A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I think we should just make @Otterly Prime Minister and have @teriyakiburns as a sort of crazed Malcolm Tucker.
Can I be Glenn? Just quietly working away in the background...

and eventually erupting in despair?

What if I get crazed with power and execute the Bally lot of them, Queenie style?
I think that would be called Ottercracy.

You have my sword.
And my axe memes.

I feel like it would be better if you gave the monarchy back its powers, and then installed @Otterly as Queen. No messing about in the houses of parliament, no dealing with elections, just good sensible dictatorial country-loving rule.

I tried to get one of those slop generators to make a nice Queenly portrait of an otter but they all sucked, so I gave up.

PMQs starting shortly. I wonder how Badenoch will cock up grilling Starmer over his ridiculae today. We've got Reeves hoping for a US trade deal to rescue her spending plans, half the front bench invisible, corruption scandals, the gender shit, and god knows what else.

Which is a very nicer party over in Islamistan, and I'm happy for them. I simply think it would be nice if America could have their version for America, England could have their version for England, and Australia- who am I kidding, down under is a lost cause.

I heard England is the land of infinite benefits for migrants so for laughs I was looking up what we could mooch while we're here if I was a brown skinned piece of shit that had no self respect, and I see that child tax credits went away on the 5th of this month. I'm not familiar with what they were but they sound like the usual thing countries do where they pay you to have children. You know, future taxpayers and all that. What was it? Did you lads kick up a fuss when it was being axed? Is this more ways to axe the middle class?
It was rolled over into something called universal credit which an amalgamation of several different kinds of state benefits inc unemployment, disability etc.
Universal credit was supposed replace all state benefits eventually but the rollout was such a shit show that it was scrapped. You'd find some regions that have universal credit while others still have the separated state income.

You certainly can. I love the budget otter (saving to my folder for future avatars…)
It’s an interesting thought experiment isn’t it? Could you sort this out?
I recall Robert Anton Wilson once wrote that if Jesus was made president but wasn't allowed to change anything about how the system worked, he would be no different than any other ruler. The system constrains action. And in a recent interview Liz Truss said that there are a list of laws that need to be repealed before a Prime Minister actually has the power to fix things. She said that if the elected representative of the people doesn't have the power to remove those actually running things (the Civil Servants) then you're not living in a democracy. And that she didn't have that power as PM.

I think I could certainly make improvements - but a large part of that would be through exposing information to the public to generate the support and guidance needed to change things, rather than immediately change things. They'd probably remove me faster than a lettuce could go off, if I tried, though.

We also seem to be maybe shifting more towards American lobbying model than before as well which is concerning. There's recently formed a new US-style PAC funding Reform (one reason I have big reservations about Reform).

What would you need to do to sort this out?
Who would you need to neutralise?
In respect to my previous above, I'd say need to refresh the laws on lobbying and funding, publish clearer information, curtail the independence of the civil service and bring in an actual constitution allowing American-style free speech and some right of self-defence. I'd also give serious thought to a national bank without excluding private banking. This would be a means of ensuring financial services could be made a citizen's right without compelled service on the private banks.

I would also consider overhauling education to make adult education more available and normalised. Someone is more settled in their twenties or thirties and wants to get qualifications? Give them an easier path to that.

I'd also come down like a tonne of bricks on any foreign involvement in British politics. Financial, NGO, whatever. A crime not to declare yourself as a foreign actor and restrictions on what they can and cannot do.

I feel like it would be better if you gave the monarchy back its powers, and then installed @Otterly as Queen. No messing about in the houses of parliament, no dealing with elections, just good sensible dictatorial country-loving rule.
The issue is one of succession. We begin with Regina Lutrina and all is well. But a few generations later you have some weasel or other mustelid on the throne and nothing you can do about it. And clams would probably be reserved for royalty too.

Hence the ‘who would you have to neutralise’ part of the question.
I wonder, genuinely, what would be needed to fix things. What blocks need to be removed, i bet many, and powerful and I bet some of those blocks are ones a really malign actor would love removed so now you’ve got to get someone in charge who will just suspend things for a while and then give the power back. That’s one hell of an ask isn’t it?

Who was it that said there are two types of politicians - the signpost (conviction) and the weather vane (spineless)?

I cant even call Starmer a weather vane, he's more like a paper bag.
He’s a fence post topper. He’s sat on the fence so long it’s got jammed up his arse. Maybe his pal lord Ali can help him remove it?

Again, I might have misunderstood. Universal credit appears to be for poors only, while I thought that child tax credits were given to anyone with children as sort of an incentive to breed.

Part of my trust in Otterly as Queen is trust in her as a mother, capable of raising good heirs.
And clams would probably be reserved for royalty too.
She deserves them. Also they're gross and I don't want to eat them in the first place.
Here you go... Any good? :)
We'll have to let her Highness decide.

He was the one that put it there in the first place.

It's really clear that's true, as helpfully shown by the Supreme Court ruling and that the suggestion from government so far is that it won't be till summer that a plan may be available to comply for most public bodies.

Most of the rules around that are around 15 years old or less. The gender identity stuff barely had chance to properly get rooted and it's still probably going to be years before anything resembling definitive steps will be taken. While I don't like everything Trump is doing I can understand the logic in cutting things down to the ground to fix them and believe the same needs to be done here.

child tax credits were given to anyone with children as sort of an incentive to breed.
The old policy documents are still kicking around. CTC and Working Families Tax Credit were introduced by Gordon Brown not as an incentive to breed, but as an incentive for women who otherwise wouldn't work outside the home to put their kids in childcare, start working outside the home, and therefore start contributing to the tax base and also drive up consumer spending. That was why there was a minimum-hours-per-week threshold you had to meet to claim it. I want to say it was 16 hours a week for a long time. The main long term effects were to rocket house prices, since people now had two salaries to borrow on instead of one, and also to substantially expand the consumer credit burden on the UK population, since you can get credit even with 16 hours a week wages that you can't get at all with no job.

I hate the worship of money almost as much as I hate communists/homos/people who come into the shop in onesies.
Fucking everything has to be about muh economy, or you're stupid, tis heresy otherwise.

If Farage gets in power, any chance of immigrants getting booted out the country will be zero. He will fuck this country, the left will blame the right, even though farage is a faggot, and that's it. The last crash and grab will be on.
