A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That does no fucking good in Scotland whatsoever since the Catholic schools remain sited in the poor areas.

Like I say, I have no regrets over it whatsoever, but I also fully understand the effect of the most engaged, and the most time-rich and resource-rich parents completely fucking bailing on the state system. Yes, via taxation I remain a net contributor to the system and all that, but whatever energy and drive for change I could bring, either personally or as a professional Karen mummy, is quite simply not there. It is the antithesis of the aim of the comprehensive system. I'm going to do it anyway for as long as it is legally allowed, because parenting is inherently a selfish activity. I am however not going to be a fucking hypocrite and pretend that's not why I'm doing it. I am giving wild side eye to anyone at this point trying to argue there is a social good in sending Matilda and Nicholas to Dotheboys Hall or St Hockeysticks.
My brother is lucky as the catchment area he’s in has papey schools on par with private ones. I’m so glad we moved away from my home town. I could think of me or my brother sending our kids to our old school.

I watched Father of the Bride Part 2, played that Robocop video game, then spent the rest of the night forcing myself through Burroughs' Naked Lunch (worse than I remember). In for bed before twelve- new year's tradition.

We went to private schools and we send our kids to one. The social benefit is that our kids don't have to associate with poor folks or anyone with learning needs. This is not a benefit to society, just to our kids. It is a completely selfish decision. I have no shame or regret about it, but I can't pretend that I believe I am acting in the best interest of 'society'. I am buying my kids a significant privilege and advantage in life, quite deliberately. No one is coming out to bat for the 'social benefits' of what we are doing because we are all well aware of what we are doing. We have fucking bailed on the state education system because our little Jemimas and Tristans are too precious to associate with the Olivia-Maes and the Jacksons.
The whole point of society is to produce children and future generations who won't burn everything down. Your children, hopefully, are more likely to be net contibutors to society than what many of the shit tier state schools are producing.

Private schools create their own problems, and reinforce some of the worst aspects of British culture. However they're not the cause of the failings in the state sector.

It is though just only in bad-selfish greater good terms that aren't socially acceptable to actually bring up.
Kids do better in groups when the herd is at the same level if you cut out the tards and bright-eyes everyone benefits, this goes against equality dogma however and will never be mentioned in good faith

Crack down hard on companies using illegal migrant labour, making the financial penalties a percentage of total company value rather than a flat rate, and make it high enough to genuinely impact their ability to survive.
Need to make individuals responsible, from line managers up to c suite legally responsible too. Zero tolerance. Whistleblowers/cooperating witnesses to get paid out of the fines

Don’t even think of guilt. I cant afford to send mine to private schools but if I could, I absolutely would. You do the best you can by your kids, that’s the whole point of parenting. Anyone telling you it’s wrong is just jealous they can’t afford it

People are probably sick of being run over by pakis every time they go shopping.

Never forget the time Tesco staff were yellow labelling products and they literally had to put a barricade up before they shelved it, otherwise all the pakis and niggers would quite literally fight and bum rush it. This was in Woolwich (South East London) so you can imagine the scenes, never visiting that shit hole again.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if most asylum seekers are Muslim, why are they going home for Christmas? A holiday that they wouldn't celebrate?
Maybe it's just meant as the descriptor of the period of time?
Muzzies here still take leave around Dec/Jan unless they own a retail business.

It's still a cultural thing, and if they're an actual darkie from some subsaharan people's democratic federal republic odds are they're "christian" anyway, bLACK people love Jesus and his snakes and his tongue talking.

It doesn't matter shat time of year it is.

These people are claiming asylum here on the basis they are unsafe in the hole they're from. If it is so unsafe why are they going back???

Them going back totally undermines the whole pretence of why they claim to need to be here.

Yeah agreed but that's not what I was responding to.
I was asked "Why would they go back for Christmas if they were Pedo-worshippers?" and answered.

On the question of "If it's so unsafe why are they going back??" my answer is "Who cares about their safety. They should never have been allowed into Western countries in the first place"

Sat at home, ordered myself a pizza and plan to watch some movies.

On another note though reports of massive armed police presences in almost every main city in the UK and Europe, to such an extent some places like Germany have deployed their equivariant of the national guard and Amsterdam is effectively an iron wall. Any chances of anything kicking off tonight? Likely just a response to what happened in Germany as I don't think they could live down another incident like that so soon.
Guess who fucking called it! Continent off but it's the message that counts. Even appears to be one of our stunning doctors who did this as well, flag and all.
