A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Not duh at all.

"NAME has been suspended for this fixed period because on October 11 NAME was persistently defiant" isn't natural English. The second time it's almost certainly a pronoun, and if it's been changed to "she" it was presumably originally "he".

"ABDUL has been suspended for this fixed period because on October 11 ABDUL was persistently defiant" is reasonably natural English, and this is precisely how I would expect it to be written if it were in an official document of some sort. It would be preferred to use a name rather than a pronoun in all cases to avoid any possibility of confusion, which may be unlikely in that specific case but would be possible if there were other persons involved.

I will agree that the story seems somewhat bizarre though, why would a girl be denied access to the girl's toilets and be mandated to use the Unisex toilets? (Which shouldnt exist, particularly not in a fucking secondary school if they're "communal" and cubicle based rather than being a singular toilet in its own dedicated room)

I'll suggest three options in order of likelihood:

  1. The toilet was a singular one, and was close to the classroom. The Girl's toilet was in a different block, and the teacher assumed the girl was going to skive off and waste time by going to a toilet on the other side of the school, and so insisted the girl use the closer toilet. A non-story if it were a single lockable bathroom as many schools genuinely do have. A problem if they're communal.
  2. The school is trying to force all students to use unisex facilities on some gay inclusion basis, so trannies don't get left out.
  3. The girl was a tranny and the tutor was Based. (Vanishingly unlikely, this would have been stated in the article in some fashion, and the tutor would have immediately have lost his job)

You don't need to develop conspiracy theories to explain this. Refurbishing school single-sex toilets into unisex (funny how there is money for that! I guess replacing RAAC is less of a priority!) has been happening in Bonglang for some time and made news when the pushback hit TikTok:

Teen Girl Hospitalized After Being Attacked In Unisex School Bathroom

Brennan explained that a teenage boy had kicked the toilet cubicle door open to take photographs of her daughter while she was using the facilities. He kicked the door so hard that it hit the teen in the face, leaving her with marks on her arm and a large cut on her forehead.
(...)
“It is an ongoing problem at that school, there are unisex toilets so girls and boys have to share and the boys go in and take photos of the girls, kick the doors down and there are no locks on the doors so they are going over to the cubicles to take photos and videos which is a massive concern,” Brennan explained.

The school Brennan’s daughter attends is not the only facility to implement unisex or gender neutral bathroom facilities.

Schools across the United Kingdom are opting to replace single sex toilets with unisex toilets, despite ongoing protests from parents and students alike.

Schoolgirls in particular have organized protests and in some cases even vandalized school property to make clear their opposition to the new mixed-sex facilities. Many of these acts of protest have been documented and uploaded onto the social media app TikTok by the students themselves. Students often use TikTok to help coordinate their activism. The videos of these protests, which often rack up hundreds of thousands of views, have inspired students at other schools to do the same.

Most recently, one school suspended 34 students after they protested unisex toilets and posted videos of the debacle to TikTok. Students at Mountain Ash Comprehensive in Wales skipped classes and triggered fire alarms as they joined in the protests being co-ordinated on social media around England and Wales.

See also the article the Reduxx reporting is based on:
“They still have toilets for girls and boys but they are not always in use. Only the unisex toilets are open all the time. People do not know this has been brought in very slyly.

Toilet policy, whatever that might mean, was acknowledged as an issue last year: https://brunepark.gfmat.org/friends-of-gfm-qa-8-march/, https://archive.ph/zQ7FK

New toilets (presumably the unisex ones) were put in in June: https://brunepark.gfmat.org/new-toilets/, https://archive.ph/kW8rG

It's a bit of a weird story - even if the pupil isn't a troon, I think there's a lot we're not being told. Normally a teenage girl only has to make the vaguest of references to "women's issues" to be allowed to do what she wants in this area, particularly from a male teacher.

Also worth pointing out that unisex toilets are supposed to be banned in public buildings, but the blob's gonna blob.

