A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It is their home countries. Main flights have been to Nigeria and Ghana. https://www.gbnews.com/news/keir-st...-deported-nearly-10000-removed-since-election
Right, I see what you're pointing at now. Labour can't take credit for these deportations, as they were made under policies enacted before they were elected. The majority of them happened before the election as well. There's also an expected slower increase of "legal" immigration due to changes to immigration rules made by the previous government - rules that labour criticised and want to reverse, incidentally.

The fact remains that immigration is generally increasing because the state, whichever tie it is wearing, wants it to increase. Playing "my side are better for this minor tweak", when they're both intent on flooding the country with tens of thousands of fighting age men from incompatible cultures, is a mug's game.

I'm actually trying to make that exact point - labour isn't worse just because they're not your team, tories aren't better because they are. Shitting on Labour and implying tories are / were / would be better happens on almost every single page of this thread, and every time I come into this thread pointing out that tories are the ones that fucked the country for the last 14 years, someone ends up accusing me of arguing in favour of 'my team' labour. And it only ever happens that way round. Uniparty this uniparty that but also tories based boris based. Let's all daydream about getting a pint with boris, the aristocrat more blue blooded than the royal family.

Tories are centre right-wing, Reform slightly more right than that. Whatever else being right wing or conservative means, it means less regulation on businesses, and it is to keep operating costs for businesses down that immigrants are brought in to suppress wages. That is why this is all happening. So the answer will not come from the right, tories or reform, it will come from the left. I would like a danish-style left restricted immigration party, but none currently exists; we need to move to the left for that to happen, and labour is a necessary fractional move to the left just like we moved even further right by degrees over the last 14 years. You do not have to like labour or keir starmer for this to be true, that they are more left than the tories or reform.

Labour are incentivised to reduce immigration so as not to lose to reform. Tories should have been as well but didn't take the threat seriously, which is why they lost. It is likely that they will make some small changes, which is better than nothing and potentially part of a larger long term process. I don't expect them to solve everything, because they are only incentivised to change just enough to not lose elections.

Also, labour can take credit for those deportations, because that is how politics works. Again, nobody complained when boris bikes turned up even though they were put in place by ken livingstone. What I would really like is for the regular posters of this thread to admit that they'll cocksuck the right whatever they do, and however many immigrants they bring in. Because the right are their team.

Yeah you can really see it if you look at gross migration rather than net migration - 1964 - 2017 here and then using year ending December figures for EU + Non EU onwards from here (disregarding Brits moving back to the UK). There's a handy breakdown of EU and non EU immigration here, as well.
Immigration.png
I had to use year ending June 2024 for the last point so it might be a bit lower in practice. But it's steadily crept up since the 80s after dipping from changes to rules around Commonwealth immigration. Thatcher actively curbed non white immigration but signed the Single European Act for freedom of movement of workers (she just didn't think it should confer citizenship), although it was climbing up before then as the UK recovered from the recession in the early 80s.

Major signed Maastricht which created the concept of the "EU Citizen", and in the mid 90s immigration overtook birth rate as the key driver of population growth as the UK bounced back from Black Tuesday. Blair obviously massively boosted immigration, and Brown opposed any attempt to cap immigration. There's a bit of a dip under Cameron which may be more linked to lingering fallout from the global recession discouraging EU migration. May, who I do think actually did want to decrease immigration, failed to do anything meaningful and it continued to climb. Then you get the Boriswave. If these figures are accurate, then since 2020 5 million people have moved here. And this obviously doesn't factor in people who are here illegally or who are still waiting for an asylum decision.

The question is where are they removed to, and who is it they're removing? They're generally not sending them back to their home countries because those are considered "dangerous", so they have to be sending them to some third nation.
Typically, that third nation is the north west of England. It's third world enough for London types.

That's because they KNOW we aren't them and they still resent not having being able to ever properly subjugate us.
I will maintain to the day I die that the norf is the true 5th Nation (piss off Cornwall) and it's a total travesty that a region, no, a realm with more people in it and a damn lot more history to it too than any Cetloid craphole doesn't get it's own Parliament.
One day we'll rise again and avenge the Harrying just you wait.

I bet everyone who is full blood and soil would get a massive shock if they did a 23 And Me.
most people with a history here pre -1980 will be some mix of Irish, Scot, English, scandi and North west European . Outside of the cities, when I grew up, virtually everyone was white.
The idea that there’s no such thing as a British people is wrong. We have had raiding around the edges from Saxons and scandi and a little bit of an incursion from La continent but there’s a core population that has been here since the ice age. People with a bit of forrin ancestry were curiosities - you’d have a legend that your great great great or whatever grandfather washed up from the armada. But in general, everyone was a Brit. Lots of Scots / Irish came over in various waves where I grew up, but everyone was British in origin
Am disappointed in Kemi. She had a chance to use the ‘you can’t tell me I’m racist’ card and use it hard and she’s failed.

