A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They keep twerking but Massa doesn't come. A sad state of affairs...

I thought this was a shot of the West Indies or something, initially. Maybe there was some other Notting Hill I wasn't aware of.

Ah, Stabbing Hill Carnival, the wonderful celebration of diversity and degeneracy that makes Juneteenth look like a genteel tea party.

After years of these sort of reports and videos, even lefty Redditors are starting to question whether this mass orgy of violence and sexual assaults is really necessary. This is a post from last year from an attendee describing how his GF was repeatedly sexually assaulted by niggers, had her shirt torn off, and yet she STILL went back the next year, dismissing his concerns as racism and claiming that "rock festivals are worse". The lengths that white liberal women will go to to defend degenerate nigger behaviour, even when it directly harms them, are astounding.

UK: Conservative Councillor Is Arrested For “Hate Crime” For Tweet Defending Free Speech (Archive)

Anthony Stevens, a Conservative Councillor from Wellingborough, England, has reportedly been arrested and probed for a supposed hate crime over his engagement in the sharing of a video critical of a police confrontation with a Christian street preacher. The chilling event, highlighting the increasing state intervention on individuals’ freedom of expression, stirs growing concerns around the fast erosion of democratic values and liberties in Britain.

In one striking instance, back in May, Stevens shared a public tweet reflecting his concern over a controversial arrest. The video in question, still circulating on the internet, captures the intense moments when a London policeman confiscated the Bible from Christian preacher Oluwole Ilesanmi, levying against him ill-founded accusations of Islamophobia. Ilesanmi later received compensation totaling £2,500 ($3,147), acknowledging his wrongful arrest.

In the web of uncertainty that followed, officers advised Stevens that the video tweet he propagated originated from the feed of a Britain First member. Stevens maintained his innocence, denying awareness of Britain First’s existence and insisting the act of sharing the video was born purely out of his vexation towards what appeared to be “religious discrimination in law enforcement.”

According to The Telegraph, police confronted Stevens over his tweet expressing solidarity with fellow councilor King Lawal, who trod the path of social cancellation for articulating his Christian beliefs surrounding LGBT matters. Lawal, the sole black councilor in Northamptonshire, met disciplinary action from his Conservative comrades for publicly opposing LGBT pride parades.

Citing pride as harmful, Lawal invoked a cascade of backlash, sparking a move aimed at reinstating his party positions, which was propagated by Stevens. Emboldened by his unwavering commitment to free speech, Stevens passionately stood his ground, defending his support for Lawal and people’s rights to voice their convictions.

An additional scrutiny led the police to a tweet authored by Stevens, depicting a man incinerating a copy of the Koran. Stevens maintained that his controversial act was a demonstration of his steadfast commitment to defending the right to free speech in a free society.

Following this series of events, it came to light that a rival Labour Party member had reported Stevens to the police, resulting in his arrest under a public order offense under section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986.

The authorities, in this regard, suggested that Stevens sparked racial hatred by distributing provocative written materials.

Stevens is currently on bail, with the Christian Legal Centre supporting his cause. A formal complaint is underway to be filed with the Independent Office for Police Conduct, offering a glimmer of hope that his commitment to preserving free speech and stemming the tide of censorship will not be capriciously silenced.

I love how he passes the blame onto the police at the end. Don't the police put up barriers and the niggers just scale them and get in anyway? I've never been, I have just seen videos where that seems to be happening.

NHS set to double the number of addicts given FREE heroine as part of £4m scheme despite concerns over costs and number of people overdosing (Archive)

  • Officials admit there have been 26 overdoses among those who have taken part
  • The EDTS service is targeted at those who struggle with advanced addictions
The number of addicts given free heroin on the NHS is set to double despite concern over the cost of the £4million scheme and dozens of overdoses.

Officials admit there have been 26 overdoses among those who have taken part but now health chiefs are planning to administer heroin to even more drug-users.

The Enhanced Drug Treatment Service (EDTS) is targeted at those whose addiction is so far advanced that methadone has proved ineffectual, but so far fewer than 40 users have taken part.

There have been 26 overdoses among current or former patients since it began in 2019, while more than £80,000 of taxpayers' money has been spent ferrying addicts to the EDTS by taxi.

Last night, Tory MSP Sue Webber said: 'The public will be keen to know why more money is continuing to be diverted into this scheme.

'Scotland continues to have the worst drug deaths rate in Europe on the SNP's watch – and it is vital the right measures are taken to stop so many families grieving the loss of loved ones.

'While this scheme might be supporting some people struggling with addiction, it is money that could be better spent helping those aiming to transform their lives.'

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) said there were 'currently 21 people involved with the EDTS, with nearly 40 people having been treated within the service since inception'.

It added: 'Glasgow City aims to increase the number of active patients over the coming months, with capacity identified as approximately 40 patients.'

