A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

How the fuck is hair color a protected characteristic, the equality act gets nothing but abused but when you have actual people that need to use it they get shunted because they don't cowtail. I feel since August this government has become an utter clown show. My spouse and I have decided near the end of the year to start the visa process. University culture is so venomous and nothing but ego with no care for facts. For me freedom of speech is a massive element it is what we hunted Nazis for and poor Winston would be spinning in his grave. I feel this year there is going to be an even greater push on freedom of speech suppression and Starmer's retarded choice of looking to join this new EU clique says everything about our economy.
a characteristic that is voluntarily changeable without real effort is not something to be protected by law

I know I don’t have to say this to the regulars in the thread, but to the stalker weirdos who are thread banned and reading this be very careful what you say online.

The government and establishment desperately need so very white bad guys at the moment and I can honestly see anti-terrorist legislation being used against teenagers posting Pepe the Frog memes to get the press to talk about something else.
Come get me Kier, I'll be waiting for ya!

Thought I would commit 2 crimes at once and include John Venables in all his HD, uncompressed glory in this.

How the fuck is hair color a protected characteristic

How is it not? It's an immutable biological trait that you cannot change beyond a superficial level, just like sex. Is a "blonde joke" really all that different from a "woman joke"?

The real question is whether this is a serious suggestion or if he's trying (and, most likely, failing) to make a point.

How the fuck is hair color a protected characteristic
It isn't, and the question was given as much consideration as it was worth.

He appears to be a pretty solid local MP and backbencher, so it seems a bit out of character he'd ask such dumb questions. He's been an MP since 2010 but when they changed the electoral boundaries, some Caerphilly locals weren't best pleased Labour made him their sole selection for the new constituency (there's an article in the Morning Star whining about it). I suspect some of the pissed off local leftists have been badgering him about their pet cause at his MP's surgery, or alternatively the other locals (Caerphilly is a strange place) have been accusing him of wokism because they heard on YouTube that Labour were making gingerism illegal, and he's just thrown up his hands and said "FINE! I'LL SUBMIT A WRITTEN QUESTION".
Which technically your MP is supposed to do, especially if they're not in Cabinet.

More news. Firstly the biggest possible seethe. Is a post-apocalyptic movie inspired by Covid? No, by Brexit! (and yes, he is in no way over it)
Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle's new zombie apocalypse film was inspired by Brexit, a writer has revealed.

Alex Garland, one of the co-creators of upcoming horror film 28 Years Later, has said that the new film was inspired by the abandonment of the UK following its majority leave vote in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

The writer said that when coming up with the script, he used his memory of the rest of the world 'turning their backs' on Britain as a backdrop for creating the film's apocalyptic scenes.

Speaking to Enquire magazine, Garland professed to Brexit holding greater creative influence over the film than the Covid pandemic.

'Covid was not on my mind because it was too recent and too present, but Brexit was', he said.

Expanding on this sentiment, he added that the referendum's results offered up 'a sense of the globe just sort of shifting its position'.

Garland has previously worked on other box-office hits such as 'Ex Machina' and 'Annihilation'.

The new thriller, which will be directed by Boyle, forms part of a trilogy which is set to star Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...baby-girl-died-fathers-arms-place-safest.html
The film depicts the UK three decades after a virus escaped into the public realm from a biological weapons lab, leaving most people monsters.

Garland explained that he and Boyle 'would spend a lot of time talking about this' time jump.

Boyle and Garland previously teamed up together to create the acclaimed 2002 zombie horror film 28 Days Later, which starred Irish duo Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson.

That film has since been credited with 'introducing' the 'fast zombie' genre to Hollywood and paving the way for other blockbuster horrors such as World Z.

'Slumdog Millionaire' director Boyle publicly backed the remain campaign in the 2016 referendum.

The 68-year-old filmmaker recently stated how he and Garland did not want to set their new zombie thriller in London once again.

'We avoided towns and cities, partly... because of how dangerous they'd be.

'But also because we made such an impression with the first one with how we depicted London, we thought we’d be crazy to try to top that', he said.

