A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

edit; holy shit basically sacked for fraud, I think Starmer is speedrunning a lot of stuff before Trump is in because he is going to have an enormous choke hold over Nato and Europe as a whole. Most of the Euro leaders actually like him which leaves Starmer fucked because he basically has no veto power anymore and they actively dunk on him.

We clearly need more measures in place to stop the PM doing stupid shit like Chaugus or the Storm missiles to Ukraine.

More likely than you might like, guy I know was a parliamentary tard wrangler for a while and the amount of attempts/near misses/total screwups that could have been so much worse is insane.
More than once he had the same fat angry retard show up at the office (the kind with a big fuck-off vault door CCTV burglar alarms and armed response panic alarms) force his way in and... calmly wait in reception to be seen, because the only people who really try that stuff are angry retards as seen in the assassinations we had last few years where actual schizos with knoives just shove their way through.
It's no wonder facebook sperging worries them so much if it ever migrates to IRL and the idiots trying it gain 20 or more IQ points they're fucked.

More and more is coming about the tax changes and lack of impact assessments (or it seems deliberately withholding of some of it) being carried out before implementing them. This is basics.

The guy's work history checks out; he worked at Bank of Scotland from 2000, through its merger with Halifax to become HBOS, and the subsequent acquisition by Lloyds, and left in 2010 to become a consultant of some sort. He's retired and living in Portugal now. Claims he tried to contact journalists about this when Reeves was appointed, but nobody was interested.

E: People joke about labour speed-running everything, but they've taken less than five months to reach a level of graft of corruption that the tories only managed after five years of consistent effort.

Whist I want this to be true he doesn’t sound like a FS guy the way he talks, might be a generational thing though.
 
I was in charge of the school tuck shop in years 8-10 and did a fine job. I never fiddled my expenses, the books always balanced and I was praised for my quick skill at working out change … although I did eat a few out of date WHAM! Bars marked for destruction
Since I’m as qualified as reeves, possibly more so, and I have a modicum of common sense, can I take a shot at it?

Too many endorsements to be anything else. You can't fake up that level of history on LI without getting caught (look at Reeves for a perfect example). Generational differences seem likely, but also background. He started out in marketing and sales, judging by his CV, and grew up in Lancashire, so he's not going to be a City financier stereotype. The bombastic boomerisms would be par for the course.
 
The big issue is no one checked her CV, ironically they have done if she’d applied for another job in Financial Services, or the establishment and press did check and said nothing, if this is true.

And no, most of us dont embellish our CVs, because regular responsible jobs have background checks and will fire you if you lie. What a disgusting article.
