A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Eurovision is dead to me since 2014, when the truly brilliant entry from The Netherlands, The Calm After The Storm by the Common Linnets lost to a song by a faggot in a dress.

I can't recall if it was either Wogan or Norton presenting but whoever it was had nothing mean to say about the Dutch song and rightly so because it's beautiful. A melancholy ballad about the ending of a relationship. Had me in fucking bits listening to it.

That was when a Troon fucking won. Conchita Wurst. That was right before troonery became a mainstream thing. Yeah, I was pissed too. I wanted the Netherlands to win as well as a burgerland outsider viewer - she sang beautifully. It's the kinda shit I think of when I think of the Dutch.

Also that troon was from Austria as well. Austria winning with a gay eunuch twink (who admittedly sings really well) is almost fitting, especially when they won against Israel lmao, but again, at least from what I can tell the twink singer doesn't do idpol shit from what little I read up about him.

On the plus side Labour rebellions are pretty rare, but the leader and cabinet tend to be ousted. I think a lot of these MPs actually wanted to make a difference but were overshadowed by a local minority of ideologues, and have now seen what is behind the curtain. Labour have never been a party of independent thought.

That's her Cabinet Role gone then, if Starmer gets his way.

Starmer's also under pressure from 550 MP's to proscribe Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation.

I'll spoil the debate for you. Kier will blame the Tories for everything while ignoring the fact that mass immigration started decades ago and his own party has been just as much of a champion of it as the Tories. He'll dodge any accusation that his new found anti-immigration stance is a reaction the Reform's massive surge. Kier has always been anti-immigration in much the same way as Oceania has always been a war. If he's smart he'll try and spin it as the pro-union stance that Labour should've have had from day one. He'll also ignore his piss poor handling of the riots or that the plebs where and still are prosecuted for the same "believes" he now has.

Nigel by comparison is a much better speaker in the sense that he can talk like a normal fucking person. His views on mass-immigration are just factually correct and there's no way around that. There's two problems with both Nigel and Reform. First, the party doesn't really have a good platform outside of being right about immigration. Second, Reform's solution is nowhere near radical enough. Massively limiting would've fixed the problem 20-30 years ago but now we need mass deportations and everyone knows it even if they won't admit to it.

Kier has the presence of a piss wet towel and will come off like the faggot he is, only with added hypocrisy. Nigel is much more likable and doesn't have the history of noncery that Kier and Labour has (as far as I know anyway). The debate will be a missive SNAFU for Labour. It won't win any Reformers over because it stinks of desperation and Reform isn't going to lose by banging the anti-immigration drum. The Labour voters who are Shocked and Disappointed™ at the new found anti-immigration stance or the austerity programmes aren't going to vote Reform, they just won't Labour.
