A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Maybe this Desmond guy turned out to be a UKIP sympathizer so his testimony was discarded on basis of conflict of interest. Or since it's a breaking story, something got lost in translation and he meant to say all along that he only saw people detaining the attacker, not disarming him. Who knows.

Since he seems to be a local street performer, it won't be hard for someone to track him down and film a clarifying mini-interview with him to post on X or something.

Curious. Since he's some kind of street performer, I wonder if he showed up and bullshitted some story just for exposure. As biased as the media is, I can't imagine they would invent a story from whole cloth when there is a presumably very easy to find guy walking around in a Darth Vader suit with credible eyewitness testimony to the contrary.

As an aside, man how cool would it be if he was the dude that stopped it? I'd laugh my ass off at a dude in a Vader costume beating the brakes off of someone.

Are you sure it's not just moved down the page? Because the URL you gave was their live update page (and they have a separate one up on their main page now as well). I loaded your URL a few minutes ago and see the text which looks the same to me. It's just some way down because there have been further updates since. Unless I've missed something.

I followed the link another poster had given for the same page, which had completely different text when I checked. It had changed again for another poster, they took a screenshot with different text.

Upon checking now it's back again though - very odd. I understand live pages are dynamic and I had scrolled right to the point of where it had been before (around 15:30 I think).
 
Blatant false flag. Abdullah was sitting in a disguised police van nearby waiting for the signal to jump out and create a narrative.

It's all a bit odd isn't it. How convenient would it be for the authorities/MSM to be able to run a front page story about a white british attacker being quelled by a hero muslim? Bonus points if the attacker has far-right affiliations and the muslim is a refugee.

The video is leicester square, at least, or just off it, in front of a place called TWG tea on swiss court. I'm guessing Albanian, but I won't rule out some other variety of mentally ill idiot (because let's face it, you have to be mentally ill to stab kids, it's just that some ethnicities and religious backgrounds seem to have a much higher incidence of such illness for some reason).
