A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Elon is boosting the rape gangs story because its mostly pakistani men that are doing the raping. He is doing this to distract people from the indian menace. He is listening to his jeet advisors because they hate pakis. What he doesn't realise is that only Indians and pakis can see the difference between them.

In the end with the care companies its either big names who profit or these shady shell companies who "care" for people. I had a patient's family tell me the shady shit these fuckers pull and its disgusting. The patient acquired breathing pnuemonia and was in hospital care for 3 weeks 2 and a half were finding an actually good company to care for the patient. All this because councils give contracts to these companies who are 100% of the time operated by foreigners or use exclusively foreigners. It's all a big con in the end this not only stresses the patient but the family who were great had to go find companies themselves on top of hospital sisters co-ordinating. It's absolutely lunatic and the definition of insanity.

In my experience working in this sector I have noticed a shocking difference in staff. So hospitals most of the time tend to be fine outside of London, a lot of the Black nurses 1st gen and 2nd gen especially if carribean or Zambian are fantastic honestly some of the best. Filipinos are still the best their knowledge and skill sets are insane and they are so good to co-ordinaton on top of being excellent trainers. Indians are just non-existent in the field as they tend to go for junior doctor roles. The truly fucked up thing though is the care homes, the level of care and skill are non-existant on top of just being lazy, this is where you get a surplus of Africans and Indians who honestly should not be in this country. They have no reading skill and do not communicate at all. When I have to pursue a patient's history to diagnose (I work in diagnosis) a lot of the time I am pursuing their notes and the level of neglect is off the charts. The amount of reports I have to CQC in my inbox which I tend to check up on after a month or so is mental. I don't like being a steriotyper as outliers exist but trends are a thing and sadly they cannot be ignored.

The area I work in is surrounded by smaller councils who are all bankrupt, their current plans cannot even function in most of the UK. Elon is an idiot, anyone with any worldview know that Indians are the worst and are like locusts, Pakis and Indians are both the same but their mongoloic population lack the introspection, I am disgusted by how many of them populate America currently, I returned to my partner after a year here and they were everywhere, just disgusting.

There is literally no difference between a Pakistani and an Indian. We drew an arbitrary line down the middle of the country in the '40s and the Muslims went to Pakistan and the Hindus stayed in India. That's it.

A jeet is a Paki is a jeet.

Thought the police shooting bit was more about the Brazilian running for his train got shot in a "mistaken identity" situation.

The care reform being delayed is no surprise and although it is desperately needed if not just for social care but the whole health sector in general, there may be some benefit, in the off-chance there's a general election before then. Would also be good if there was an actual party who would actually want to improve thing too, instead of current range of useless shite available.

Maybe not ethnically, but culturally Islam is a pretty huge difference. India doesn't have nearly as big a problem with inbreeding either.

I feel like I must emphasise, I don't think Chris Morris is a closet paedophile or a terrorist sympathiser or anything like that, I just think he's an edgy leftie who says and does politically edgy things to be funny and piss off the right-wing, without really thinking about people's actual concerns.
He's very endemic of the safe-edgy "The Daily Mail won't like THIS" humour of 90s Channel 4; comedy with the pretence of "upsetting the establishment". You're supposed to ignore the fact all his comedy is commissioned and broadcast on literal state-owned media like the BBC or Channel 4, or funded by the British Film Institute.

I can't lie and say I don't find some of his sketches funny and I still think he's a very gifted comedian. All the shit parts of The Day Today or Brass Eye have that Steve Coogan or Armando Iannucci stink ("What if a drug was called Cake? That's so random!!" or "I just swore on television, bet you weren't expecting that!").

The Day Shall Come was dogshit though, and the best example of Morris having all the opinions that only a silver spooned Guardian brain could have. Based on true stories, it's centred around how evil and white the American three letter agencies were for stopping literal black supremacist groups that wanted to kill whitey.

Oh yay, care reforms for the disabled an elderly are set to take years.

When the actually solution is not to restructure of give more funding etc etc etc it is to force the people that are supposed to do the job to actually do their job . When an elderly or disabled person comes to you with a list of detailed problems, frequently also with the answers to how to fix those issues, because you have been so unwilling to do your job they’ve had to do it for you, the solution isn’t to go ‘no’ or ‘wedon’t think you need that’ ‘are you sure’ ‘have you spoken to x’

You should actually the case files and understand them and actually do your job.

