A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Oi!
I feel the same way about London.
Edinburgh’s not bad, it has some cultural peculiarities but there’s some lovely little villages around it and you’re close to nicer emptier countryside than down south ( not that you don’t have pretty countryside, what’s left of it, more that you’re overrun…) it turns to hell during festival time and our government is even worse than the English one (but not as bad as the Welsh) but overall, if you like drizzle and bitterness its alright.
I used to very much enjoy buying a large fizzy juice from maccies in St Andrews square, ever so slightly dislodging the lid and walking along Princes Street.

It would always be no more than ten minutes before some yank or nip tourist got the lot down their back because they would stop at a dead halt right in front of me.

Those were fun times.

Why are they still going on about this? What makes this case special compared to the many other children going missing?

the whole freakout in the 2000s over paedos appears to have been the government approved way of expressing the grooming and rape gang frustration. But the rape gangs are politically protected so nothing can be done.

Manchester airport is actually decently in Manchester so they can fly in get some pics and then fly out. Wouldn't be surprised if the factory or whatever they visited is right by the airport too.
It's in Rochdale. Opposite side of the city, but near the M62. She will have had a a limo and police escort, so she wouldn't have had any problems with the perpetual queues around Trafford or the M62 interchange.

Is it supposed to be Pride Month in the UK as well or do we have different dates for it than the Burgers? I ask because I've seen nothing for it I think. And Marks and Spencer's last year had signs on all their doors and were donating part of profits to LGBTQ stuff I seem to recall. Went past same one that last year had all the Pride stuff this morning, and their doors are unadorned.

Here it's in June but some cities do stuff going into July and even August for whatever reason. Though this year I think everyone knows that "faggot fatigue" has really been in full force as of late so they've mostly elected to not do it or keep it at a minimum.

I for one are having Muslim fatigue but they don't seem to be slowing down with all their shit.

I recall Asda's website during Covid being gay as fuck. Just checked, no gay.

I think the gay shit might not be happening.

Lib Dems think it is.
Today marks the beginning of Pride Month - an important opportunity to celebrate and stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities in the UK and across the world.

I know that for many, Pride will feel different this year. It hasn’t been an easy time for many LGBTQ+ people lately, to put it mildly. And I understand why it may feel like there is little to celebrate right now.

It’s clear the fight for LGBTQ+ equality must go on - and I’m determined that Liberal Democrats remain at the forefront of that fight. That includes pushing the Government to ensure the recent Supreme Court ruling doesn’t lead to a roll back of trans rights.

Of course, Liberal Democrats have long played an important role in pushing for LGBTQ+ equality. Like being the first political party to openly oppose the abhorrent Section 28 legislation, back in the ‘80s. And our instrumental role in getting the Same Sex Marriage Act passed in 2013.

More recently, I’m proud of the incredible work our Equalities Spokesperson, Christine Jardine, has done alongside LGBT+ Liberal Democrats to reaffirm our party’s commitment to LGBTQ+ rights at our Spring Conference. Together, they set out a clear plan of how we can push for LGBTQ+ equality - from addressing discrimination wherever it occurs, to improving access to healthcare and protecting LGBTQ+ rights abroad.
But the work doesn’t stop there. Now, we must put these policies into action and keep doing everything we can to push for the positive change that the LGBTQ+ community deserves.

Because for years, the Conservatives targeted vulnerable LGBTQ+ people - and the trans community in particular - with their divisive culture wars. And I know that many people feel deeply let down by the Labour Government’s track record so far when it comes to standing up for LGBTQ+ rights.

Now more than ever, the Liberal Democrats must stand with the LGBTQ+ community. I want to make clear that our party will keep pushing to ensure that everyone’s fundamental rights are protected, no matter your orientation or identity.

So we will keep fighting - until we can finally build a society where everyone is free to be who they are. And that will certainly be something to celebrate.

London has their Pride parade in July and think most other places do similarish times.

Pride has been cancelled because the pakis that run the country have said "not allowed. Absolutely haram"

Some horrifying news that I don't remember from last year:

Hainault murder accused wanted to kill, court told

It is alleged the first attack happened at about 06:15 when Mr Monzo drove his grey Ford Transit van at speed into pedestrian Donato Iwule who was "catapulted" into a nearby garden.

Mr Monzo then got out of the van and hit Mr Iwule in the face with a sword, the court heard.
Mr Monzo must have seen Daniel and "moved quickly like a predator" behind him, Mr Little said.

