A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

See these fucking things? They were my FAVOURITE and they barely fucking sold them at the shops by mine. Like I'd go to the shops right and they were usually not there, only on like a rare fucking day and any other place never sold them and now they're gone. FUCKING GONE. WHY. It's so fucking bullshit. @the rat : yeah sort of like Herby corn snack ones. Not seen in years myself but the cheese was always smooth and not very cheesy. Whatever mondolez dishes out slop that was,smelled strongly of chemicals, was grainy,pasty and almost gritty.

I'm absolutely not up duff. It was just rancid slop.

You pull their benefits entitlement and make them the problem of parents who raised these supine miserable little cunts who squeal "there's nooo poooooint" and "whyyyy tryyyy" at 21 the same way they did at 12. That is what will happen to them. There is a painful belief in this country that your crotchlings are only your problem until 16, 17, 18, and then even though you have allowed them to not go to school "because anxiety and bullying" and other total bullshit, somehow magically you will be relieved of responsibility for them at the door of adulthood and will be able to get the fuckwit you raised off your sofa. Life does not work that way. You have the kids you chose to bring up. If you let them sit on their arse moaning and mouldering their entire life, of course they are a fucking unemployable retard. This is your fucking fault. You should be assigned responsibility for that. The solution to this problem is to require parents to house and aliment their children not just up to the age of 16, but the age of 25. No benefits entitlement up to that point, including if the child is themselves a parent. Watch how fucking motivated parents suddenly become to make the little shites go to college and get a job down the McDonalds once they have to pay for the blob they raised.

I have my sympathy for gen z, they really did grow up in one of the worst times for getting a job and buying a house like their parents and their parents parents did. But I can't stand them being lazy and entitled to things that they never earnt. I know boomers who whilst they have had it good, they had to earn it working some of the worst jobs of the day to get what they did. Then on the other end I have some 19 year old where I work try and do the bare minimum, hoping I'll do their job for them whilst their on their phone who will still lecture me on just oh so bad they have it.

If they put the work in and they get screwed by the system then you feel bad for them but if it's some doll dosser who maybe worked in a Tesco once then fuck em.
 
Everyone hates benefits scroungers expecting everyone to pay for their crotch goblins. Or those faking disabilities to get money from the state, that’s why my account even started on here. But Starmer and Labour are the biggest retards on the planet for doing this after they are increasing other areas of expenditure. Billions for Ukraine, Chagos, rapeugees the list goes on and on. Even the BBC had a call out about how Labour are cutting benefits to fund wars.

It’s actually working Starmer intended though, because many people are distracted talking about Becky the chav with her bad back & “useless NHS middle managers” and now they are ignoring the Mohammed in the room.
