A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Probably for the best, before you start asking how to make a Maltese Cross or a Ventian Blind....

A friend once joked to me that Belgium is famous for just two things: Paedophiles and Chocolate. And that they only learned how to make chocolate to lure in the kids.

The oldest continuous alliance in the world is between Britain and Portugal. They hate out tourists but they’re otherwise fine with us.

Yep. Churchill even went and invoked it during WW2 to allow British planes and troops to be stationed on the Azores, which proved vital in winning the Battle of the Atlantic.

Salazar was technically neutral but he hated the nazis and fed British intelligence a lot with their “hello fellow fascists” routine with the Axis.

Refugee Action (UK charity) is asking everyone to channel their anger about Trump's reelection and sign their petition, which will surely make Keir quake in his boots:

The news that Donald Trump is going to be America’s president is terrifying. I won’t try and sugarcoat it. For those of you who met the news with anger, frustration and fear - I’m with you, I feel it too.

I’m reaching out to remind you that we’re all here together, and we will not give up.

We’re campaigning to end the racist rhetoric that allows leaders like him to gain office.

Need somewhere to channel your feelings right now?

SIGN OUR PETITION AGAINST RACISM

We’re going to need Keir Starmer to recognise the role that Donald Trump plays in spreading this hate, and stand up to the policies and hateful rhetoric that threatens refugees’ lives.
Is it a petition on the government‘s official petition website? Because Parliament have to discuss those ones if they reach a certain number of signatures.

So, as many of you will have noticed gender identity ideology is everywhere. It's in UK schools, universities, the NHS, HR departments, and widely lauded by various slack-jawed celebrity figures. We've happily adopted this export from US universities. It's clearly a very robust and well studied aspect of public policy that we should all adopt without second thoughts. Oh wait, what's this - the government spokesperson for equalities can't even provide a working governmental definition for what gender identity is when questioned in the House of Lords.

:optimistic: Hopefully more officials will start to wake up to this academic pseudoscience and we'll start to see more and more roll backs. :optimistic:

"A woman is an adult female, how dare you pretend that's a complicated definition."
"Well it didn't use to be. So if you could be really clear-"
"*outraged squealing*"

Fucking hell, it is no wonder that more "old school" feminists increasingly want these politicians strung up.

A woman being redefined as an adult female where female is determined by being someone whose gender identity is that of a woman is a bullshit designation and they know it is. That the House of Lords, who are a borderline parody of old male privilege, are increasingly in a position to clown these equalities ministers would have been hysterical a decade ago. Now it's meant to be taken seriously.

In good news the nations leading Crisp Salesman Garry Lineker is stepping down from match of the day and likely the BBC as a whole, I am glad because he's a over paid bloviating dickhead BUT I have to know whats caused this.

My speculation is that it smell's as he's been loving the attention of being that well paid to talk shit about politics an football and I am guessing he's been pushed and he's being allowed to save face and he's going before he's pushed because the BBC likely can't survive another Hew Edwards scale scandal I doubt he's into kids don't get that feeling from him likely drugs an women they have actively been covering up, he's not well liked by the majority of Football fan's either from what I can gather so him commanding the largest salary at the BBC is getting harder an harder for him to demand.

In a blast from the past, this is Jacqui Smith, who was Gordon Brown's DEI hire Home Secretary. I'd wondered what happened to her. She was the worst holder of one of the Great Offices of State until David Lammy came along.

The noble Lord should check the Equality Act... well, he might do that, but gender identity famously isn't mentioned in the Equality Act. Muppet.

I remember her porno documentary, very appropriate since her casting down was thanks to her expenses list including her husband pay per view habits.
The fact blatant thieves like her don't get their careers tossed out of window anymore is a testament to the quality of official we have, she of all people gets lordship? Bad joke.

She was notable until this year for not having a peerage. Normally Home Secretaries get one as soon as they leave the Commons. She was definitely on a shitlist... but Starmer's gonna Starm.