"He lifted the sword above his head and then swung it downwards towards Daniel's head and neck area," he said.

"His life was snuffed out in an instant."
One officer, PC Yasmin Mechen-Whitfield, chased the defendant through a series of alleyways through residential properties, the court heard.

She was hit three times with the sword, which had a 60cm (24in) blade, sustaining "significant injuries" that could have "easily" killed her, the court heard.
Mr Monzo then broke into the home of a couple before going into their bedroom where they were asleep with their four-year-old daughter, the jury was told.

The prosecutor said: "Their bedroom door suddenly opened and the defendant entered their bedroom holding what they described as a machete in his hand but was of course the same sword.

"He shouted out towards them 'Do you believe in god?'

"What happened must have been truly horrifying and confusing," Mr Little said.

Mr Monzo attacked the male resident with the sword, only stopping when the couple's daughter started crying, the jury heard.
Mr Monzo then struck another police officer, Insp Moloy Campbell, with the sword before attempting to flee, the prosecutor said.

He added that Mr Monzo then climbed on top a garage before he was eventually disarmed and arrested.
When police arrested Mr Monzo and asked if he understood, he replied: "Allah, Allah will unite us all" and "God, God, will reunite us all," the court heard.

The interesting part for me, apart from this being a multicultural terrorist attack that has been kept quiet, is that the bbc use lower-case g god when this nutter asked if they believed in god, yet used capital G God when referring to Allah.

Front page of Tesco:

Asda not doing it yet (though that might be down to their IT being shite, like everything else about em these days). Same with Morrisons and Aldi, both of which would normally be flying the "progress" pride flag (the very worst niggerfaggot flag) by now.

Speaking of flags, neighbour's still got his union flag up. I think I might go and salute it.

My missus was in a lot of pain during childbirth (baby's spine was apparently rubbing against her spine, which sounds fucking painful to me). After three hours of almost constant screaming, they finally gave her one aspirin, served on a paper plate. Absolute joke.

Eta: She had preeclampsia too, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
After my emergency section, when I finally got out of ICU and down to the ward, the midwives were only willing to give me two paracetamol.

You've just about fucking killed me, I can't move in the bed unaided let alone sit up, I'm weeing in a bloody cardboard pan thing because I can't move to a fucking toilet and you bitches have taken out my fucking catheter, there's fucking tubes and IVs with blood and iron and random fluids hanging out everywhere, two fucking paracetamol. I didn't need two fucking paracetamol, I needed interred in a fucking Dreadnought chassis.

I Karened until they brought me an actual doctor. No fucking regrets. You have to advocate for yourself. I mean a section as Otterly points out is a major fucking open abdominal surgery. It is not a two paracetamol or one aspirin (Christ on a bicycle) job.

Also, back labour is an absolute fucking bitch, your missus is a warrior, I hope she gets a good mothers' day.

I would also in this list of complaints about UK maternity care like to add, the practice of bringing lassies with sections right out of recovery from the operating theatre and then leaving the baby alone with them in a plastic bucket away from the bed is fucking barbarous. You get any other sort of surgery and start getting up and walking around straight away and the nurses read you the riot act and tell you to lie the fuck down and be quiet for a bit. Yes, you need to mobilise, DVTs, I get that. They don't need to leave you bleeding through your dressings as the sole source of care and comfort 24 hours a day for a baby you literally can't reach without getting out of the bed and walking around. Jesus. Even pull the fucking bucket up to the bedside. I tore my stitches trying to get to baby before they woke up every other baby on the ward. That did not need to happen. You just feel so fucking uncared for at a time when honestly you're a bit beat up physically, emotionally, all that shit. This is a fucking maternity unit. The state of birthing women is not news there. They could give out some fucking cups of tea here and there.

And honestly, rooming-in is a brutal practice if you've had a long labour and a section, because your body needs a fucking sleep. Even a couple of hours kip. I know in American hospitals they have nursery units or whatever where SOMEONE will take the bairn for a couple of hours so you can have a wash or a very necessary nap or a shit in peace. Not having them here is just... look, it's just brutal and fucking unnecessary.

You're sore and a bit emosh and very hormones right before and after you give birth. A bit of fucking kindness would make the whole experience a lot more pleasant.

Just shoddy reporting, copy/paste, but yes, the capitalization of Allah probably influenced the capitalization of God in the following sentence.

none should have been capitalized, to show maximum disrespect to allah and to god (who are one and the same, and who can suck my dick)