Not certain if anyone can grab the video.
A box of mice was reportedly thrown into a Birmingham McDonald's by protestors who were shouting "free Palestine". Three boxes of red, white and green spray-painted mice were seen being loaded into the back of a car by a man.

The footage emerged on social media, with a video titled 'enjoy your rat burgers'. The word "Palestine" had been placed over the vehicle's number plates.

It's believed the person can then be seen walking up to the Star City McDonald's branch in Birmingham, before the mice are thrown onto the floor, followed by the shouting of "Free Palestine", reports The Express.

As the rodents are hurled into the branch, customers can be heard screaming and jumping in shock. Workers at the branch were seen trying to divert the mice out of the restaurant in a subsequent video.

Pro-Palestinian protests have broken out across the globe after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7. Earlier, protesters surrounded a Marks and Spencer store in Scotland.

After marching through the streets of Glasgow demanding an immediate ceasefire, they gathered outside M&S holding Palestinian flags and placards, reading "Freedom for Palestine". The clip was shared on X from an account named Biology Rules Okay along with the comment: "Berlin 1933. The brownshirts held their rally and then marched to a Jewish-owned shop to make the staff and their customers feel unsafe.

Tensions between pro-Palestinians and British Jews remain high due to the conflict in Gaza. Police have reported an increase in antisemitism and Islamophobia since the attack over three weeks ago. More than 8,000 people in Gaza have been killed since Hamas's atrocities, which claimed the lives of 1,400 on the Israeli side of the border. It has led to mass protests in cities across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Belfast.

A spokesperson for McDonald's told LBC: "We are aware of an incident in our Birmingham Star City restaurant this evening where a number of mice were released by a member of the public. Following the removal of the mice, the restaurant has been fully sanitised and our pest control partners have been called out to conduct a full inspection."

Nobody posted this one yet?
I do t know why but this is just funny. It’s a bit like something from ‘three lions.’
‘Ok Ahmed spray paint the mice.’
‘Why do I have to paint the bloody mice why can’t Ahmed do it?’
‘Ok Ahmed YOU paint the micr.’
(Cut to dopey looking Ahmed 2 spray painting the mice.)
Those aren't mice, those are rats. At least some of them are. I paused it at the start full screen and I'm about 80% those are rats. Mice don't have tails that thick or fat bodies like that.

Also, I think you mean Four Lions. Which is a must-watch film. Three Lions is the football song.

I think you mean Four Lions.
I do indeed . Senior moment. Yes you’re right on the mice v rats as well.
Someone’s nursing some bites tonight, rats don’t like that kind of thing. I’m looking at the carrier box as well as he gets out the car - that looks a bit like the type you get from lab supply. Might not be, could just be a normal box I guess.
There’s text on it but it’s too shaky to read. Look how he’s holding it as well - ‘gingerly.’ I bet he had a bad time painting them. And some poor sod working the cleaning shift at Mac Donald’s is going to have a fun night too

Could be worse. Could be otters. Sharp teeth, I understand...

Star City, the place where the RatDonalds is, is a very large shit hole inhabited by...drum roll...pakis. Thousands of them.
It's not the only reason it's a shit hole; it's also in a Birmingham, which will, one day, hopefully be the landing pad of a very large asteroid.

@Otterly I don't know why I said that about Michaela Strachen. Vague impressions of an energetic blonde in khaki shorts upon my pre-adolescent mind, I think. Did an image search and boy does the memory play tricks!

I feel sorry for the rats. He surely didn't gather up wild ones so these must have been raised as either pets or lab animals. If the latter then... I hope for nothing infectious.

I don't know, she definitely had that geeky-girl-next-door/manic-pixie-dreamgirl combo look when she was young. I could see why she'd arouse a certain interest.

I suppose so. The way you look at someone as a kid and the way you see them as an adult is amazing in how different that can be. That's probably a good thing, though. The Internet is filled with people who seem to still find what they crushed on as kids sexy as adults which is all kinds of disturbing.

That picture does explain where my thing for ponytails and topknots comes from, though. So one mystery solved.
