A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

At this point I assume they are:
a) also muslim,
b) also a pedo,
c) utterly incompetent and uncaring.
Those who are all 3 make up the other 99.54%
 
Americans are out in full force jerking themselves off with their guns again. Josh talking about the rape gangs was pretty disappointing. He was just reveling in the suffering. I know it might be fun to laugh at the British because they act smug, but Americans are the same.

Americans point to Eurocucks and laugh because no 2A; Europeans point and laugh at Amerimutts because of school shootings.

Nothing is done, and people just take comfort that someone else has it worse.

Im not from western europe so its not as bad here, YET, but they are coming. I didnt see any blacks until 2012, now there are multiple ones at the gym. I see them every time i use public transport, every delivery driver is a jeet. În 20 years my city will be worse than in the 90s when society collapsed.

He is as glorious as he is retarded.

He also needs to start lifting and stop blaming coffee for being fat.

Reading about reform in this thread is somewhat depressing, we have all these “different” political parties yet they’re all fucking useless.

The NHS is a money pit.
When you've seen shit like: paracetamol for £3.33 when in Tesco it's 50p, office chairs costing >£1k for a shitty thing you could get in Argos for £100, disposable curtains around beds costing £10 each when they could be found for a tenth of the price... you get VERY jaded.

Procurement is a massive problem. The NHS bigwigs give the contracts to their cronies who sell their products at a massive markup, meaning our marvellous NHS is paying £2k for a desk worth £400 max. We saw the worst of this during Covid.
All the "consultants" (not medical) need to be axed because they're just finding more ways to spend money. The locum budget a massive drain. Staff are realising that they make a hell of a lot more working locum than full time, so many are doing that instead.

Much more needs to be invested in social care for the elderly to alleviate bed blocking. GP facilities need to be expanded to cope with the growing population who can't see a doctor. Due to this they go to A&E and cause bottlenecks, leading to >12hr waiting times.

All the people who screech about the NHS being underfunded don't see that you can throw billions at it but it wont improve because resources are massively mismanaged.

•Axe 80% of exec level and non medical consultants, invest in GP recruitment NOT physician assistant noctors, invest in social care.
I've just fixed the NHS. Give me medal.

It's a dumb argument to make as well. The argument is "We have guns Britain does not and that's why they have this issue" when America has just as bad a grooming problem as us and despite citizens having the means to do something about it they choose not to for the same reason British people decide not to do something about it, Bystander syndrome. No one on either side of the Atlantic wants to risk their family's livelihood and safety for nothing to change.
