A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Ah yes, water quality is truly the noblest of issues and not dozens of stabbings and rapes in rural areas in the last week. As mentioned earlier in my town I have noticed on the commute a large spike of black men suddenly appearing out of nowhere along with the warbling of their tribal cries. It's come to the point where commuting (nurse) since they love stabbing medics clearly has even got me antsy. I am considering just moving to the city where I can at least bleed into the crowds than stick out.

The torrent in crime and actual crime not shouting obscenities on Twitter is actually concerning me greatly, still got 3 years of this before I can run.

Also Rachel Retard Reeves extradentare announced last night that social housing is effectively dead. CONGRATS you absolute dumb cunt. What she did was have it so housing providers can raise rents above the cap of 20% to any amount, absolute fucking lunacy. Guess who usually lives in social housing Rachel? It's largely public sector workers like teachers and nurses (younger). I am gobsmacked because the migrants she so loves then get put in social housing, don't work and claim full rent payment, costing the government more. Tax then plummets because any professional worth their salt will emigrate or be fucking homeless.

There is chatter online already from this class of lower middle class professionals arranging campaigns to boycott rent. The pace of this speedrun by Labour is honestly dizzying and they wonder why people are getting more pissed off by the day. You drip feed communism not shove it down their throat like a cake iced with shit instead of frosting. Can any of the well versed posters think of something more extreme because in my time I have never seen a more inept government.

There’s also the fact that they’re doing this so fast in a background of everything being almost falling apart as it is. If you put a few rubbish policies in a fat year people can deal with it. Them doing it when things are already bad is dire.
They do indeed seem to be speedrunning the French Revolution.

I might be wrong but didn't Labour air attack ads about people freezing to death over winter giving numbers and claiming every single one of those were due to Tory policies?

Somehow I suspect some not dissimilar ads will be airing this winter with the added caveat "and these are the people who said they would change it. Who knew the change they meant was more people dying?"

Labour are having to accelerate because the honeymoon period has ended less than a month in. Even the Private Eye cover this fortnight is taking a pot shot at them.

That's the problem all the major systems are on the brink of collapse and once that happens, I don't think we could comprehend the public response. None of the members of government can even think or even predict what will happen because they live in dissonance and pass the hot pocket until it implodes. Starmer is probably that individual because his policies are making it come to head sooner. We talk shit at Sunak but at least he knew the delicate balance, christ even Hunt was the only surviving member of that cabinet and honestly he wanted to cut debt but his spending was everywhere.

I follow on from my post on the DWP and I talked to a mutual who works in the local job centre (dog walker friend lol). Now bare in mind this is a larger town but she said between about 5000 so customers there are 2 people part time and they are not experienced. They too have to assist the local city and that base is about 35,000 between an additional 3 part timers and those 3 have to also assist in the larger town next door to them and that is 15,000 also and they have no employees there. Between 5 24 hour per week their base is 55,000. They can barely hire full timers because they quit and they cannot budget that many. She is fairly senior there of about 20 years and said senior staff were fleeing like rats and said the new staff don't have the experience so a lot of things are being missed out or things are totally incorrect.

The reason why I was doing this because on my other job a senior was having difficulties and lives alone so I offered to assist because I have experience at least doing paperwork like that. I was waiting on the phone for 55 minutes for just an enquiry about the exact type of payments they were getting because no online portal tells you directly.

One of my friends additionally who used to be a DI in the police said there has been so many resignations from senior officers that the station in a city of 250,000 has one fucking DI.

The NHS on my side alone I could write multiple dissertations and be nowhere complete, the migrant workers are the tip of the iceberg but now with the nursing union, the jd union and the doctors union on the warpath. The reason I hate the migrant nurses is because the fuckers snaked us when we went on strike. They set our position back so far we cannot even get what we want not even when it collapses. It's why new grads and seniors hate migrant nurses with all their being. One of my colleagues a new grads said if we had won she would not have to be on Universal Credit because the tax ripped her below living wage. In the hospital I work at now there is a clear divide but the fuckers deserved it. Basically they took working on agency pay for a week to not strike. I saw a Nigerian nurse cry who worked through the strike about poor work quality and laughed at her and said we fucking told you.

The problem is the media covers all this up and refuses to talk about how bad it really is. A tax rise will not go over well at all, at my old work place staff were furious at the boss when they took away their xmas bonus but said no adjusted pay raise. That was in a predominately middle class workplace too.

It's hard to take any one who talks like this seriously because everyone is whining and saying they're not being treated fairly. But the actual take home pay is far from bad in most cases. How many of these people would agree if you said "get rid of all the niggers" and how many would run to the police and try to ruin your life?

Social housing was meant to be a safety net and not cheap rent for the public sector mafia.

That’s one of the problems.

Tell them to be normal people and rent or buy like everyone else.

Plus they’re usually fat and I would not have sex with them.

Everyone trying to live like a Jew is a problem. They complain there's no social mobility and they can't afford anything while mismanaging their money. How many people currently have 5 or more media subscription services for shit they barely even watch? You could justify Netflix as a single thing 10 years ago but today there's never anything to watch on them and there's so many better options and free services any way.
 
While I concur that nursing and teaching in some areas are "well paid", that is with seniority or diversification of skills. A grad nurse after tax and not applying council tax and bills gets about 18k and a grad teacher is somewhat the same and what is worse with teaching especially at school and college level you are forced part time since their budgets are abysmal. I am not going to lie though being a nurse is cushy to an extent I work 3 days a week 12 hours and clock out and the odd extra shift, it's perfect whilst doing a doctorate.

I will say I have not worked with the type of nurses that you spoke of though but I am at a very good university and I have been very impressed with how apolitical the staff were. I said teachers and nurses because they for me are the perfect area for me to describe lower middle class (grad level). Teaching though is a trap its notorious to pivot from as you are judged as a coward for leaving the profession (its very toxic) and honestly I need to apologise because I am in that field I was being myopic.

I absolutely agree money mismanagement is the crux of the problem and its the hypocrisy of our country. We are urged to be consumers and then on the back end slapped on the wrist by Retard Rachel for spending too much. Then the dumb bitch is urging people to spend to fund muh growth. I can't think about it too much to be honest because it is baffling how the country is so Maoist yet consumerist. It's why I stop reading the news at this time because it is so depressing.