The mayor of London has said he hopes Donald Trump will be "different from the last time he was president".
Mr Trump will formally become the President of the United States for a second time at his inauguration later on Monday.
The two men have had a fractious relationship since Mr Trump's first presidency but talking to BBC London, Sir Sadiq Khan appeared to take a more conciliatory tone this time, saying he wanted to "work closely" with him.
Mr Trump's team has been contacted for a response.

When Donald Trump was last in office he called Sir Sadiq a "stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London"
There has been no love lost in the past between Sir Sadiq and the former, and soon to be next, US President.
When Mr Trump was last in office, he called Sir Sadiq a "stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London", and the mayor responded describing Mr Trump at the time as a "poster boy for racists".
Just last November, when Mr Trump beat Kamala Harris to the presidency, the mayor put out a statement claiming many Londoners would be "fearful" about what the election result would "mean for democracy".
The comment sparked criticism from Conservative London Assembly member Neil Garratt, who said at the time it was "important to recognise the legitimate winner of a free and fair election".

But since then, the new Labour government has been trying to put its own past criticisms of Mr Trump behind it in the hope of building a better relationship with the man who will determine whether the UK gets favourable trading terms with the US over the next four years.
And it seems, for now, the mayor has followed suit.
Ahead of Monday's presidential inauguration, Sir Sadiq said as somebody "who believes in democracy, and voting and elections, we should recognise the fact that Donald Trump is the elected President of the United States".
And he insisted he now "wanted to work closely with the American President".
But he added: "Let's keep our fingers crossed that this president is different from the last time he was president."
Probably shouldn't have made that wish on a monkey's paw Sadiq.

Police chief handling Gaza protests under investigation along with a fuckton of others due to being grossly incompetent. Not relating to the protests (yet) but other stuff.

The police chief in charge of coordinating the response to the Israel-Gaza protests is being investigated for allegedly sharing confidential information, The Telegraph has learnt.
Chris Noble, chief constable of Staffordshire Police, is the seventh police chief to have faced an inquiry by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) within the past year, heightening concerns about standards and leadership in the police service.
Last week, Jason Hogg, the Thames Valley Police chief constable, was suspended for alleged gross misconduct. The IOPC is investigating claims that he failed to properly investigate allegations that a former officer kept hold of sensitive police information after leaving the force.

The investigation into Mr Noble, who is the National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for the policing of protests and the national head of Operation Tarlac, the policing response to the conflict in Israel and Gaza, centres around an “employment issue” from 2018, before he joined the Staffordshire force.
Mr Noble, who previously worked at Humberside Police and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), remains at work and has not been suspended.

The inquiry is believed to be linked to an investigation into Una Kelly, Cheshire Police’s assistant chief constable, who also served the PSNI, as well as South Yorkshire Police. She was suspended last November.
An IOPC spokesperson said: “We can confirm we are independently investigating allegations that in 2018 two senior police officers at separate forces shared confidential information relating to an employment matter without proper purpose.
“This follows a referral in late October from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire, and a referral in November from Cheshire Constabulary.”

Other police leaders under investigation include two of Devon and Cornwall’s recent chief constables. Will Kerr was suspended in July 2023 over “serious allegations of sexual offences” in Northern Ireland, where he served as a police officer for 27 years. Mr Kerr has denied any criminality.
Last November, Jim Colwell, Mr Kerr’s temporary replacement at Devon and Cornwall, was suspended for “potential gross misconduct”. The IOPC said it was in relation to Mr Colwell’s “use of a work issue mobile phone to exchange messages of a personal nature without a policing purpose”.

