A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Despite the winter fuel u-turn being headline news, nobody seems excited or even gives a shit.
I said this in another thread and I'll repeat it here.

No-one with a brain trusts that come winter they won't have yanked it from the majority of people still.

Art shops are even better.
Last time I checked they were 3rd most common form of money laundering in Britain, no paper trail on transactions below about 30k.
Seriously, Buy an A0 plotter, claim to be selling prints, ……. , profit.
*Bob Ross music just intensified*

Looks like there was a protest outside Downing Street tonight, in solidarity with the 'kidnapped' Greta Thunberg and the motley crew of wankers.

There may be more over the next coming weeks as the angry Left is pissed that Racist Granny and Brexit Bernard the Old Codger are being given their fuel allowances back.

Watch now, the angry Left are going to bring Starmer and Labour down - the Far Right don't have to do anything other than goad them on.

At their angriest, the Far Right will shitpost edgy memes.

At their angriest, the Far Left will have no problem with killing people if it's justified in their eyes.

solidarity with a Swedish (not English) retard who was "kidnapped" (sailed right too them and was warned multiple times by the IDF to not to). The left really isn't beating the accusation that they care more about everyone else's politics over ours.

Because they know that they'll get away with it and have other far left organisations waiting to bail them out. The right has no such system and the government will come down on you with the full force of the law

Only to a point though - once they have a go at 'the Master' then even some on their side will go 'now that's going too far and we're attacking our side!'

When the Far Left views Starmer and Labour the same as Farage and Reform UK or Badenoch and the Tories and thinks 'we must destroy bad people' then we're in very dangerous territory.

Ironically, Summer is already here and another repeat of Southport is only going to accelerate the demise of the shittiest Government ever.

Looks like things are kicking off in the 6 counties (again) as there's been significant disorder in Ballymena, a town in central County Antrim, after a a local girl was reportedly the victim of an attempted gang rape by two Romani teenagers on Saturday 07. Apparently a large crowd gathered in protest of the assault, which quickly got out of hand as masked men attacked homes inhabited by migrants, including ransacking and torching two homes suspected to be the dwelling of the accused rape apes.

It should be noted that Ballymena has elements of both the UVF North Antrim Brigade and the independent UDA South East Antrim Brigade, both of which are thoroughly unpleasant, violent organisations who aren't fond of non-White, non-Protestants at the best of times, and especially not when girls in their community are being attacked.

Still, nice to see the Prods burning out gypsies rather than me for a change.

What happens when the state runs up against thoroughly unpleasant and violent men? Do they simply trample on them like they do with meek citizenry? Or do they back off?
What happens when those thoroughly unpleasant and violent men have the backing of their entire community?

Very true, and is this going to be the straw which breaks the Irish camel's back?

There's also issues in Whitehall as staff who believe that the UK is complicit with the genocide in Gaza are told 'well quit, if that's what you think':

Given that, along with the Digital ID malarkey which is being amplified on X, it does look like the fight back against Labour is on from all sides.

Whilst I don't think a Summer GE is going to happen, I do still think that one more Southport type incident will be a bridge too far for people and who knows what could happen come the Autumn when Trump is meant to visit these shores.

Also, those bot accounts trying to run cover for Labour by attacking Nigel on reopening Port Talbot are being picked apart by Communists, Union Members and the Far Right - they're not being believed by their own side and it's glorious to see them rip themselves apart.

Whilst I don't think a Summer GE is going to happen
Mate, how is this even a thought in your head?

Labour have a 165 working majority. Unless there's any reason for 165 Labour MPs to defect or even vote against the government (Labour MPs are spineless and will rebel over little things but fall back into line once threatened), this is total fantasy.

Even if Starmer resigns, the new PM will stay in power until 2029. These people don't just let go of power.

Even if Starmer resigns, the new PM will stay in power until 2029. These people don't just let go of power.
It's something which is a thought in the heads of a lot of people on all sides:

Let's have a look at the recent pivot by the BBC from attacking Reform UK to seemingly trying to 'understand' Reform UK - now, what's made them change tact? True, it could be a trap, but why change your modus operandi at a time when the incumbent Government is more weak and wobbily than prime Theresa May? Why do it when you will piss off most of the woke idiots who still believe that the BBC is the divine and sacred? It makes no sense other than they sense that change is in the air.

Let's also consider that many of Labour's own MP's would stab Starmer in the back, with or without the threat of 'you will comply' - comply with Starmer or be seen by the Wokes who put you there as a liar and moral sellout? Who would I fear more, were I a Labour MP - the boss, or the bosses of the boss who can cause me a lot of harm? One such vote which will test their resolve is the forthcoming Migration and Borders Bill, another one will be the now not-fit-for-purpose Leadbetter assisted dying Bill which looks set to fail or at least be bounced back between the Lords and Commons, probably until both sides realise that it's a waste of time and the majority of Doctor's will just ignore it anyway.

