A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I like how the article skirts around the obvious solution: stop taking in browns. It's being framed as a sort of natural phenomenon, which I find extremely dishonest.

The knock on effects are huge - hotels are there because people need somewhere to stay on business, or holiday. When you take entire hotels out of business, entire towns’ hotel stock in some cases, you destroy all the businesses that rely on those travellers who were previously there for business, holidays, weekend stays, weddings etc. All the tourism and catering and little shops - all gone.

I know a town like that personally. In Ireland and quite touristy (and rightly so - lovely town) and an entire large hotel was taken over long-term with refugees. Drove past it and there was a huge knot of them outside it. Don't know what that did to the tourist trade there.

I also support freeing the outside boys. I have a soft heart just no tolerance to cohabit with any rodents. You're right, it was the colour and the tail that made him look like a domestic terrorist to me. You've also got a better idea of the size. Field mice are absolutely tiny. House mice on the other hand, well tbh having had the privilege of living in infested accommodation for much of my childhood, I honestly don't have anything personally against them but the hygiene issue is completely unacceptable. You can't live with the buggers shitting everywhere. The thing to be really frightened of those is when they all disappear, because that means rats have arrived. One of the worst fucking experiences of the human condition is to have your living quarters invaded by rats. Trying to sleep at night whilst listening for the bastards thumping about and then trying to climb upon the furniture to get out of the way of the Jack Russell and the Yorkie killing the bastards is not a restful way to prepare for school the next day. I unequivocally support living with terriers btw. Thanks for letting me share my adverse childhood experiences

They realise right that the reason private firms take advantage is because there is no cheaper accommodation that is actually fit for the purpise of housing them all right?

And that if you do put them in something that is somehow cheaper everything else gets more expensive.

To say nothing of all the things that shut as @Otterly said because people can no longer come and make use of them.

Build millions of homes on greenbelt land and air drop in 1.5 million immigrants people whilst dismantling local councils into giant mega councils who are less centralised to your area and flip the voting demographics in an area for ever.

They don't care, they only care about the medium term and being in power.

By design to replace whites, doesn't matter if it did and actively still is back firing on them. They will bring in a new client group and pander to it to replace you and bring down wages and rights for the natives. The end goal of all of this is to turn the UK into some where like Dubai or Saudi Arabia with a massive wealth divide and the few last ethnically native people being sat at the top with the remaining natives being swept away into the ethnic sludge of the imported serfs.
 
They are in hotels because there was a collective pants-shitting early-mid 2000s about holding them in secure immigration detention centres, and to be fair, to build the equivalent of say, 12 to 15 new mega jails across the UK would be a significant public undertaking in terms of cost and time.

It should still be done. (Also, at least 12 new mega jails should be built on top of the existing jails we have in ANY case, the prison estate and pressure on prison places is an absolute disaster already unfolding.)

A huge amount of the public disorder and pressure on services and general humptyness over immigrants awaiting processing would be substantially alleviated if they were banged up 24-7 from arrival until refusal and deportation. The rate of immigrants going on the missing list would be substantially lowered. The opportunity to go on the missing list and join existing diaspora communities would be substantially lowered. The pull factors of the UK as a final destination would be lowered.

Fucking get it done. This is a pretty statist nation. 'Build giant jails' is not a vote losing proposition in 2025. It will provide work placements for all the NEETs who are getting chucked off their benefits. Build some massive fucking jails and send them all there.

(In a side note, I saw a truly phenomenal DWP figure from 2024 that I will track down the source for, that EIGHT PERCENT of all kids under 18 in the UK are in receipt of DLA, overwhelmingly for autism and or ADHD, what the absolute fuck, eight percent, that is taking the piss, absolutely this should not be paid for, no tugboat for tards it only encourages them to be useless to keep their entitlement)

It would also help if we scrapped free legal representation for these illegals. Then they can’t appeal on repeat until they get some woke judge who lets them stay for absurd reasons. If your first appeal is denied you should be out. Allowing one appeal is generous in the first place.
 
Allowing one appeal would satisfy all their Convention rights, there's long standing precedent in Strasbourg to that effect. The decision to allow more than one is a straight up political hangover from Y2K.
 
It's free to them. We foot the bill. Nothing free is free, someone is always paying for it. In this case we, the taxpayer, are feeding, clothing and housing these subhuman vermin and then paying for them to fuck about with our legal system and clog it up, too.

Funny how there's no money to sort out the absolute shit show that is dental care in this country but there's tons of cash to pay for blacks and browns to invade our country.

It’s partly because to access any kind of help you need the paperwork. If your kid is behind in any way you’re out of luck in the state sector unless you’ve got a diagnosis and that opens the door to the magical help and benefits. Once you’ve got one you get all the others. ADHD is the trendy one now, autism was before. Of course some kids need the help but for a lot it’s just the only way they get extra class help or the parents get extra benefits