James Vaughan, the former Dorset chief, has come out of retirement to replace Mr Colwell, the fourth man to lead the force in less than three years.
Rod Hansen, the chief constable of Gloucestershire Police, is also under investigation for the handling of an allegation of computer misuse and a potential data breach by another member of staff. He was initially suspended but is now back at work in a separate policing role.
Additionally, Humberside former chief Paul Anderson is under investigation over allegations largely relating to “communication and behaviour towards colleagues”, according to the IOPC.
On the day his case was referred to the watchdog Mr Anderson offered his retirement. He still remains under investigation.
Last June, Nick Adderley, Northamptonshire’s chief constable, was sacked for gross misconduct after a disciplinary panel found that he had lied and exaggerated his naval rank, length of service and achievements.
The IOPC had begun an investigation when allegations emerged casting doubt over Mr Adderley’s Falklands War medal that he had worn on his uniform since 2009, despite only being 15 at the time of the conflict.

https://archive.ph/o/bncO4/https://...hief-misconduct-failed-investigate-colleague/
Last June, West Mercia Police lost its incoming chief constable, Kyle Gordon after a vetting issue.
The force said Mr Gordon, a Metropolitan Police commander, would not be taking up the job despite his appointment having been announced seven months previously, and with him yet to work a day in the role.
It has left the force without a permanent chief constable since October 2023.
Regarding the investigation into Mr Noble, the office of Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner said: “We made a referral to the IOPC in late October concerning Chief Constable Chris Noble, based on information provided by them, and understand that this matter is now being investigated.
“The referral relates to the alleged sharing of confidential information regarding an employment matter in 2018, prior to him joining Staffordshire Police.
“During this period, it is very much business as usual and the Chief Constable is continuing to perform his full range of duties.”

Rick Muir, director of the influential Police Foundation, an independent think tank, said:
“I think there is something of a crisis in police leadership. It is worth reviewing these misconduct cases in their totality and looking at what wider lessons can be learnt.
“We should also be looking at how long it takes to resolve these matters, given these officers are suspended on full pay with their reputation in question for months, even years, on very expensive salaries.
“The shorter tenure of chief constables, linked to the introduction of the PCC model, is also a cause for concern. I think all of this merits some kind of wider review.”
More stupid knife shit
The son of Sheffield knife maker Stan Shaw said he was "staggered" that a beer logo created in his father's memory had been discontinued.
The tap clip used for "Stan", an ale named after the last of the little mesters cutlery makers, had on it a cartoon image of Mr Shaw holding a knife.
This, along with the specially designed ornamental knife handle used to pour the beer, led to a complaint that the branding encouraged violence.
Kevan Shaw said: "I'm staggered. To claim that [it] glorifies or incites knife crime is staggering, especially knowing who my dad was, and his legacy."

Kevan said his father was a "proper, apprentice-trained little mester" who kept working into his nineties.
The beer was launched in 2022 by the Little Mesters Brewing company, a year after Stan Shaw died, aged 93.
Kevan said a knife like the one in the image is "a work of art, a collector's piece traded through auction".
"They are craftsmen. That knife would go at auction for £1,500 to £2,000."
The complaint was upheld by alcohol industry regulator The Portman Group, which said a drink should not suggest any association with violence.
Ben Shaw, director of Little Mesters Brewing, of no relation to Stan Shaw, said he was "devastated" by the decision.

Another day, another mosque encouraging terrorism
The report is critical of the charity’s former trustees for failing to resolve a serious dispute which damaged the charity’s governance and management.

The dispute arose after one of the charity’s former trustees was convicted of encouraging terrorism. The failure to resolve it threatened the charity’s ability to prevent future harm, leading to intervention by the regulator.

As a result of the inquiry and the work of an interim manager and a newly appointed board, the regulator notes that the charity’s management and governance has improved.

Background

As part of its activities to advance Islam, the charity operates a mosque in Brighton, known locally as Dyke Road Mosque.

The inquiry was opened over a failure to resolve a dispute between the charity’s then trustees and a group claiming to have taken over as new trustees.

The Commission had initially begun engaging with the charity to assess concerns after a former trustee was charged by the police with encouraging terrorism, in a speech which he made at the charity’s premises in November 2020.

In response, the Commission issued an Official Warning to the charity after determining that the then-trustees knew, or ought to have known, of the risk posed by the former trustee. The warning set out that the trustees had failed to adequately safeguard the charity and its beneficiaries and required actions to be taken to prevent similar abuse in the future.

