A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I fucking hope so. Coming from a solidly middle-class, fairly well-to-do area, the way the EDL was seen by the rest of the british was pure old fashioned class snobbery. The "oh, but they are racist" angle was just an excuse for them to look down at people who they saw as below them.

I don't doubt it's pure cohencidence the only accepted outlet valve for such opinions was left to baz, but mr muslamic raygunnah gets no love from me; his lot are literal untermensch, broken clock and all that is what's going on there is all. He's the male version of Daisy May Cooper - narcisstic and up his own arsehole.

As for Cooper, a mate of mine who worked in TV said that he'd never normally punch a woman but he'd make an exception for her.

A few years back, the cancer charity 'Hope For Tomorrow' held a charity football match at Cirencester Town's ground and the 'This Country' crew demanded to be involved, made it all about THEM and Daisy turned up pissed and reeking of nicotine (she was about 8.5 months pregnant at the time).

Their presence caused trouble and the police had to be called.

I strongly believe that it was her family who also wrecked the 'Concert At The Kings' cancer festival, because they turned her and her family away from the VIP tent (they went one year, uninvited, and kicked off when they were denied access). Not long after this, a poison-pen campaign against this event started which caused the event managers a lot of issues to the point that they cancelled holding it.

We were having a kick around at uni and some daft cow from the women’s team joined and kept trying to bully me off the ball.

I let her have the ball then put a studs up sliding tackle to get it back.

She avoided me the rest of the game for some reason.

I rewatched Brassed Off a couple of years back. Man it makes me feel sad about what happened to the working class.

On who are people are, I think its important for the different groups on the British Isles to put their differences apart. Like proddies vs catholics. Welsh vs. Anglo-Saxons, etc. Past grievances should be understood through the lens of the divide and conquer of the traitors.

Couldn't see this in the thread anywhere but I've been following this TikToker for a bit Emily Larter, for the laughs. She basically went to Uganada as a white saviour charity worker.

The hold up is all his papeprwork has different names and ages, because Africans are trustworthy of course. she is often complaining about immigration spousal visa income requirements. It sounds like at the minute she will just scrape the requirements of £29k

Anyway, because of her I’ve just found out the government quietly released the MAC review on the income changes last week. Tl;dr don’t waste your time. They recommend lowering it again not raising it. Which is absurd considering the minimum wage is £25k these days. The whole point is proving you can support you and your whole family without any spousal wage being taken into account. Frankly I think £29k is low on that basis and it should be raised again.

I'm hoping that memetically the establishment's BAME word can catch on as the term to refer to all non-Briisth and Irish in our islands. Whenever the establishment call the british, people should be replying in comment: "he ain't british, he's a BAME" "Get the BAMEs outta here."

It's quite a good catch all term for all non-whites and cos it is the establishment, it's hard for it to be banned for it from places. And it sounds so dismissive of them. A bit like how on 4chan the term Latinx is so common.