Even when Labour gets it right, there'll still be vociferous opposition from the Far Left:

Nuclear Power? Okay, cool, except that the Far Left will not allow this to happen and will threaten Labour MP's into not voting for the 'Nuclear Boogeyman'.

In my time on the Planet, I've not seen a Government collapse as fast as this one - Thatcher and Blair at their worst had more backing than Starmer did and only had one side attacking them. Starmer has everybody bar the bourgeois Left demanding he go - from Youth Demand and Gaza activists to Reform UK members like myself we are all saying the same thing; this simply is not working.

I've also said that maybe a GE is actually beneficial for Starmer in that he can kick out those not loyal to him pre-Purdah and then demand total respect and conformity - no longer the Labour Party, this is now the Starmer Party.

Oh, and there's also the matter of the Rent Boys and whether or not Starmer is a possible nonce as well.

In normal times, I would have said yeah maybe we'll have to wait until 2027 at least for things to get amplified enough that he starts to worry, but the downfall has already arrived:

In Wales, it is no longer Labour who are the popular party - we now have a virtual 50-50 split between Reform UK and Plaid Cymru with Labour and Tories nowhere and the Lib Dems past the point of salvation.

In Scotland, despite the recent success for Labour in Hamilton, the SNP and Reform UK are still an overarching threat and that is not going to go away - Scottish Labour are slightly different to UK Labour, though Anal Sewer or whatever his name is is doing a poor job as leader.

What some people need to realise is that since 2020 we're no longer in Kansas or in a sensible age - things happen and change comes around quickly. Without warning, we wake up to new disasters and new happenings that before would have seemed incredulous. Therefore, I would not leave anything to chance and I wouldn't back Starmer staying until 2029 - there's forces at play and even he cannot control his own fate and destiny completely.

Plus, when both sides are beginning to call for another GE, maybe it's not as far-fetched a possibility as we'd like to think. We're already on the edge and another big event will be the death knell - whether it's Ricky Jones somehow 'unaliving' himself or a Doctor from the Religion of Peace turning the Bluewater Shopping Centre into downtown Basra, one more event will spark riots and Starmer will not be able to quell them this time with diminishing Police and Military numbers.

Whilst an optimist who'll be bombarded with more rainbows than a gay bar, I am realistic enough to know that we live by new rules post 2020. Anything can happen, what will be will be.

It hasn't collapsed. The support for it has collapsed but that's mostly because there wasn't appetite for a Labour government, just a very clear indication that we didn't want another Tory one.

And even if they lose every Welsh seat, they will still have a huge majority.

