A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I respect that, but you're assuming I give a fuck about these people, I don't. I, like many, learned the hard way to not help people who don't want to be helped, or those who enjoy being helped at the detriment to the helper.
Without any anger, or hate, I genuinely don't give a fuck about them, nor the middle-class or upper-class. I don't give a fuck about anyone but me - which took a long, long time to realise that's the best way in life, because nobody gives a fuck about anyone but themselves ultimately.

Let the chavs have their shitty corner of the world. I would nuke it, given the choice, but until I get the choice, I couldn't give a shit if the people there live, die, thrive or suffer. They're bacteria best avoided. And it isn't just the poor. Those who have opportunity and waste it are useless niggers as well.
I know I am wasting my time. But I promised her mammy before she died, and her mammy was kind to me when mine wasn't. And I don't break promises. But it is a waste of time. I know she should want better for her weans, I want better for her weans, but if all I accomplish is to make sure they are generally clean and fed and not evicted and have clothes than fit them and she takes them to the dentist, well, it's something. Some debts you can't really pay off. Her weans are better cared for than we were, I do what I can and I hope for the best. I don't want them to run with a gang, that's what frightens me. I get angry that she doesn't try harder. I know why she doesn't but it still makes me angry when I have to take them to the the doctor and brush out their nits and fight with the school about their attendance, because she should do that shit but she's not going to. Because this is normal for weans around her. But just because it's normal doesn't make it alright.

I talk a good game about not giving a fuck about anyone else, but I was allowed to spend far, far too much time at the chapel and the chapel house as a wean, and I can't turn a blind eye, truthfully. The world is a monstrous unfair place, and the more vulnerable you are, the worse unfair it is. I can't fix that, no matter what I say or who I vote for. I wish I could. But I can do what I can within the reach of my arm.

As a reformed prole I have to brush shoulders with milder class arseholes who think they are working class heroes and they make my skin crawl. The also really don't like speaking to me as they know I can see through there act.
There are few things that grip my shit more than Gary the soft-handed computer toucher, whose kids go to a fee-paying school, trying to act like the voice of the working man because someone, somewhere in his family tree once worked with their hands (e.g. being the son of a toolmaker, to pluck a completely random example out of the air).

The sort of cunt who listens to Sleaford Mods in his 530d.

The sort of cunt who listens to Sleaford Mods
why the fuck did you make me realise they are a thing? I'm having a quiet Friday morning with my feet up in the garden after a lovely bacon and egg sarnie and I learn about some 2 middle age guys, one hipster and one Vinnie Jones impersonator pretending to be the streets.

This is pinko-tier softness; "people" who do not work should not eat.
Some should. If you’ve worked all your life and get struck down with injury or illness we should look after people. If you’re a third generation workshy chav, you get nothing. But there has to be a safety net. And there has to be social mobility. I’ve seen people I know who earned low wages, worked hard and had something bad happen and they’ve been just over the threshold for any help, and they’ve almost gone under before they got another job . That shouldn’t happen.
Then, then I knew I was poor. I had more material comfort than I'd ever had before, but for the first time I wasn't the same as everyone else. Now that made me angry.
I saw this first at university. It’s not like I didn’t know the rich existed. I didn’t appreciate how much below ‘normal middle class’ I was because we were genteel poor with a house full of (second hand) books and nicely spoken. But to suddenly be put into this world where everyone else around you is at worst an upper middle class grammar kid and at the highest actual landowning aristocracy (oddly, the nicest of the lot of them) was such a mindfuck for just-18 year old me. I really struggled with it. Everything i’d worked for they took for granted. I’d like to say I coped well with it but I didn’t, and I was pretty bitter and didn’t know how to work with it. Other than by outperforming of them. I thought that would work.
Except that meant nothing either, because when you’ve got a literal estate and a house the size of chatsworth, or a trust fund, or your dad is CEO, you’re just at uni for the larks or to find a nice husband.
I think I still have a chip on the shoulder about it, but I can’t get behind killing the poor, because I was one, and I’m not that far from being one again if disaster struck. We should care for our own. That does not mean a free ride.

A friend of mine used to clean hotels and hostels, namely the ones used by international students which most were the Chinese students and he would tell me that when they left that they would just leave all their expensive stuff they bought here in England and not bother taking any of it back. He would tell me stories of going into these places and they would be a utter tip, full of top end PC's, designer goods and the like, some of it still in the boxes and never opened.

It's not big secret that most of these kids were the kids of party officials or entrepreneurs but the sheer amount of money they must have had access to and the utter disregard they had for it was shocking. The only up side was these cleaners were and still do pocket and resell this stuff that their pulling out of these places and make quite a lot of money on the side.

I can't believe we have people in this thread treating the council estate class as subhuman undeserving of any empathy or sympathy while also complaining that there is no uprising against the shit show that is running and ruining the country.

Who do you think would be the backbone of the uprising? the sneering class who looks down on anyone not them? or the estate class with nothing to lose? fuck your no better than the cunts ruining the country just another side of the same twisted coin.