Pharmaceutical-grade heroin is given at the EDTS – known as a 'heroin-assisted treatment' facility – under medical supervision in a bid to stop addicts using deadly street heroin.

In July, the Mail revealed that NHSGGC had spent £80,027 on taxis for EDTS patients since 2019. There were 1,051 deaths from drug misuse in Scotland in 2022, down 279 on the previous year.

Annemarie Ward, of human rights advocacy service FAVOR UK, said: 'I see prescribed heroin as akin to methadone in principle, but the term 'free' heroin implies a broader healthcare entitlement.

'My main concern is its poor management and lack of evidence for cost-effectiveness and overall impact.' She added: 'We must also address the stark resource imbalance in rehab funding.

'Glasgow's allocation of just £500,000 from a £50million treatment budget, compared to the £4million cost of the EDTS, highlights this disparity.

'It underscores the urgency for equitable resource distribution and raises questions about our addiction crisis priorities.'

An NHSGGC spokesman said: 'The pilot of the EDTS has demonstrated that diamorphine [heroin] assisted treatment can be implemented safely and effectively in a population group which is marginalised or has complex needs.

'The service did experience some challenges, but the outcomes have largely been positive and the service has improved retention rates among people in this vulnerable group who are seeking help.'

Drugs and Alcohol Policy Minister Elena Whitham said last night: 'We want to get more people into the form of treatment which works best for them.

'There is a strong body of evidence to support the effectiveness of heroin-assisted treatment – showing it can reduce the use of street drugs and increase the likelihood of individuals remaining in treatment.'

I don't even use Google Search anymore. It's beyond useless in AD 2023.
https://kagi.com/ is an excellent search engine. The stinger? It actually costs a small amount. Like a coffee a month cost but that's still enough to put off a tonne of people who'd rather pay for their search with their personal information and constant results bias. But for other people, Kagi is well worth a look, imo.

The UK Government Tracks Journalists That Make Freedom of Information Requests (Archive)

It is by now no surprise to learn that some facts about government, and associated agency decisions, especially controversial ones, do get revealed to citizens thanks to various, varying from country to country, Freedom of Information, known mostly as FOIA, acts.

Related: The Freedom of Information Act and How To Use It

But would it surprise you to learn that while allowing this no doubt to them annoying at least possibility to go on – governments are also in essence “nullifying” this freedom and free-speech-loving legislative “loophole” by trying to undermine it, whichever way they can?

The answer may easily be, “no, not surprising” – and, sad and disappointing as it may sound, if we said, it’s documented to be happening in the UK of all places – how many would actually be shocked.

Well, it’s happening in the UK. There, sure, on the outside, it’s fine if you as a media outlet file a FOIA request. But the dark underbelly is that each of these are – for a reason at this point known only to the UK Ministry of Justice (MoJ) – tracked.

The consequences, as reported by The Times, are that not only that the journalist who engage in this supposedly perfectly legal, uncontroversial (and thus surely, unworthy of any government tracking activity) actually do get tracked – but that the said government entity “appears to be delaying the release of data until clearance is given by political appointees.”

The translation of this is that FOIA-style requests in the UK are sabotaged for time – until they are (or not) given political “clearance.”

Let’s all remember – when George Orwell wrote “1984” – he likely may not have had his own country in mind. But Orwell seems to have foreshadowed much of his own country’s (political) future.

Today – if you’re a journalist in the UK submitting a FOIA – this is what you need to know.

“Ministry of Justice officials have compiled background profiles on journalists that make freedom of information requests, as well as apparently giving press officers and Conservative political appointees input on whether disclosures can be made,” the Times reports, adding that this information is derived from emails it has had access to.

There’s also a “slur-ish” name given to journalists who want to learn about facts via these requests – “data journalists.”

Data, one would assume, designates pure fact.

And then there’s the murky, ill-defined, “fight against misinformation.”

So what in the world might be wrong with – “data journalists”?

I mean of course they keep a record. You have to submit a request. There is a paper trail. And of course they have to wait for it to be greenlit for release, because some of it might actually be sensitive.

How is the fact that there is a process to follow news to the bloody Times of all publications?

How is it news that the Goverment might dislike the people who fight them for info? Considering they fight tooth and nail not to publish what they legally should have to. Which, again, The Times should be more than well aware of.

Like, I thought this was wildly known. Just because it’s common sense.

Remember, we are talking about currentyear journalists. Common sense, research, and contextualisation are all foreign ideas to them.
I mean I know that. But surely they get told that by upper management when they join? Or has the old guard finally been gutted as well?

Just you’d think for a group that goes constantly ‘not revealing source because it will be bad’ would realise that FOI Requests give the most likely people to screw with you all the info to do so.

And that’s me assuming the Gov will screw with them.

There is actually good reason for the Gov to keep a record, wait to get Greenlight from higher up and keep tabs on the journalists afterwards.
