten
years. Following the good practice approach of the ‘Smith algorithm’
applied by West Yorkshire Police, it would identify children in care, children
with repeated episodes of going missing, and children who have come to
the attention of the police or children’s services for being involved in or at
risk of sexual abuse. Access to children services records will require an
agreement of mandatory sharing of information to avoid legal delays.
Following procedures established in Operation Stovewood, and elsewhere, potential
victims identified from police and children’s services records should be approached
and investigations taken forward on their behalf to prosecution where appropriate
(these approaches are designed to be undertaken sensitively, with the support of
partner agencies, taking full account of potential victims’ circumstances and
vulnerability).
Crown Courts should play their part in this exercise to ensure these complex and
traumatic cases are listed quickly to stop perpetrators evading justice and bring
closure to victims
Step 2: A national inquiry co-ordinating a series of targeted local investigations
This would be overseen by an Independent Commission which has full statutory
inquiry powers, is time limited, targeted and proportionate to the numbers of victims.
Based on findings from the criminal investigation above, and submissions from
victims and witnesses, an Independent Commission should review cases of failures
or obstruction by statutory services to identify localities where local investigations
should be instigated.
There would need to be a process to identify instances and allegations of statutory
agencies’ failures, and we recommend that the government develops a list of criteria
to determine the types and extent of failures which should be used to assess the
triggering of a hearing.
The Independent Commission would set strict timescales and terms of reference for
the local investigations which would have a single appointed legal team, with full
statutory powers available to them, able to compel witnesses where they refuse to
cooperate. Each investigation will call witnesses to give evidence and will require
records to be submitted. Local authorities, police forces and other relevant agencies
should in the meantime be required not to destroy any relevant records.
There should be a charter for victims about what they should reasonably expect from
this process as they are once again asked to relive their experiences.
Local investigations could commence sooner in areas where the Independent
Commission and Home Office agree that sufficient evidence already exists.
Might be :optimistic: to assume the government would make an earnest attempt at this but who knows. If it was done competently and it was discovered they didn't investigate/deal with them sufficiently because they were afraid of "muh racism" or they were Paki themselves so avoided criminalising another one of their own, then the implications would be disastrous.

The report also does call out ethnicity being left out of the equation. 2/3rds! Surprised Manchester has accurate data collection though.

It's like they're trying to outright say the problem but can't, but can point everyone in the same direction mentally.

Edit: @Zoot This data needs to proliferate around social media, wherein it might catch the eye of younger people. Lowe will definitely talk about it. If GBnews talk about it, then Reform will have no choice but to address it since that's their only real platform outside of twitter. I don't think it will spark a similar/immediate reaction kind of like Southport (people need to get hit hard emotionally for a kick-off like that to happen — attempted rapes, murdering of little children) but like always this sort of thing never hurts to have. I don't think reactions from hereon out to terrorism, mass stabbings or similar displays of virtuous diversity will have people so muted in reaction anymore. Though the only way to prove this unfortunately is for something of the sort to happen, which I obviously don't want.

Interestingly I know for a fact the recently Skipton town had a day where they were encouraging people to pay cash only. They were so prepared about it they even had leaflets explaining that a full rejection of cash puts a dangerous amount of authority over people into the hands of a potentially authoritarian government.

I can find nothing about it online. I've seen the leaflets and know it happened but my searches are yielding nothing.

I think meming the idea that these migrant boats should always be reffered to as invading child rape gangs. I'm posting on right wing accounts to see if it can get picked up. I'm serving a 3 day ban on /pol/ so can't post to /britpol/.

people should be questioning why the coastguard is bringing in child rape gangs. the link is now proven Screenshot 2025-06-16 17.33.04.webp

I like this snowball more personally.
Feels more appropriate for some reason. :^)

Some latest news from GB News including:

* Richard Tice demands an apology from Yvette Cooper over the Grooming Gangs.
* Kemi Badenoch blasts Labour over Grooming Gamngs failures.
* Keir Starmer dodges questions over the Grooming Gangs.

Also:

150 Labour MP's set to rebel against Starmer over benefits cuts.

Should he threaten them with withdrawal of the whip if they go against him...

403-150 = 253 MP's

Oh dear, not enough to form a majority Government, even with the Lib Dems (325).

Plaid will want independence for Wales as a guarantee before supporting them in a coalition, as will the SNP for Scotland.

253 MP's and no guarantee that Badenoch, Davey, Farage, Independents, Saville-Roberts and Swinney (not including Sinn Fein as they don't sit at Westminster out of protest) won't elect to vote him out...

For reference, instead of this:

in America they list Hispanics and even blacks as white to skew the stats. They still try to hide crimes like these by simply not talking about them, so I'm surprised these stats even came out at all.

I like Spengler, am not an optimist, but I will leech off of yours and wish that you're correct.
One of the great things about being an optimist is that you've always got something new to be optimistic about.

Should he threaten them with withdrawal of the whip if they go against him...
He's just the kind of hidebound, brass-necked, thick-headed tosspot to actually do it, too. It's all piling up for him now. I just hope something actually happens.

I don't like the word grooming, or groomer. It's too soft, it's fluffy-fluffy, pink cotton wool language. grooming is linked with dog grooming, a happy, fluffy, helpful service to look after the dogs and cats.

They're organised, child rapists and they're muslim. Organised Pakistani-Muslim foreign nationals raping and sexually abusing native ENGLISH children. They are no Asian groomers. Asian groomers sounds like some chink washing a Shibu Inu.

When did we get so fucking gay about taking cash?
It started during COVID, another coheincidence that happened with the plandemic. Burger King stopped taking cash years ago.
The conspiracy theorists said they would come for the cash, force people onto digital currency, audit what you spend and buy, tax you extra for buying products that are too carbon negative and banning you from buying the wrong things.

Says she wants to do away with sanitized language but not once does she say "Muslim men are coming here and taping our children".

Was kinda surprised by the BBC Yorkshire news allowing a lass on who was a victim of Muslim rape gangs who says,in very clear English " Rotherham pales into comparison when put next to Keighley and Bradford and Bradford is basically the central hub of it all".