Probably a coincidence but he recently asked [archive] on Twitter for questions for his The Rest Is Football podcast on and got ratioed off the face of the earth by TERFs of every creed and colour. 2000 responses, almost all asking about males in women's sports. Most focusing on the 17-year-old girl banned for six games by the FA for asking if a man was a man, plenty on Imane Khelif too.

I have this feeling the winds of change are coming, it's just a feeling in the air.

So interestingly in the medicine field there is a growing number of based young people and I was listening whilst studying some med students complaining about trannies. I notice too that lecturers are really cooling off on it too. We have discussed tran shit 0 this term. The Red brick universities seem to be rejecting this stuff and that is great.

Hahahaha, nope! It's on Refugee Action's own webpage, backed by this bastion of democracy fundraising:

Don't let the opening line of 'Raise more money / win more campaigns' fool you; this is actually about, er....

"Build petitions, email to target forms, click to call actions, Tweet to target and more using Engaging Networks’ Advocacy tools. Activate and engage supporters like never before with advanced filters and redirection tools to drive real impact."

This sort of thing makes me want to cancel all my charity direct debits and give the money to the ranting guy outside the Tesco Metro. At least he's not manipulative.

I hate that cunt. Lots of stories about him. How he avoided Me Too is anyone’s guess.

Lineker loves himself, no way is he stepping down by his choice. Chances are, because he's a BBC luvvie, that they're giving him a five second head start before some shit drops.

I would put money on some link between him and Al Fayad.

Starmer at the climate conference. Starmer has just announced his intention to kill the entire British economy by 2035 a new UK carbon dioxide emissions target of 81% below 1990 levels. The previous target was a something like 68% by 2030. He has also announced that he isn't going to tell people how to live their lives, but when taken in concert with other government plans for energy production, food, and transportation, it's clear that his intent is to tell everyone exactly how to live their lives in excruciating detail. This new target will require a significant curtailment of meat consumption and a general reduction in farm productivity to reduce methane emissions. It will require a mass reduction of ICE vehicles, rather than the "mere" ban on new sales. It will require a fundamental transformation of how energy is generated (and by "transformation" I mean complete destruction of the energy sector). Much of the remaining industry in the UK is high energy consumption industry like precision manufacturing, electronics, and chemical engineering. These will all leave.

All this because an idiot in the 70s blamed us for a natural temperature rise that began before the industrial revolution was even a tingle in James Watt's great grandfather's nethers.

Free Gear Keir said:
The central most important thing for me here at Cop is one, to continue to show UK leadership on climate at this critical time and we will continue to do so, to make sure that we are the enablers of the leveraging of private capital now towards the targets that need to be set, to set out own target as I have just done in relation to emissions.

But most importantly, to be clear that I see this not just as a global challenge but a global opportunity. If you were to look at where global investors are investing, they are investing in renewables and everybody knows there is a transition, an energy transition, these things happen quite rarely, once in a generation usually, perhaps a little bit longer than that where there is a global transition on energy and the lesson from history is to go into that transition with a clear plan, for a just outcome.

But also to take advantage of being a first mover in that and that is what I want us to be which is why I say there is a race on for the next generation of jobs... other countries are in that race, I want to be in it and I want to win it for the UK because that will be measured in jobs, well-paid, good, secure jobs in the UK for many years to come.
So if it's such a sure-fire investment, why are so many other countries reluctant to take part? Gosh, aren't they stupid!

I don't really understand why so many people are so focused on carbon emissions. If we want to save the environment, one the UK's last concerns should be the carbon emissions of the general public. Spending efforts to improve the way meat and dairy is made and not relying on imports of such things by supporting our farmers would be far more effective for both the economy, morale and environment.
Don't listen to Kier (and a lot of other media/government voices) using "climate change" or whatever as an excuse, it's just greenwashing.