Yeah the whole "if you do 23 and me you'll be in for a surprise!" thing is something Americans talk about. Because America's a land of immigrants and also had loads of slaves, so -

It's a gotcha they use on white supremacists; "you claim to be some Nordic superior race but you're 5% Armenian and your great-great-grandma was a runaway slave". It doesn't tend to work in the UK because, well, this is where white people are from.
Kemi is just the culture war version of this -
She doesn't necessarily understand what a lot of people are thinking, or thinks she can use culture war arguments to support her agenda, which is how she ends up saying sandwiches are woke. I think she does have an interesting perspective as an African immigrant about how there's very little pressure to actually integrate and she's not wrong in saying that some of the issues with immigration are where the immigrants are coming from, but she fundamentally doesn't want to reduce immigration, just change the sources.

Off topic, but this is so true. It’s a whole lore in genealogy groups of Americans being upset that their DNA doesn’t show they have DNA of a Native American princess. Or then being upset that they are only 10% Irish when they are soooo Irish. One of my favourite videos is Black Americans being upset they are more European than they thought. Hugely funny every time.
Speaking of all that this video, sums up why we shouldn’t trust Americans with Genealogy and DNA tests:

Is this woman actually this fucking retarded or is it just an act? All the talk about "the best emigrated to America" sounds like cope when the sort of people who apparently went over there are stupid enough to believe that nicknaming food by its national origin means you are literally eating those people.

Oh she’s a whole rabbit hole I’m glad to introduce my fave tard:

She’s still going strong on doyoulikedinosaurs.

Her whole personality is pretending to be different ethnicities. I’ve seen her claim, Irish, Syrian, Palestinian, Romani, German, Nigerian, Somalian, Chinese, Native amongst other things.

She often shows “proof” which is just cropped DNA tests with no % showing. She’s been doing this for a long time . Allegedly on facebook for a long time in loads of ethnic groups.

She converted to Islam in the early 2000s (but retrospectively now claims she has a Syrian family or whatever Arab shit hole she’s championing that day) she also several black kids. I did look into her genealogy (thanks to her own family members going on about it) and she literally has like 1 Irish from the famine. All the rest are French Canadian and early colonial America.

IMG_2733.jpeg
IMG_2734.jpeg

Then she collects other victim status from claiming she’s a DV survivor, non-binary and autistic.

She often goes on unhinged rants about us Brits so that’s why I keep coming back. Its fucking funny.

>Brits ate thousand year old Egyptian mummies
I am 99% sure she’s just referencing Futurama.

Brits ate thousand year old Egyptian mummies
This is kind of real. There was a thing called mumia that was some kind of asphalt associated stuff that oozes from the ground in Persia and was apparently medicinal. The translation ‘munis’ got confused with the word mummy, and so there was a fad for ground up bits of mummy used in medicine

Yeah that is where the Futurama joke comes from. They mistranslated shit and thought mummy had medicinal properties. Not the bodies themselves technically but the pitch/amber like substance that they were coated on and stuff.

Oh the Mummy medicine is absolutely where this all comes from. I however, have a particular disdain for white saviour liberal Americans who shout British! Bad! at things like this.

Yes we had people who ate mummies. So did America. I found several sources of Americans who did mummy unraveling parties and the like. Well after independence. Egpytomania was everywhere

Yes we had slaves. So did America. You notice how she says in the video (omg the British ate black people in America !!! Wait that was you lot, you all wanted independence fuck off with that at least claim your own crimes)

Yes we have the British museum filled with finders keepers goods. So does the Smithsonian and probably most the museums in America. They all want to claim it’s anyone else but themselves so they can feel good about themselves. Because then they can pander to blacks and Mexicans and whatever fuckwits that are pushing CRT.

The Brits are bad because you colonized the Indians and taught them English.

Who gets to decide what and who is ethnically British?
Sorry man. I'm not going to play gay semantic games. We all know that the British are the Anglo-saxons and the celts of the British Isles. Anyone not that, isn't British. You know this, I know this, everyone knows this and anyone that pretends not to is arguing for the obliteration of the British people and should be ignored.

If you're not British and are some flavour of brown, I'm sorry for your situation, you should go out the country. You don't belong.
You probably, just to be able to draw a line in the sand, need to pick a date and anyone who draw their ancestry to that point gets to call themselves British.

I mean the hugenots aren't going back nor the landsnecht, at this stage. Portsmouth natives still have a sallow phenotype from all the lascars.

I'm not Bri'ish but 1945 probably makes sense for that. Recent enough for good records to exist. You'll have some browns included but generally they'll be the most integrated ones. It's a big enough event, end of ww2, to stand as a benchmark
