A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They could do this at Wethersfield in Essex. Illegals are housed in a former USAF airbase there. Its fully fenced off with one entrance and exit gate.

But no, the shitskins there are allowed to wander around the locality, and hanging around the village, or trying to get into villagers gardens. There is even a fleet of minibuses to take them into the nearest town (Braintree) and even day trips out to Colchester.

Just shut them in. Its a big site with plenty of room to move around. There is (or at least were) facilities there like a few shops. Open one of them, and there is no need for any of them to leave until their (bogus?) asylum claims are heard and they are deported.
 
@Otterly : I've an ex who had cereberal palsy. No communication or cognitive issues, but a gammy walk. Poork bastard was,for first three years of school, stuck in a potato patch with literal retards, both physically incapacitated, and emotionally damaged.

i can't say that's especially fair, and it did cause him a couple of issues, however, he finished his A Levels at 19, went to Uni at 21, after some time working, and graduated with his BsC at 25, then did an MSc which is good gooing all things considered.

Anecdote from my Mum who was a teacher: They had a member of the local social services observing outside a local newsagents near the school in the morning, to catch out parents buying cans off Monster for wee Brayden and Nevaeah so they would act up in school and get the much-coveted statement for ADHD.

Too many of these kids issues come down to serious, underlying societal issues, which at their root cause are enabled by a poverty of aspiration and sheer greed for more Gobs on the part of the parent (I'm not going to use the plural, parents, because, let's be fucking realistic here, eh?).

@Amin Yasister TBH, if I had to flee to another country for my own safety, I would welcome what you describe. Give me a chance to acclimate, learn the language, and know I am safe, warm, housed and looked after while my application is taken care of.

It's almost like they're not actually fleeing anything and are freeloading vermin (spoiler, of course they are).

This is how mainstreaming is supposed to work, but the rub is that there's no money for the amount of classroom assistants, let alone money for the amount of extra classrooms, needed to deliver it. So the effect is that the potato requires additional help from the class teacher. But the pressure on class sizes is such that the teacher already does not have enough time to help kids who are on target quite enough, they do not have the time to be explaining everything twice or more to the potato. This means all teaching in the class has to stop whilst the potato gets somehow brought up to speed, or more correctly an effort is made to do so. Your kids are comparatively fortunate and in a good school if there's only one or two disruptive spazzies in their classes. (Of course this is not actually lucky, the actual number should be zero so they can learn uninterrupted, this is completely unfair on kids like yours) The average number of ASN kids in a Scottish mainstream class now is one in three. One in fucking three. How the fuck is that mainstream education when a full third of you sitting there are speds. How is a teacher supposed to control ten or eleven speds in a group with 20 normal kids, even in actual ASN education a group of ten or eleven at a time are pushing it. If even only eight of those kids are statemented for one-to-one classroom help, who the fuck is paying for eight classroom assistants per class. An entire primary school in Scotland will be sharing somewhere between one and four, tops. The reality is the cost is ruinous even if you could get people trained up for the jobs. The speds were herded together into the sped schools because the cost of actually controlling them in mainstream is impossible, and the ones with "neurodivergence" are impossibly disruptive in mainstream. You only need one fanny with ADHD, the loud kind of tism, or the magical 'dual diagnosis' to make it impossible for a teacher to actually teach the other thirty kids in the class because they are spazzing out all over the place. Plus the increasing reports of violence in schools aren't a teacher psyop, they are actually happening and it's always some little cunt with ASN responsible. Kids can't possibly be expected to learn when someone is having a fucking electric hedgehog meltdown twice a day next to them. You know all of this of course but I do believe that most people do not understand why education has fallen off a bloody cliff in the last 20 years and the answer is speds fucking everything up for normal people.
 
You’ve even got pikeys on Tik Tok claiming that their kids are autistic and ADHD now. Thats when you know it’s got out of hand. Nothing to do with their absolutely feral upbringing, of course. They probably get more bennys for it aswell. Which is outrageous considering, at least in my area the council spends a fortune cleaning up after all the fly tipping they do. They also commit half the robberies.

I remember the ⅓ pint glass bottles of milk at school being frozen solid in winter, and having to be thawed out in front of the open fire in the classrooms (yes, we had them in my primary school). In the summer it was warm and undrinkable.

Wish it was taken away when I was at school

We still had apple and milk time when I was at primary school. It was shit, and put me right off drinking milk
 
Reeves says the welfare changes will save £4.8bn.

She says there have been “final adjustments” since the announcement last week.

Referring to these changes, she says:

The universal credit standard allowance will increase from £92 per week in 25/26 to £106 pounds a week by 29/30 while the universal credit health elements will be cut to the new claimants by around 50% and then frozen.

Used to have this horrible shit processed milk at primary that came in cartons with straws.
Had a great day when I discovered that you could stomp them though. Didn't get found out either.
Was eventually replaced with drinkable milk in standard plastic bottles.

If this was when you were in primary school then this policy started under Labour.

They also closed more mines than Thatcher as well.

Plenty of reasons to hate that woman that are factually and historically correct to boot.
 
Follow a lot of Munchies, just found out there’s 2 groups organising protests about the PIP cuts across the country. Disabledpeopleagainstcuts and cripsagainstcuts. Doubt many will attend, but interesting to keep watch on what happens. Especially since the types attending are usually the Labour lover types. Starmer has it in him to fuck it up further by sending riot police in.