Who do you think would be the backbone of the uprising?
Going by the reaction to Southport, it’ll be Norf FC who save us.
I think how you view this if you’ve experienced it is coloured by how you experienced it. I grew up poor, but we were respectable and well raised. My parents did ok, they’d grown in up real poverty, not 1970s poverty. They had no heating past a range in the kitchen, they had rationing. One grandparent grew up in a slum in conditions that would make dickens blush. They ended up with a small house in the burbs, and they were determined their kids would do better again. We’ve done a mix, but nobody’s rich, and I think we are all realising that there but for the grace of God go I.
There has to be social mobility, there has to be a safety net and we have to look after our own. They may be scum but they’re OUR scum. We have to have a route for kids to work and make something of themselves. I feel that’s a lot less open now than it was. I didn’t pay tuition fees - would I have gone to uni if j knew I’d start out tens of thousands in debt? No.
I don’t really have an issue with the idea of the deserving poor. Some people fall on hard times and we shouldn’t let them go under. Some just can’t work and we need to kind of park them somewhere,
I’ve less sympathy for people around me I see on benefits having come into the country and not contributed. They are not our scum, and we owe them nothing.

I have a love hate relationship with council estates and it would be rather hypocritical of me to attack them as I am one of them. My hatred for those on council estates is reserved for those who are lazy or those who are out right scamming the systen.

Sure, the problem is though we have a large group of people who treat everyone on an estate as a lazy benefits scammer undeserving of food one person said.

A mate of mine lives on an estate he used to work construction, he fell off some scaffolding and broke his back and now he's disabled from the waist down, he can't work so he's on benefits, according to some fuck wits in this very thread he isn't even human anymore. I hate HATE people like this because they have no sense of loyalty, decency or honour. The very worst people.

If you've actually worked and done the whole "actually paid NI" thing, then there's no argument against not being taken care of because that's what safety nets are for; catching people who fall off for whatever reason. The "all poors must die" is another strawman inflicted on our collective vision, I don't think anyone would disagree with humanely end of life caring the Vicky Pollards though would they? Because that's who I mean when say chavs, not the actual people. There's a solid divide between the two even in the shittiest of shitholes, you can tell just by seeing who cuts the grass.

I think this shows that the biggest thing holding back the UK from any meaningful progress is that classism still trumps all other -isms. You can have people even in this thread but more often on Reddit gnashing their teeth over the millions spent on migrant hotels and migrants in general then turn around and in the same breath lump in everyone who lived on or grew up on a council estate. Social mobility doesn't seem to really exist in the UK since you'll always be associated with where you grew up/your background no matter how much success you find in life. You succeed despite growing up on a council estate or fail because of it.

I won't pretend I know what council estate life is like since I grew up with more fortunate odds but like Otterly says, it'll be Norf FC who are more likely to save us. I don't really begrudge anyone claiming benefits or needing help or whatever if they are white and from the UK, my only concern in that area is the millions wasted on hotels and benefits for non whites. After all, they are our working class low life benefit scroungers.

I can't believe we have people in this thread treating the council estate class as subhuman undeserving of any empathy or sympathy while also complaining that there is no uprising against the shit show that is running and ruining the country.
The ones who don't want help and just want to sponge off of the system are not worth empathy or sympathy. In the same way the foreigners who flood over here to sponge off of the system are not worth empathy or sympathy. Both cause massive societal problems in this country and both should be removed with extreme prejudice.

However, those who want to do better for themselves and their families, should be given every opportunity, chance and benefit available to do so. There are wasters in every walk of life and they hate those who want to better themselves. Those are the ones I hate.

The various administrations of recent decades have absolutely given up on social progress, on displaying social progress as something to strive for, and as a result no one currently in the People's Republic of Ned sees any reason to leave.
The people that are so cavalier they don't care at all that everyone despises them are somehow the fault of the government not giving them aspirations? Why would they care about what the pedophiles in charge think?
I think this shows that the biggest thing holding back the UK from any meaningful progress is that classism still trumps all other -isms.
That's not UK-specific, it's just the UK has done a good enough job on integrating their migrants (until the 90's, then it all went to shit) that the class lines don't neatly fall on racial lines like in other countries. It's ALWAYS a class issue, but it's disguised as racism in America because it's a lot easier to see someone's skin color than their upbringing.

I grew up on a council estate until I was like 17, a lot of people there are lazy good for nothing cunts; but a lot also weren't. The problem is that since they're both poor they all dress the same, so it's easy for cunts that grew up in nice neighbourhoods to lump them together.
You can spot the cunts a mile off. The decent people who are there through lack of resources or lack of luck should be taken care off more than the lazy, wasting scroungers.

The money we give illegals and migrant nogs should be going to upskilling, helping and assisting people who want to do more.

If someone can work, and is fully able-bodied, they should be put to work, whether they like it or not. Those born with disabilities, or who have become disabled due to disease or accident, should be able to live a middle-class life with enough money to life care-free and with luxuries, not pushed into a shit hole to suffer more.

A rant and a bit of a derail, but I'm really sick of how much sway the Netflix show "adolescence" continues to have. They're trying the whole photoID and "AI" face scan tech to police the internet, and there are now safe masculinity classes in schools. All in order to stop the events of a fictional show from happening again. All the while activist groups complain that it isn't going far enough. Did you not see how scared the woman was in the show!

It seems none of political parties can tell fiction from reality. The activists also don't say what they'd like the government to do. "This doesn't go far enough" and "the government need to do more" is vague.

I'd make a joke about them wanting Andrew Tate killed, but isn't he in prison atm?

Get a job

Get a job
One minute this thread is popping off about immigrants taking all the jobs and the next it's whining that the dole class don't have a job. You can't get a job if there are none because they've all been taken by illegals and the only jobs left are ones that pay so little you can make more money picking up dropped coins on the street.