More than 300 Foreign Office staff who raised concerns about potential UK "complicity" in Israel's conduct in Gaza were told if they profoundly disagreed with government policy they could consider resigning.
The staff letter, seen by the BBC, was sent to Foreign Secretary David Lammy last month.
In it, officials questioned the UK's continued arms sales and what they called a "stark… disregard for international law" by Israel.
The Foreign Office said it had systems for staff to raise concerns and added the government had "rigorously applied international law" in relation to the war in Gaza.
The reply to the staff letter was sent from Sir Oliver Robbins and Nick Dyer, the two most senior civil servants in the Foreign Office.
They told the signatories: "f your disagreement with any aspect of government policy or action is profound your ultimate recourse is to resign from the Civil Service. This is an honourable course."
The response was met with "outrage" according to one official who signed the letter.
"[There is] frustration and a deep sense of disappointment that the space for challenge is being further shut down," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The officials' letter signed on 16 May was at least the fourth such document sent by concerned civil servants to ministers and Foreign Office managers since late 2023.
The BBC understands the signatories represent a wide range of expertise across Foreign Office departments, embassies and missions including in London and overseas.
The letters have reflected the scale of the civilian death toll in Gaza, Israel's restrictions on aid supply and Israeli settlement expansion and settler violence in the occupied West Bank, among other issues.
Staff are also said to feel disquiet that many of their warnings have not been acted on, and those whose jobs it is to implement decisions could be liable in any future legal proceedings against the UK government.
The 16 May letter said: "In July 2024, staff expressed concern about Israel's violations of international humanitarian law and potential UK government complicity. In the intervening period, the reality of Israel's disregard for international law has become more stark."
It went on to list the killing by Israeli forces of 15 humanitarian workers in March and Israel's suspension of all aid to Gaza in the same month "leading many experts and humanitarian organisations to accuse Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war".
It said the UK government's position had contributed to "the erosion of global norms", citing continued weapons exports and the visit to London in April by Israel's foreign minister Gideon Sa'ar "despite concerns about violations of international law".
It added that, "supported by the Trump administration, the Israeli government has made explicit plans for the forcible transfer of Gaza's population".
In their response on 29 May, Sir Oliver and Mr Dyer told the staff the department wanted to see "healthy challenge" as part of the policy-making process and had already set up a "bespoke Challenge Board" and regular listening sessions with employees to hear concerns in this policy area.
They wrote that officials were entitled to their personal views, but added it "might be helpful" to "remind" them of mechanisms available to those uncomfortable with policy.
It went on to list a series of ways staff could raise issues, before adding that resignation was an "ultimate recourse" and "honourable course" for those with profound disagreements over government policy.
"[T]he bargain at the heart of the British Civil Service is that we sign up to deliver the policies of the Government of the day wholeheartedly, within the limits imposed by the law and the Civil Service Code," it said.
A former official who saw the correspondence described the response as "obfuscation".
"This… simply provides the government with supposed 'plausible deniability' for enabling breaches of international law," said the former official who also spoke on condition of anonymity.
They said that the FCDO and broader civil service seemed unable to learn the lessons of the past, referring to the 2016 Chilcot Report recommendations following the inquiry into the Iraq war.
Chilcot criticised the emergence of an "ingrained belief" within senior levels of the UK policy community over the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. His recommendations led to civil service reforms designed to challenge "groupthink" and empowering officials to speak out about policy concerns.
The UK government's position is that Israel is "at risk" of breaching humanitarian law. Israel has previously said it operates according to international law. Palestinian rights groups have rejected this, taking evidence to several legal cases brought internationally.
In September, Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the suspension of around 30 arms export licenses to Israel, out of a total of about 350, citing a "clear risk" they might be used to commit or facilitate a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
It came weeks before the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant as well as the military commander of Hamas.
Israel's government has consistently rejected allegations it has committed war crimes in Gaza, calling the ICC's decision "antisemitic", while the US Department of State last week announced sanctions against four ICC judges for "transgressions against the United States and Israel".
In a statement, the FCDO said the job of civil servants was to deliver on government policies and provide professional, impartial advice as set out in the Civil Service Code.
"There are systems in place which allow them to raise concerns if they have them," said the spokesperson. They added: "Since day one, this government has rigorously applied international law in relation to the war in Gaza. One of our first acts in government was to suspend export licences that could be used by the Israeli Defence Forces in Gaza…
"We have suspended direct exports of F-35 parts for use by Israel, and we categorically do not export any bombs or ammunition which could be used in Gaza," added the spokesperson.
On 19 May the UK issued a joint statement with France and Canada threatening "concrete actions" against Israel if it did not stop its renewed military offensive and lift aid restrictions.

"How dare you assume we would quit due to our convictions!"

Maybe so - it's a fair observation, and I'd be the first to say Nigel isn't perfect, but on all probability and possibility he will at some point (maybe sooner than we know, who knows) replace Starmer.

If he then flounces or lets us down, then yes I can see society moving even further Right because we cannot go any further Left.

Thanks anyway, and you seem like a decent guy/girl as well.

Lineker's Antisemitism bites him on the arse, as he's banned from the Brian Glanville Memorial Service:

'Glanville said that his father, who was Jewish, would not have wanted Lineker to speak at his memorial service and his father saw Israel as a safe haven for Jews.

“He saw Israel, after all the utter horror, like so many Jews, as a country that was Jewish and where Jews could thrive as Jews and be safe,” he told The Sunday Times.'

It's in mine, but it's not that unreasonable of me really, nobody saw the lettucepocalypse coming either did they? All it takes is one big fuck up.
I am the tenth dentist on this one, just you wait.
In Wales, we had a similar thing - The Gherkin Gething.

The gherkin is still doing fine.

The Civil Service has a pretty thorough code of conduct which essentially says "don't sperg out about the government because you're working with them" and yet anyone who has ever spoken to the average Civil Servant knows that that's not the case.

It's why a Reform based Doge thing might actually work because if you get a bunch of autistic white guys who know how to type and follow orders you'd completely mog every single sector of the Civil Service.

Quite literally every business has "don't be a fucking retard on the internet about your employer" rule.

When I was doing call centre work a decade or so ago in the first month of someone being in the business they got hauled in to be screamed at for saying something stupid online about the company. They took it down and proceeded to be a fairly productive employee from then onwards with that boundary set.

The twits in the Civil Service are the only things worse than teachers in terms of how many of them decide they should be able to shriek in a banshee-like manner that would see them fired from any other job and then claim they should not be punished for that.

I refuse to say AI should replace them but that's because the people in charge of setting up the automation are worse versions of that quality of human.
