A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Interesting point you make here. My current book for my train commute to work ( I only do it to scare the normals away from me )

What a handsome guy

Anyways with regard to the vote to have an enquiry into the grooming gangs - do labour MPs know that the cabinet is abstaining beforehand? Because I would be pretty pissed if I was an amoral image focused labour MP who got whipped to vote no and then the cabinet make me look like even more of an asshole by abstaining?? Also what's the point in abstaining?? Just vote no you snivelling cretins - be proud of the choices you have made.

I was disgusted to see GC luvvie Rosie Duffield voted no. My MP also voted no - I'm going to email them to give them a piece of my mind but I also do not want to be convicted under the malicious communications act. I need to cool off. It's just so depressing to see a government run cover for minorities instead of delivering some kind of justice for those poor girls.

Your MP was voted in to represent thrir constituents, whether that constiuent voted for them or not.

I very much doubt that even if 10,000 of her constituents emailed their displeasure at her voting no that it would change anything at all. But it might, only might, make her feel some shame.

The way I always look at it is this: in telling them how I feel and how I disagree with them, they cannot, hand on heart say their actions and voting are agreed with by all of their constituents.

The MP I've had who I liked best was Scottish labour in Glasgow west. He was a lovely fellow. Of the area, generous with his time, and did a lot of unseen generous things with local charities. Also he would always listen to his constituents and even if what they said or thought went against party lines he would make time to listen to concerns and take action if he could do.

He helped me out in a terrible time in my life and a few months later I visited westminster. One of his aides took me on a tour of the commons and lords and then I met him for a coffee and he took an hour out his day to spend time talking to me. I won't ever forget what appeared to be his very genuine kindness and warmth nor will I forget how he remembered my situation a few months prior and his interest in if he could help further and if things were better for me.

There are some good MPs. Even I, as a hardened cynic can see that and if anyone has an MP who has helped them or done good for their community then that is all to the good.

I have a special hatred for Freemasons and everytime I am shown the actions of one, my hatred is further justified.
He’ll have been booted out. York rite don’t fuck around when it comes to criminal convictions.

Source: I know quite a few masons as well as someone kicked out for something far far far less serious than noncing.

Masons are just a gentleman's club that filter out undesirables by requiring a bit of effort to join.

Sure, a few centuries ago it was a nepotism network and some got way too into the larp. But in 2025 it's a load of middle-aged men who go drinking in a club house on Wednesdays. They aren't going to protect a nonce. The whole thing is a social group for well-adjusted Dads.

It genuinely warms my cockles that something we can all get behind is, Owen Jones is a massive cunt. It really, truly does. He is a patronising, self-aggrandizing, working class fetishizing, deluded twat and I love that, a unifying force on here, is how much of a sanctimonious prick he is.

Anything wrong with the working classes?

I find James O'Brien more annoying these days
It doesn't help that I know people who watch the twat 24/7

I hate the idea of international intervention but I really do hope that other countries decide to tariff us into oblivion , namely America. I honestly don't see a way out of this on our own without the country getting very VERY violent. If the UK is ostracised and punished for how it's treat it's citizens and the shear disregard for the wrong doings inflicted upon it then just maybe they can flush some of them out.

We have to decide soon as it's only going to get worse, intervention or revolution.

Nothing whatsoever. What is wrong is these fart huffing middle class metropolitan wankers who, on the one hand laud the working class, and on other absolutely despise us, or worse us for their own selfish political ends. Like Owen Jones does.

They like the idea of us, but deep down despise us for having ideas, beliefs, and thoughts of our own.

Edited to say: Apologies BTW for the me rail: I grew up in Thatchers 80s in a single parent family. My mother was not a single mother by choice. One day, my Dad went to work and did not come home. he left, because he was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by a sibling and he did not want to make the same mistakes on his own children. At 18, I had a choice. Go to Uni, or go to work and be the second wage earning adult in our household, and I opted for the latter. At 18 I was working 50 hours a week, to support our Mam.

I have very concrete, defined ideas about university education, the welfare state, immigration, and the economy. And I know that, on the one hand, hard lefties froth at gash over my tale of wooooeeeeeeezz but on other, fucking despise me for hating brown people who lie to get in the UK, for having a hardline on homosexuality, and for believing that, actually benefits for people out of work and looking should be increased, while cutting state benefits for those who choose to make themselves dependant by choosing single parenthood by not naming a father on the birth certificate. You can't work because you are genuinely incapable? Frendo, you need and deserve all the compassion and support in this worl we can give you. You are injured at work and left unable to work any more? Sucks, we should suppport you for rest of your natural life. You choose to get spunked up by some no neck waster and not name him on birth certificate? Fuck you even unto the ends of the earth, you should get nowt, birth controland abortion are free at point of use, make use of both.

It would be a Suez-level embarrassment if America forced us to fix this issue... but that's still better than the Establishment's preferred choice, i.e. brushing it under the carpet again.

Owen Jones views the working class the same way Winston from 1984 views the Proles
People who due to their numbers have the power to overthrow the system but are far too dumb to do that on their own and need someone smarter (someone middle class) leading them and telling them what to do for their own good. That is the essence for why middle class people like Owen treat the working class the way that they do, they believe them so utterly brainwashed and stupid that they aren't humans like him and as such are viewed as little more then tools in order to achieve his ends.

This always ends up being revealed whenever they are talking about the rising right wing populism among the working class in the UK, "They've all been lied to by dangerous right wing politicians and media outlets who are just using them and they're far too stupid to see it"

That's the thing, frendo. If we all just stopped and put down left vs right politics for a hot damn second and focussed on fact it is those bastards in power against us, the vox populi thenwe could unite against them and topple them. But we don't and we never will. It's all left vs right, norf vs sarf, tory vs labour.

They know what works, and work it does.