The problem is the people are lazy fucks.
The NHS and how it "works" are the reason I do not work in the field of my allied healthcare professional related degree (trained as a Podiatrist, fucking hated clinical placements and the NHS as a whole, only graduated out of sheer spite and now work in engineering).

I think you're selling Patrick Marber a bit short, to be honest, he's very funny. It's a shame that he got out of comedy and now only writes pretentious plays with women that he wants to have sex with.

That attack fucked me up. I was a seasoned London commuter back then, although I wasn’t in London that day. Suicide bombers in London? Unthinkable. London was no stranger to terrorism, but barbarism on that scale was just beyond belief.

The problem with the British tendency to keep calm and carry on… well it means that 7/7 is basically forgotten. What was its legacy? Four Lions?

Same for Manchester Arena and it’s only been seven years.
That’s almost a decade. That’s a long time. And people did jot just forget, it’s lead to clear obvious voter shifts etc. what are you expecting? The common person to starrt killing people themselves? To wallow in the loss of life forever? Evrn the most caring people do not have time for that and it would do you no good.
It‘s just a money pit of usually poorly paid workers and Labour always screech “throw more money at it“ so their union pals can skim some extra funding off it.
It’s no surprise really that the key compinants are set for Phase 2 which is set to happen after Labour could be out of power. It’s clear Labour has no intent on this going anywhere.

The solution is to actually do the job, this means people can get out of the system so that the money can go towards paying the people that run stuff more or that the public goes ‘the system is great, we should give the people that run it more money because of how good it is’

But no, just an endless money funnel while those same people keep screaming sbout the worsening problems that they will absolutely fix if you through more money at it.

I still maintain to this day that that Brazilian got what he fucking deserved.

What is almost comical is that they didn’t, and still don’t, realise that they are the establishment now. They own the cultural zeitgeist, the courts, most the media, the police, etc.

I need to stop doom pilling.

I have found that there is no faster way to hate the system than working in it and having a family member rely on it at the same time.

You get to see both the internals and the externals of it at the same time. Great fun.

Engineering is a much better use of your time. For your own sake. Which is a shame. We could do with more people like you in the NHS.

I’ve known a few people who worked for it and all the stories are horrible.

I have a hate boner for them as I’ve seen it ruin people who have worked for it. It needs to be burnt down and rebuilding into some thing new as it’s mostly an insane and poisonous place.

I'll say one thing for Chris Morris. He did a perfect impersonation of the Breadtube troon, Mia Mulder, in his character of Sukie Bapswent.

That's true. The only times I've ever found Steve Coogan funny was when Patrick Marber happened to have a writing credit.

Shame his brain is broken. He's the sort to nod and go "hmm, yes, very true" when Alastair Campbell complains about the loss of "truth and dignity in politics". Which of course was caused only by Brexshitter-in-Chief Nigel Farage (bit hypocritical for him to be against infinity immigration when his surname is French!).

(I work in diagnosis)
Oh, you poor batard. lmao. It’s hell isn’t it.
They have no reading skill and do not communicate at all
Heaven forbid the person they are looking after is actually complicated and fucked up. They struggle to understand basic shit.

Why are there so many problems social workers? Gee, have you stopped trying to offload them on people that make the problems worse?

And then you get the wonderful fact that the staff get changed out every few months when their ‘probation and training period’ is over so they don’t have to be paid.

Leading to a revolving door of people that can’t communicate dealing with vulnerable, scared and at risk people that are getting progressively more worried each time.

I WONDER WHY THERE ATE PROBLEMS?!

Offt, now social work, that’s a job that REALLY fucks people up.

It warps a lot of peoples brains by somehow making them incredible naive to the scum bags they’re dealing with as some sort of regular human they can fix.

For a profession staffed entirely by Guardian readers it amazes me how none of them can see each other’s white saviour complexes.

The only ones who don’t go insane tend to be women from tough backgrounds who know how the world works and not everyone can be saved.

You couldn’t pay me enough to either do that job or have any professional involvement with it.

Kicker is a lot of them are people you can fix. But you usually have to fight the people that say ‘you can’t do this thing’ that outrank you or my favourite ‘doctor/social worker say they need doctor/social worker to write down the problem everyone can see before they can do anything and the doctor/social worker can’t do that because no one has identified it on paper yet’

Fuck that bullshit loop of bs.

Most social workers are not built to have to fight not only their profession but sometimes the people they are trying to help in order to get people help.

They go in thinking they can help and it will be easy only to come out screaming about red tape and the people that sign off on shit being cunts.