During this engagement, the Commission became aware of a serious dispute that risked undermining the charity’s governance. Specifically, the Commission was concerned that the dispute would impact on the charity’s ability to act on the Official Warning.

Additionally, the Commission was concerned that the charity’s procedures had not been followed in relation to the removal and appointment of trustees, and had serious concerns about the charity’s financial management.

Findings

After opening its inquiry, the Commission appointed an Interim Manager in place of the trustees to take immediate charge of the charity’s management and bank account, which included depositing donations totalling over £17,000 in cash.

The Commission found that both the former trustees, as well as the group claiming to have taken over as trustees, are responsible for misconduct and/or mismanagement.

In addition, the inquiry took steps to disqualify Dr Karim Aboutayab, one of the former trustees, who it found had been particularly culpable for a number of failings, including the failure to properly resolve the dispute within the charity.

The Interim Manager undertook an open recruitment exercise to identify new trustees, who were then formally appointed by the Commission using its power.

Joshua Farbridge, Head of Compliance Visits and Inspections at the Charity Commission, said:

Abusing a charity to encourage terrorism is a grave breach of public trust and we expect all trustees to take steps to ensure their charities cannot become safe havens for terrorist or extremist views.
While the earlier criminal conviction was outside the scope of our inquiry, what occurred at Brighton Mosque and Muslim Community Centre demonstrates how serious disputes within a charity can not only severely impact its running and reputation, but leave a charity unprotected from the risk of exploitation by those with malign intentions.
In this case, we acted robustly to address the issues and get the charity back on track – disqualifying a former trustee, safeguarding the charity’s assets, and establishing a stable and effective governance structure.
The full inquiry report is available on gov.uk.

I feel like the hair thing is to do with grey hair and it's probably more about ageism.
Possibly but unlikely since that's not likely to get the same conversations. I think there might be a genuine thing about protected characteristics under discussion there. Gingers do get pops taken at them the same way blond jokes were a thing but honestly I've heard more (insert the roughest town near to you) girls jokes than ones relating to hair colour.

Still gingers are relatively uncommon in terms of the world population which might be a factor in people trying to get it raised. It's probably a genuine factor in why Holywood loves to replace gingers with minority actors instead since the relatively scarcity of gingers makes them hard to find and replacing them with people with different skin colours instead allows them to scream "racism" when people object.

Goodness they must have run out of web-toed albino cousins to marry, and are now after the local children.
On a serious note, that's actually so fucking grim, children should be able to walk to school safely *sigh*

I hate how instead of solving the actual issue, like getting rid of the migrants, the solution is to not have the kids wear anything identifying them as school kids, make loud noises and run away, and walk in groups. Way to protect the kids guys, they're rapey migrants not bears, I doubt any of that is going to work long term.

Was writing about how I want total foreign nigger death + foreign nigger children and women included and whether that would realistically be justified but I'm frankly too fucking tired to think of a good way to say it and I think it might be a bit too autistic even for me. A small rat can dream though, no?

I do wonder though, how long can this last? At what point do people just fucking snap? Where is rock bottom and could we even get ourselves out from there in a short enough time? Because I refuse to believe this can go on forever in this way this quickly without people becoming so distressed and start lashing out very violently.

Also, I went through that school's website and while I didn't find that specific letter for obvious reasons I did find this if you're interested, it's a letter regarding sexual exploitation. No mention of "stay the fuck away from anyone who isn't white, looks like he does smack or appears to be 50 years old and moves around like a queer" though.

Don’t worry Sadiq! I think he will be different from last time. He’s much more prepared

I love how none of the solutions are ‘find the men attempting to abduct children and remove them with extreme prejudice’ and how ALL the measures are the responsibility of the children. We bleat about victim blaming, but here it is writ large. It’s the kids fault, for wearing school blazers and walking to school, clearly.
It was altrincham where the migrants were offered private healthcare as well. Clearly being protected, at the expense of innocent children
