A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Gave up after 10 minutes. There were a bunch of factual errors that he uncritically repeated in just the first chapter, including our relative wealth (which was not nearly as high as he claimed) and the thing about NHS waiting lists (which were manipulated to fuck and back; the reason you had to book with a GP on the same day was because the Blair government enacted legislation that prevented them from booking appointments more than two days ahead). He's a child, blaming the Bad People who are currently in charge, unable or unwilling to understand that the problems he ascribes to the actions of the most recent government have their roots in Black Wednesday and the subsequent election of Blair's Labour, or in policies first enacted in the 60s and 70s. I'm sure he describes a great many problems with the country, which I'm sure in turn you relish for your own reasons, but the premise of his argument - that everything is the fault of the current government - is fundamentally flawed, so I reject everything he says.

Our court system allowed a literally demented pervert to harass Null for years with lawsuits, while also directly attacking the site with his tugboat funds. Null had no viable recourse against all of this, so he's been understandably bitter about it ever since.

Haven't watched all of it - no doubt some accurate statements in there. But he wraps it all up in a loaded attack on the Conservatives when Labour are at least as much to blame along with the simple fact that Britain is no longer a great power - its manufacturing has all been off-shored, its energy costs are through the roof due to under investment over decades and a focus on "Renewables" that Labour are even more responsible for than the Tories. He has a go at the Tories for their measures to reduce the National debt but that has to be done. Bongland isn't the USA and the Great British Pound isn't the world's reserve currency - they can't just print as much as they like knowing the rest of the world has to buy it.

There's still a tonne of graft and waste going on in the UK govt. don't get me wrong. But most of it is party-independent. The Civil Service is its own power and you can in no small part thank Blair for that and his unleashing of Andrew Campbell to politicise the Civil Service and change it from being the cadre of servants it was meant to be.

This guy is just laying everything at the door of the Tories.

The country's been dead set on this overall path since Blair got in in 1997 (or really, since the war ended, it's just sped up exponentially since 97). The Tory policies have just been like turning off the music and ambient lighting in a smack den - laying bare the dismal scene for what it is but the fundamentals are the same (in this analogy the lethal drug is our immigration pyramid scheme economy).

And that's probably one of the biggest problems we as a nation face. No matter who we elect on 4th July, the civil service will act roughly as they always have and be resistant to any real direction change.

It doesn't matter if Reform win every seat and use that power to replace every Lord in the house of Lords with Reform supporters. Nothing will change.

The civil service will resist it to the death, they are a totally captured institution and until that is (somehow) undone the people finding their way here illegally will still find a way to get housing, benefits, and NHS care while the rest of us are left to rot because that's what the powers actually running the country want to happen.
 
I'm not watching 90 minutes of leftist sperging, but I went to some random bits and it's rubbish.

* The Government has halved the money it gives to councils - I don't know if this is literally true, but local councils are at least supposed to pretend to be self-sufficient
* Houses are expensive - they are, but I'm betting that he doesn't address why demand is rising (most population growth is due to immigration)
* Most of his taxes goes towards old-age welfare - he's misread the graph, it's actually 13%. And the Government are literally the only people who claim that the state pension is welfare, everybody else pretends it's contribution-based

One hundred percent. I look at this guy and think he's stupid, because he gassed himself. I've been meaning to test out the AdBlue to NO3 path, but I don't want to gas myself.

Why did he build a shed in his garden for gas? Surely, a van or something would be a better choice.

Null is literally just some nerd who fell afoul of the regime. Why would you expect him to have a fundamental grasp of everything which happens abroad? In my opinion, he should recognise one thing - the American culture is the British culture. Imagine if instead of an ostensibly foreign country, it was Ohio - in Ohio, the government arrested several thousand people for offensive tweets. Britain does actually have "constitutional rights" - it was bureaucracy which ended our freedom of speech, freedom of arms, freedom of markets... and piece by piece, it was cut away and centralised.

We have a government, infested with radicals, responsible for so many crimes that practically all of the party members on both major parties know that if they lose an inch of power, they will be hanged in public. They're not "arguing" - they're "attacking" - and if he really wants to get back at the British state, he should do what he did with KF - there isn't any site for Brits to actually talk, without the constant threat of the police and a strong paranoia about touts and traitors.

KF is good enough, but an open forum for the UK itself is definitely needed. We don't have any real forums of our own because men with guns will stop you from doing it.

There's a reason why so many doctors and engineers end up emigrating to the USA. For my field, the peak pay in the UK is £80,000, average £40,000 - for the USA, it's $100,000 to $250,000. You're lying to yourself if you think Americans need a coping mechanism.

I think they're stupid, naive retards who have no idea what's coming down the pipeline. They're being fattened up at the expense of the rest of the white world, since they actually can fight against it. So, the American side strokes their hair and tells them how much better than Europe they are - waiting to slide in the knife. The same shit which they pushed in the UK for years - a strong, independent, law-abiding nation - while they cover up more and more crime.

Why do you think you're basing anything off of truth? You've never made an actual truthful comment in your life. Like others have said this isn’t one party making the place a dump, it’s both of them. Labour opened the doors to mass immigration in 97, and spent us into a hole, and the tories have sold off most of the national infrastructure to their private chums. The nhs has been teetering on the brink of failure for years. We’ve got potholes round our way that you could bath a dog in they’re so deep. The trash gets collected once in a blue moon. Everything has doubled in price. We were locked down during the Covid thing in a way that was dystopian to say the least.
The entire island floats on a sea of extremely high quality coal and we closed all the mines bar a couple, and didn’t even mothball them. We should be energy independent on clean coal.
Our water industry was sold off and instead of putting the money into fixing it they pay themselves huge amounts and pump raw sewage into waterways where I used to swim, and now can’t. They’re also so incompetent that during coof we were days away from running out of some of the key chemical ingredients needed to keep the drinking water clean.
We closed the steel industry, which made the best quality mass produced steel in the world. We closed the shipyards, we closed everything that makes stuff and now we are just a shell. We’ve been flooded with the detritus of the third world. Everything is dirty and crowded
The point about the civil service is spot on - Whitehall needs scraping out like a gourd. I dont know if you’ve seen the original ‘yes minister’ but it’s spot on.

It makes me furious, because Britain used to be absolutely great. It really did. But it’s far more than just blue team bad, red team good. It’s all two cheeks of the same arse, all working against the common people, to enrich themselves and push whatever weird ideology they have.
