A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I'll concede that the named doctors do not sound like mayo ghouls. But if you think you could not get the average white employee at any of these places to write a fake sick note when there were no consequences involved please tell me where you're employed. Most places I've ever worked people will always take the path of least effort rather than follow sensible rules like "don't do that shit" and that's true whether their skin complexion is milk or not.
I've seen doctors reject writing sick notes on bullshit. But you know these brown doctors are helping other brown people scam the system and no one will call them out on it for fear of being called a racist.

Read the first sentence of the article.
Private GPs are side hustling by writing sick notes for workers for £25-£55 per note.
They're doing this for money rather than race related stuff. The barrier to whether or not the applicants get these is based off paying for them rather than a photo of their thumbs to confirm complexion. I know "the only colour they care about is green" is an old joke but from the looks of things it applies here, especially since it's come from the Express. If they were asked to show skin colour for a discount or got a better result using a fake foreign name rather than a generic UK one then the reporter would gladly have included that in the article.

It's seemingly offshore GPs doing these notes. Not certain if you have seen the thread on Mermaids (UK trans charity) but a lot of those affiliated with that do the same because those GPs are not held to the same already low standard as the NHS and if paid will write pretty much whatever is asked for.

I didn't disagree with any of that. I said they're also helping exploit the system for their ethnic group. They always do.

What Blair inherited from the Tories was a dying industrial base, collapsing infrastructure, massive government debt, a shortage of practically skilled workers, and a population spike caused by immigration. His response to this was to massively increase immigration, spend even more government money on things that didn't resolve the infrastructure problems, divert the workforce into pointless university courses, and regulate much of the remaining industry out of existence. He then followed up by creating what was, at the time, the most intrusive police state the country had ever seen, and signed us up to a prolonged military conflict while cutting the size of the military. Blair cannot be given even the slightest benefit of the doubt when it comes to just how shit this country has become.
I'm not giving Blair the benefit of the doubt but lets get real Thatcher was using the exact same tactics on the far left as Starmer does

Maybe so, but we weren't talking about Starmer, were we? We were talking about Blair fucking up the country on a scale not seen since the small disagreement of 1939 to 1945 and you trying to pin the blame for that on Thatcher (apparently forgetting six years of John Major), when it was clearly his own insane policies that did it. Everything since then, every retarded policy decision made by every subsequent government, can be blamed on the fundamental constitutional and institutional changes Blair made during his government. They are either continuing things he did, or adding more layers of retardation on top of things he did.

Absolutely correct in my experience of about 15 years working alongside both, they are both lazy. I think the exception is Indian doctors both male and female they are pretty litigious and OK to work around. Indian and Pakis in the care sector though, some of the laziest fuckers I have encountered and they mostly work nights to shirk but at least they do the bare minimum most black men in the care and nursing sector are beyond useless. I cannot count how many times I have shouted go away to one because they are making the situation worse or standing there like a fucking retard. In psych especially, if someone really flips out and it was the same person so it was predictable, they would stand there gormless and softly say "go to your room". I remember this one incident where one of them said in their native language, that was a very interesting meeting. Most if not all sisters are so pissed off with migrant nurses that it is a very well maintained secret of their disdain. I like how they are making staff even more racist by enforcing it too, I have seen a myriad of off the cuff remarks given by the most unsuspecting women.

Newspeak usage dates back to 1940s, little angry faggot. That just means Brits have been getting played in demographic shell games for decades. You taking that as a W is just weird.
I think it's more that going back centuries into peak Empire time we'd always referred to anyone from the entire continent as Asian (pajeets, chinks, malays etc), but as most of the exposure we had was with the sub-continent types it just became more a term for them than the wider continent. I think for the yanks it's probably the other way around, they had more contact with east asians so they got the term asian applied to them instead. Calling them a paki is much more recent as the country didn't even exist until after ww2.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, there is literally no difference between an Indian and Pakistani. That's literally just some bullshit we made up back in the day, after drawing an arbitrary line down the country to stop the Muslims and the Hindus fighting eachother.
No Briton was really involved in the Partition aside from essentially granting what the Muslim League was asking for in a vain attempt to stave off total collapse on the Subcontinent after the withdrawal. Jinnah and the Pakis were the ones who pushed for it, agitated for it, etc. Any attempt to blame the British for what was ultimately a forced-upon decision by the Muslim League is dishonesty by the Pajeets and Pakis. If Partition hadn't happened they would've folded into sectarian violence that would've lasted to this day.

