A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Truth is offensive.
I'm not a Suella fan but the outrage to this is insane. Mostly because they're trying to bury what she actually said but still.
The government are freezing her out for it. Slimy cunts. I reckon she'll be gone by the end of the month.

Likely so, let's wait till the other side of this weekend to predict anything. There's no way the pro-Palestine lot are going to be able to resist flexing their muscles given what's on. They'll be doing some hefty vandalism but I'm still betting they'll go too far and cause some serious injuries.

Suella Braverman: Rishi Sunak still has confidence in home secretary

I'm getting mixed messages now.
Article states:
"Met Police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said protests may only be stopped if there is a threat of serious disorder, and that the "very high threshold" has not been reached".

Is Rowley the only one in the UK that doesn't think there will be serious disorder on both sides of the protest?

I can only think the "very high threshold" will be reached, and by that time, it will be too late to stop it.

@teriyakiburns I dunno. Sacking the one he personally salvaged from a scandal and installed back into her former position seems like a big mistake. It's a no loss situation for him. If the pro-hamas crowd doesn't riot, then whatever. If they do him and Suella are in prime position to talk about how they tried to save the two minutes silence but were thwarted by danger hairs.

The current story, unfortunately being provided by the usual institutions, seems to be that he was aware of the article but sign off had not been given on it in the format it was currently in. Likely it had been through multiple revisions before it hit the form it ended up published in.

I suspect Rishi's perspective is she maybe could have refined the story more but ultimately they can't lose any harder next election. And honestly the police deserve the accusations of bias so they lose little in terms of voter's perspective so with that seed planted as the protests get more violent the police's failure to act will be seen as something Labour support.

Another possibility is more civil servant fuckery, either giving Suella the impression she had the go ahead or delaying replies till she had to go ahead as is.

Do you think that the police officers that will be policing the protest and counter protest agree with what they are told to do during these protests? Like fuck do they.

The police are now nothing more than pawns in the political point scoring system.

If Met Cheif Rowley thinks the protest groups will do as asked, he is a bigger waste of space that I ever thought.

Only because Islam doesn't like the gays and the UK police force are the biggest faggots and nonces in the entire world, bar none. Also they're niggers.

Have you seen the diversity hires? The quantity of four foot nothing teenage lesbian nanas trying, and failing, to Police speaks volumes.

They'll be far too busy discussing how the concept of justice is fundamentally islamaphobic or remembering to breathe to consider anything else.

God the DWP being able to use banks to spy on people really concerns me because of how easy it'll be to abuse. They're looking for any excuse to get the "wrong" people off of their benefit system right now, it's fucking scary.

Word of advice: Take £20-£50 out of your account in cash every week regardless of if you're on benefits or not, fellow Bongers. They can't do shit if you aren't paying via a bank card.

Treat it like every takeaway in the land. 2/3rds spending on the books, 1/3rd off the books and in the pocket.
If you do nothing on the books they know. If you go by the book you're a fool.

I've been observing random corners of the internet, to get an idea of the annointed position on braverman. The consensus amongst the great and good is this: She's now an absolute racist, who hates the people coming across the channel on small boats because they're brown and hates hamas for the same reason.

Aalso, apparently, those boats are 100% legal, so she and sunnak are breaking the law by trying to stop them. Sunnak is also a racist who hates brown people.

People wonder why I drink.

Prostitution isn't actually illegal in the UK despite what Mumsnet would like. Only some of the circumstances around it like pimping ("living off immoral earnings") or soliciting on the streets.

It's probably not even true. The claim is based on a survey of approximately 1700 students across the entire country, from an organisation called "save the student". I can't find the methodology, but it's very likely that they sliced and diced until they got the percentages they wanted, then extrapolated to the whole student population to get their 56000 figure. They were almost certainly working from a biased initial sample.
