A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I bet his Mum is turning in her grave. Whether you were a monarchist or not, the real Queen at least demanded respect for her dedication and length of service.

As for her limp wristed, tree hugging, fop of a son.... He never ceases to disappoint.

Here we have the Head of the Church of England packing dates for Iftar to be given to Muslims observing fasting during Ramadan.

I forgot it's ramadan - imagine celebrating a heretical holiday in the UK. Now we get 40 days of uppity pakis having a meltdown and tardrage because they're hungry.

It's your duty as an Englishmen and a patriot to eat food, preferably something with a strong smell on public transport to test the faith of all Muslims. If they can't handle it as I bite into my 20 piece mc chicken nuggets then I guess their not a good Muslim then?

FTFY. What's harder than ignoring food cravings? Ignoring food cravings of food they can't eat anyway, even though it smells so good. Plus, any pork scent wafting up their nose both cancels their fast and causes them to not get into 72 virgin heaven.

Yeah the way it's portrayed in mainstream media is that it's an absolutely grueling month long food fast. Really it's just that they can't eat during the day.

I know loads of people that have done 24 hour, and longer, fasts purely for non-religious reasons. Ramadan really is the easiest possible type of fast you can do.

I remember when the Queen wouldnt let Philip drink a pint of Guinness during a visit to Ireland, THAT was a bridge too far and now they're literally working for Indians.

A 1pm to 7pm food window is really just cheat mode for dieting. Just drink black coffee till lunch and skip breakfast/TV snacks.
That said I am tempted to deliveroo something tomorrow for lunch and eat it in front of them as they cry into their ebike.

One of the only prem clubs owned fully and operated by a local lad. Tony Bloom (though Jewish) is Brighton born and bred, self made millionaire. A club worthy of respect for that fact alone. Always feels good to stick it to the Saudis running multi billion deficits while Brighton stays profitable year on year.

I've noticed a lot of places put paper seals on everything now, to prove it hasn't been tampered with by the driver. They know what's up.
 
The last few months I have missed Elizabeth a lot. She was a figure of sacrifice as she sacrificed her ambitions and personality to become a true statesman. She adored Churchill for the lessons he taught her about statesmanship and acting as a surrogate for her father. Philip honestly was great he sacrificed so much for Elizabeth because he simply loved her. Reading anecdotes of her and her sharp wit, you could tell why she adored Philip. Plus she loved doggos, my favorite account of hers is of her first Corgi Susan a gift from her father to be her constant. Susan other than Philip was one of the only things Elizabeth had agency with and her horses of course. She could not imagine life without Susan so made sure she always had her descendants to remember her faithful companion who had been with her through some of the most challenging years of her life.

I have met her twice on visits and shook her hand, She was so courteous and respectful, I remember on the first seeing her saying thank you for your sacrifices and she looked directly into my eyes and asked my name. I gave it along with your majesty and she smiled and said "Thank you x my name." The second time and that was on a royal visit and I kid you not she remembered my name after I congratulated her on her wedding anniversary. After that, I have to admit I was very gracious but had a bit of a fascination because she was so private.

See I am really lucky the Just Eat drivers here are all white or Asian.

So the UK media is spinning stories that Russia is near collapse and we will win if we last for y months. This is of course absolute hogwash, there are numerous reports of irregular army amounts. I saw a Ukrainian battalion (200 size) with 30 people. 100's of videos are now surfacing of abductions of Ukrainian men and sometimes women. People who object to being shot all whilst Russia is starting to make significant advances. I am not a Russian shill but war is war and if there are now large advances then it means Ukraine is done.

They are spinning this story to say Trump is bad and we lost because no US money. The truth in the matter is you can chuck trillions at a war but you will never win it because you need troops that can use weapons. Also, Starmer sending air missiles is dumb because this is a ground offensive with mostly surveillance craft.

And also, you need people that can use the missles. We know the recruits can’t use guns well, how are they going to use more complicated stuff?