Tony Blair should be subject to best Korean style family obliteration. 3 generations. One before, one after if you can get it. A fuckimg deamon wearing human skin in a poor facsimilie of the real thing.

given they were a protected class during the covid times.
They never were, they were just held up as one, as a cudgel to beat people with. Somewhere way back in the coof megathread there’s a post with discussion of what emotional leverage works best on different groups of people to get them to obey . It was stuff like:
-for those who are afraid of everything, tell them comply or die
- set out clear rules
-threaten penalties
-threaten future job ability
-appeal to emotion generally
-for people who don’t care about themselves, appeal to emotion specifically (you WILL kill granny!’)
- for people who aren’t scared for themselves but have morality, appeal to the greater good etc
For each group there was a stick, and for the kill granny group the emotional stick was that if you didn’t obey and say you don’t care if you get sick, well yeah but you’ll hurt others.
It was literally a behavioural insights team job. They didn’t give a shit about old people - watch what people do, not what they say.
1. They left old people in homes without sufficient care
2. They often refused oxygen
3. They discharged covid positive patients straight back into nursing homes
4. They isolated old people and stopped them from seeing social and family lifelines.
The current government has just stripped the winter fuel allowance and will probably take the triple lock in October as well. They do not care one whit about old people

No one really cares about old people. There's very few reasons to spend time with an old person that isn't crime related or being your parent. It sounds cruel but it's the truth. They used to be an essential part of the household but now they're babysitters for Gen X to dump their single parent kids on so they can party until they become too useless for that. Then they're stuck in a care home and visited occasionally to ask if Jimbo is feeding them gruel properly between meaningless small talk.

If we get this situation sorted out I hope we see an end to care homes for anything but those with severe mental or physical health problems and old people are brought back into the family. Kids need a relationship with their grandparents and to know where they come from and who keeps the family history. Most adults today don't even know their parents lives let alone before them.

You'd think the empire would be more keen to draw a distinction between the chinks (who have a history of being assfucked by the west) and the mudslimes (who have a history of launching surprise assfuckings against west). Knowing your servants from your enemies and all that.

Well we did, East Asians just got called Orientals or by their nationality as a way to differentiate them from the sub-continent hoards. Kinda like how they just called all the middle-easterners Turks/Arabs for the longest time too.

5 years of "but the tories" despite most of the problems we face now were given to the tories by Blair.

They had fourteen years and most of the problems Blair faced were created by Thatcher in the first place

you trying to pin the blame for that on Thatcher (apparently forgetting six years of John Major)

I'm going to speedrun this: every bit of Britain's current woes is clearly the fault of William Pitt the Elder. Bloody Whigs.

I disagree. It was Lord Palmerston's fault.

e: Meanwhile, on twatter, there's a campaign starting up called "Flood the streets", demanding mass protests about water quality. I'm sure that the police will knock these rioters on the head the moment they start blocking roads and disparaging government policy.

30 years of privatised water have brought us to this state; one we can in fact blame on Thatcher.

I’d like to see this too. Realistically, unless there’s one parent at home and one working, caring for the elderly at home is beyond most of us. As well as Uk homes being the size of rabbit hutches.
I’d be very happy with a switch to larger multi generation homes and multi generational living. And a mum at home.
(Obviously you can’t do 24 hour nursing care for the severely demented, I’m talking about the ‘old and doddery but still got all your marbles’ stage )

Even just living nearby would be enough for most people, most of the time, but it seems its become a cultural norm to move as far away from your parents as possible. One of the reasons I moved where I am now is because it puts me in 5 minutes walking distance of my dad. Working from home means I can pop over and check on him whenever I want, but even being able to go over a couple of times a week is better than nothing. I'm never putting him in a home. If it comes to the point he can't be at home by himself, I'll find a way. Maybe keep him in the shed. Nice little couch, TV, pile of books, and some tools to tinker with and he'd be happy as anyone.
