A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Having lived there, i'm fairly sure the only reason for Bradford to exist was to keep the New Britains from moving to Leeds, and even that has failed now. It's a real shame as there are (were) some lovely bits of the place but to look at it now it's like Karachi with worse weather.

The knock on effect is it creates a black hole for social services and disability services and schools too. So it definitely has a knockdown effect on society, the financial side alone is horrifying because you have to delegate 3/4 even 5 different services to care for one. A lot of the time these people too get chucked in care homes and left to rot and have a myriad of challenging behaviours. It sounds fucked because it goes against my code but leaving them to die quickly is a better solution like the Chinese did. These Muslim cultures are so insular that they will inbreed and then the fucks complain about services when they are a drain on it. We are at the point now where having a pension is meaningless unless you are a 0.5%er.

The issue is too there is no infrastructure in place to support this, no hospitals or care homes and surgeries are being made when the people are crying for it. In fact the NMC at their recent conference were saying that Indians are now choosing places like Australia to work and nurses and JDs are fleeing to Europe, ME or again Australia. The US is getting less attractive for professionals but one interesting number is only about 20k Brits emigrate to the states.

• Financial annihilation
• Public system collapses in unison

My background is genetics - I (luckily) don’t work in NHS clinical genetics but personally and professionally know those who do. The cost of the inbreeding in places like Bradford is astonishing. Both the human cost of suffering and the financial cost. You’re looking at huge cost a year per family when you add up intensive support, surgeries, taxis to school or whatever facility, lifelong housing and other benefits, translators, all that. Just the taxi to school and back for one kid who isn’t too disabled to attend was ten grand a year.

I know other people have mentioned the two tier NHS but when you get a local council stacked with these people as well, they tend to approve everything benefit related for their own and deny for the natives too. So there’s a cost for disabled kids and adults and carers in the wider area as well.
It’s like a black hole of need. Someone somewhere in government will have quantified the cost, it will be staggering, and the numbers will never see the light of day.

News like this make me wonder about my cousin who migrated to the UK, ostensibly for a better life. Used to hear alot about him living like a king here in Third-Worldinstan, whenever he visits. Not anymore, these days.

Information about who did it is sparse other than 2 men aged 21 and 28. We all know why that's all the info the police have released

Taxi cost gets ridiculously insane. Being able to drive would be so much cheaper it is not even funny. Like 3 times cheaper, it’s nuts. And that alone has massive impact on socials which has knock on effects. And that’s assuming people actually give a crap and go above and beyond to help you.

The thing is too its starting to creep into Birmingham too, the midwives are starting to mention it when we're in class days etc. Bradford has literally become the scouring of the Shire in what 3 decades if that. As we mentioned the knock on effects are huge and for bigger areas councils get bombarded. There was a midwifery lecturer and she was saying how in Birmingham it would be swept under the rug and nowhere near as pronounced as Bradford but now its too big to hide and the problem is the illegals and asylum seekers openly do it. So their costs quintuple and these generational lines are not even fertile either additionally they are estimated to cost the tax payer up to 2 million and the amounts are in the 00,000's already. Not only that but some of them get slung into the fostering/adoption system and cram it when innocents who were put there due to safeguarding or necessity get swallowed.

The government refuses to acknowledge it too because they are petrified of being branded as racists when you are trying to preserve a future. Christ alone in terms of nursing it requires an additional 100,000 of disabled care nurses which is the worst field because pay and prospects additionally they have to be community based to provide homecare. I have toyed with doing an academic piece about it for management stuff but honestly I don't want to make myself a target by that group because they are so deranged.

Oh yeah @Otterly at a council job I was going to take my local council was chucking 85% of their income into care alone, I was gobsmacked by it.
