A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Serious question - do none of you own a kitchen ? Without wishing to out myself in case Yvette is reading this, but I have loads of knives in mine. Surely if his parents had a kitchen, all he had to do is go in there and tool up ?
I don't understand why he'd need to buy his knives from Amazon. Surely he could just get them from his own house. Are we heading to a knife armistice ? I look forward to carving my Sunday roast with a spoon.
Nobody mention what's in the shed !
I look forward to carving my Sunday roast with a set of these bad boys...

As someone who has to deal with CAMHS and occasionally prevent more often than you would think. I would say once a week on the ward we will have a non-English person referred to them. They are both absolutely fucking useless, you will very rarely find a non-DEI person and they are both useless. In my area of work the CAMHS backlog is about 2 years long and they are mostly non mental health trained. As for PREVENT so many times a member I have worked with has been hung up or replied with "you can't say that, it's racist". Sadly I cannot go into details but I have seen some batshit stuff.

Why is Hitler marking every post as being autistic?
Projection.

To avoid a one word post plod's talking with Corbyn.
MPs Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell have agreed to be interviewed under caution by police following a pro-Palestinian rally in central London on Saturday, the BBC understands.
The former Labour leader, 75, and former shadow chancellor, 73, will voluntarily attend a police station in the capital as the Met investigates what it says was a coordinated effort by organisers to breach conditions imposed on the event.
They will be interviewed on Sunday afternoon, the force said.
Ten other people have been charged with public order offences following arrests at the protest organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC).

The force said 24 people had also been bailed and 48 remain in custody.
In a statement, the Met said the 10 people charged are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in the coming days.
It added that three men have agreed to attend voluntarily at a central London police station to be interviewed under criminal caution and a "75-year-old, 73-year-old and 61-year-old will be interviewed by officers this afternoon".
The protest came as Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
A static rally involving several thousand people took place in Whitehall after police blocked plans to hold a march from Portland Place, near the headquarters of the BBC.
Police said a group of protesters attempted to march from the rally and were stopped a short distance away after breaking through a police line to gather at Trafalgar Square.
In a post on X on Saturday, the Met posted a photo of what it described as a group "that forced its way through the police line" being held at the north-west corner of Trafalgar Square.
In response, Corbyn said in a separate separate post: "This is not an accurate description of events at all".
"I was part of a delegation of speakers, who wished to peacefully carry and lay flowers in memory of children in Gaza who had been killed."
"This was facilitated by the police. We did not force our way through."
McDonnell echoed Corbyn's comments in his own post on X, saying: "We did not force our way thru, the police allowed us to go thru & when stopped in Trafalgar Square we laid our flowers down & dispersed."
Police had imposed conditions on the organisers of the rally under the Public Order Act that prevented them gathering outside the BBC's Broadcasting House because of its close proximity to a synagogue and a risk there could be "serious disruption" as congregants attended services on the Jewish holy day.
Corbyn now sits as the independent MP for Islington North. Hayes and Harlington MP McDonnell currently sits as an independent, after Labour suspended the whip from him for six months in July 2024 for voting against the government over child benefit rules.
How many Corynites are there still in Labour while Kier whines about stopping radicalisation?

just send fucking Corbyn to Gaza at this point, we can callhim a peace ambassador or some other shit, just get rid of the old bugger

So in todays news, we've decided that Amazon was actually at fault for Crabman stabbing 13 kids and adults at a dance class and not any of the Government organizations, the kids father or anyone else who was well aware of his behaviour.

The current spin is an attempt at blaming sites like Amazon for allowing the nig to go online and purchase a kitchen knife which he used in the stabbing. Naturally this is a way to pass more and more online monitoring and a push for online ID's as expected (never let a good tragedy go to waste). There has also been a very large push against online information as they have put it "access to unrestricted access to information on the internet" so expect more to be added to the online harms bill or something like it to pop up soon.

"oy mate you got a loicence for that knife?"

Interesting that the BBC are running with the angle that knives are the problem, with Yvette cooper saying you shouldn't be able to buy a knife on amazon AT 17.

ID checks required for purchases online, incoming?
I might be totally wrong about this, but don't the kitchen drawer, the garden shed and the toolbox all hold numerous potentially deadly weapons?

I thought the main advantage of a super-skill-demon-slayer style knife was a bit of street cred when showing off to your mates. And not looking too silly when you try to threaten someone with your nan's pastel coloured Kuhn Rikon.

Funny thing is that you don't even need a knife to do any of this. You can embrace your inner mad max and make your own homemade shiv or pick or use something like a screwdriver instead. You can even buy swords from antique and pawn shops and just sharpen them again to get rid of any of the dulling they did. A crack down on knives being bought on Amazon is just another excuse for the government to glaze over the issue rather then address the actual issue.

Also those knives kids like are mostly popular because they look like their from Call of duty.

"If only Amazon hadn't sold him this knife, then this wouldn't have happened" isn't a very compelling argument given he was also convicted of making RICIN.

They already need ID for knives on Amazon. In supermarkets too. They're trying to shame Chinese drop shippers into sending it some weird way that asks for ID.

I fucking hate the government.
Can confirm.

I recently bought Mrs DMV a vicious looking carving fork as a present. She cooks a decent roast dinner, so she deserves the proper tools. It's really fucking pointy.
Deliveryman ID'd her at the doorstep, almost spoiling the surprise. She probably hoped it was booze.

I suspect this is going to be Labour's chance to introduce special ID to browse the cookware section online. It'll also cover special ID for nudey websites.
Maybe eventually it'll be a traceable ID before visiting any website, and the government will know where and when and what you typed – we can't possibly abide right-wingers making angry shitposts about stabbed children.

This is a pessimistic viewpoint and I hope I'm wrong. I doubt they'll waste this opportunity.

It ends when the government either accepts that the issue is low IQ third world retards being imported by the millions, or all the people are dead from said third world retards.

This is a pessimistic viewpoint and I hope I'm wrong. I doubt they'll waste this opportunity.
Labour - and all politicians to be fair - are relentless fucking vultures that will happily use the problems they caused, they encouraged, and they allowed to metastasize, as a way of pushing through more and more bullshit. The end goal seems to just be 24/7 monitoring and control of everyone everywhere, so that everyone just shuts up and does as they are told. Because our government is evil and hates us.

Also VPN's are a legitimate 100% must to have, we live in what is rapidly devolving into a police state designed to make us ignore our replacement and extermination by literal subhuman animals.

I am angry. Angry online. Mad at the Internet if you will.

Run a VPN, run a script killer, run Linux, run none google search engines and browsers, etc. Do what ever you can to keep your online data out of their hands.

Naturally it can only go so far and your ISP can always dob you in but in there here and now make it as difficult as possible.
