A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Plenty of them coming in on care visas not to work in hospitals but to do community care jobs:

A couple of years ago my friend's daughter took a job in a care home while at university. She and another girl were the only white care staff; it was entirely comprised of Pakistanis, Somalis, and Nigerians. They could barely speak a word of English between them, but would talk amongst themselves in their own racial cliques.

To make matters worse, this was a care home specialising in dementia patients. Imagine those poor patients, already confused and vulnerable, unable to communicate in English with those looking after them, becoming even more confused because they can't understand what they're saying.
She ended up leaving as the Pakistanis bullied her relentlessly and management (also Pakistani) didn't care.

This is where the immigrants end up - caring for our vulnerable elderly.

They also make studious mention of the selfless hero Abdullah and use the same oddly stock-looking photograph of him. The attacker is still not explicitly and repeatedly said to be white, so it's probably reasonable to assume at this stage that it was a Person of Diversity.

Joy Akan, who also works for Toot buses, filmed the suspect on his phone after his arrest. The video showed a lightly built man in a black T-shirt with an Abbey Road logo on the front. He was wearing black tracksuit trousers. The video was time stamped at 11.41am.

There is video of the suspect, so his appearance is known. In spite of this, the media are just describing his build and clothing. Person of Diversity confirmed.

BBC says Desmond saw to people detain (not tackle) the attacker, without quoting him directly, but quote him directly only where he says how horrible the attack was.

Desmond, 45, who performs as Darth Vader on the square "every day" said he saw two people detain the attacker.

He added that the woman and girl appeared to be family or known to each other as they had been together before the attack happened.

He added: "It was so terrible, I've never seen a thing like that. I was heartbroken, I saw the woman was screaming with all her strength."

By not quoting Desmond directly (assuming the Daily Mail article is accurate and Desmond isn't lying), the BBC Article makes Abdullah's retelling coherent, as he says he was the only one to jump on the attacker, and was helped by passerbys only to keep the attacker down.

Abdullah said: "The moment I saw it I just jumped on that guy and grabbed his hand... and put him down on the floor and kicked the knife away from him.

He said a couple of other men also came over to help and held the man down for "four to five" minutes, adding he decided to take action because "I had no time, I just didn't think".

I just want to say, it takes balls to see an aggro dude with a knife attacking a random person on the street and without hesitation just go hands on to stop the threat. Whether it was the originally reported Muslim guy or two NORF FC Englishmen, that's pretty heroic and they deserve credit where credit is due.

Quick Edit: Seems the quoted party was intending to go help but the two gentlemen beat him to it. I shit on the UK a lot, but I want to be very clear, I'm genuinely impressed that, from the accounts we have, literally every person around saw this happening and the immediate thought was "oh God I need to get over there and help put that guy down." Massive whitepill. Fellow Britkiwis should be proud of their countrymen.

I'd rather not jump to conclusions right off. If it's some crazy asshole being a crazy asshole and literally everyone around him decided to take out the fucking trash, that's a lot different than if this guy had pre-planned to attack a white family. Although statistically it will be some flavor of nigger or "Asian male," that is responsible, I'd rather have confirmation first. While the most recent rioting is very much justified, the talking point of "THEY'RE RIOTING OVER MUSLIM STABBING KIDS BUT ACTUALLY BLACK CHRISTIAN!" Has been very damaging.

Seems like it was some literal schizo:

A shop manager told the Mirror he saw the suspected perpetrator 90 minutes before an 11-year-old girl and a woman were attacked with a knife near the LEGO shop.
He told the newspaper:

I saw the man standing there walking around and talking to himself. He looked homeless to me. We see these lots everyday so we can recognise them but I hadn't seen him before.

Another man who works opposite the scene, and who did not want to be identified, said he saw the suspect earlier in the day.
He said: 'He was standing, doing nothing, eating and talking to himself as I saw.'
He filmed a man being arrested outside the TWG Tea shop and said he recognised him from the morning.

When Finland had it's first mehmet stabbing spree the media was focusing on an arab helping the injured and chasing the stabber. Although the only evidence of an actual helper was a white dude in a fucking stormfront t-shirt.
