A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Yes. I believe the 'white man', that is, those with the British/European mindset of a peaceful, lawful, God-fearing nation; one of unity, freedom and prosperity, need to be exterminated to help usher in the digital social utopia/communism.

The 'White-man' has never stood for tyranny or oppression, even from his own brothers - see 1776. The white-man doesn't die to foreign hands, instead, he launches crusades, purges and persecutions against those who hinder, halt or interfere with the spreading of true science, social and political advancements - see every European empire that trotted outside of Europe.

Unfortunately for TPBP- whoever they may be, the white-man is a pesky menace who needs removing. How then does the white-man get removed? By pitting him, brother vs brother - see WW1 and WW2. So effective was that at wiping out swathes of white-men, that the same tactics are being deployed again. The biggest lie ever told was that the Nazis were evil. They weren't, they were just efficient and not very subtle, typical Germans.

Took a look East, see white man vs white man, a war pushed on whites by whites for the benefit of non whites. Ironically, the only one who we can look to for inspiration is Ghandi, who famously said "Wut? fuq dat, ain't no1 got time for dis shit." When it came to the British. He dealt more damage to the empire without raising a fist or firing a bullet than any man in history.

The hippies in the 60's and Frankie Goes to Hollywood were right. Make love, not war.

You're some variety of shit-skin, aren't you? No, our indigenous poors are NOT just as likely as the racially inferior Third-World imports (from the slave days to today) to commit crime.

Poor-as-fuck hillbillies (like JD Vance's family - I did read the memoir) are more likely than midde-class whites to commit crime, but they commit far less crime than even middle-class niggers, on average.

I'm willing to bet the same is true when it comes to yobs vs Pakis.

Somewhere in my meme collection is the table of crime stats by US zip code and income. The poorest 20% of White-majority areas have a lower violent crime rate than the richest 20% of black-majority areas.

When it first made the rounds, "fact checkers" pointed out that black income distribution is lower. Problem is, we're not talking about adjacent quintiles where that difference would matter...

It's Appalachian towns whose entire industries were sent abroad, making $20k/yr, versus communities in DC-VA-MD on their fourth generation of turbo affirmative action, where the entire black population have 6-figure government jobs they are never at risk of losing.

Top 1% of the world in terms of stable environment and affluence, but still more violent than the former.

The Nazis were idiots who bought into an ideology that was both ridiculous and insanely self-destructive, and they only got into power because the French decided to destroy Prussian culture as vengeance for the Franco-Prussian war without stopping to think about what would replace it. Once again the French ruined everything for the rest of us.

Hundreds of people seem to have traveled there for the purpose of trashing a mosque and fighting with police.
Lots of comments saying they have been botted into doing this via social media, and that there’s no evidence the attacker was in fact a Muslim or immigrant.

And there is no further official information on that I can see on that other than the “born in Cardiff” statement.

I'm an American.

And I live in an area that has very low crime; versus an area adjacent that has very high crime. The difference is economic, and the black/hispanic/white ratio is almost identical to the adjacent area. They are identical by 1 percentage point, so its apples and apples.

The difference is economic.

Any American will tell you to go to a poor neighborhood and whether it be black or white, Indian, Iranian, Chinese or icelandic, my best wishes after 11PM in what you find yourself in for. Poor = crime. They are by a huge margin (like triple, quadruple) going to be more criminal.

Go get rid of them and you'll reduce you murder, robbery, rape, child abuse by over 75%.

To be entirely fair this particular vermin likely got into the country long before Starmer became PM. However that's admittedly a moot point as him and his party support the policies that enable him and his ilk to enter the country unchecked in the first place.

All involved deserve the noose.

The whole "Born in Cadiff" thing is so meaningless. He's 17 and was probably born right off the boat from France. If anything it's even worse because it shows that migrants don't integrate, and that MUH SOCIOECONOMIC FACTORS are bollocks.

While I can understand the anger seeing this all I can think is what a bunch of idiots.

The police are already claiming it's a group of edl and the lefties blaming, Robinson, Farage and anyone else remotely right wing.
All their achieving is looking just as bad as the roma gypos in leeds and the pakis in rotherham. So now all the left wing media and fanatics have the perfect reason to excuse the immigrants and broadcast what awful criminal racists anyone right of centre is.

I don't pretend to have all the answers but torching police vans and smashing up innocent peoples communities ain't it, just cause theirs a mosque there doesn't mean it's exclusively Muslim in the local houses.

Where has she heard this? “TikTok.”

Some said it was a baby and he fell accidentally. Some said it happened on Friday, others said it was the weekend. Some said it happened in Bradford and that it was several weeks earlier.

But no version of the story is true.

West Yorkshire police said there was no such incident in Leeds or Bradford, and the local ambulance service has no record of it either. There is no photo or video and no first-hand accounts. It is simply a conspiracy theory that has taken particular hold in marginalised groups.

A week on from the unrest in which a police car was flipped on its side, riot police pelted with missiles and a doubledecker bus reduced to a burnt-out wreck, concerns about the trustworthiness of the authorities are still rife among marginalised communities.

The disorder, triggered by police helping social services remove children from a Roma family into care, may have been short-lived – it seems nobody in Harehills is keen to repeat it – but the issues that sparked it have not gone away.

Roma groups said there were plenty of examples of discrimination by social services and police. In the case of the Harehills family, complaints were made about their social worker, who was later removed from the case.

Lazar said more training was needed for police and social services, but more also needed to be done to help Roma families integrate into communities and feel welcomed and respected.

“Some of them don’t behave to UK standards, but they need support,” she added. “They’re lovely when they receive support, but if someone is saying to them ‘You’re the worst,’ they will behave like they are the worst.”
