A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Theres no work in Scotland outside of the cities which leads to them coming down to da Norf looking for work and eventually settling here
They need to go back. Maybe you can build a wall and make the Scots pay for it by withholding some of Holyrood's gibs.

Nicola sturgeons husband has been arrested

So there is a very good chance this was the reason behind her sudden resignation a few weeks ago. Can’t lead a party if your husband is being accused of misappropriation if funds for that party.

This has to be the icing on the cake, really. Its like pottery, one might say.

Is this for real? Who is Ian krqnkie?
The krankies are characters played by a Scottish comedy duo, Ian and Janet Tough. Janet played a school boy named wee Jimmy krankie and Ian played the boy's father, Ian krankie. The joke is that Nicola sturgeon looks like wee Jimmy.

So the UK has a Paki Mayor of London, a Bindi Prime Minister, and a Paki Scottish First Minister.
The invasion is almost complete
It was Humza who introduced me to the term "global majority" instead of "minority" when talking about non-whites.

Honestly it's like a covert campaign pushed by white nationalists originating on Stormfront. "Hmm, how can we make white people more sympathetic to diversity and inclusion? How about we remind them that they're massively outnumbered by the the crush of humanity and only in their few dozen western countries are they still temporarily in charge"

Looks like Labour are still nervous about their chances about the elections since they are trying to rebrand themselves as the law and order party (and annoyingly I can't upload images). And they're back.

Here's the context.

The Labour Party has released a second advert attacking Rishi Sunak just hours after being accused of "gutter politics" for targeting the prime minister personally.

The party has come under fire after releasing an advert that claimed Mr Sunak did not think child sex abusers should go to prison - something critics branded a "dog whistle".

It faced mounting calls from across the political spectrum to delete the post, with some comparing its language to Boris Johnson's accusation that Sir Keir Starmer failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile when he was director of public prosecutions.

The ad read: "Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn't."

It cited data from the Ministry of Justice showing that 4,500 adults convicted of sex acts on children avoided a prison sentence since the Conservatives came to power in 2010.

But despite the backlash, the party issued a second tweet on Friday afternoon with a similar theme - this time accusing Mr Sunak of being soft on gun crime.

The ad asked: "Do you think an adult convicted of possessing a gun with intent to harm should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn't."

Again it referred to data from the Ministry of Justice which found that 937 adults convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to harm served no prison time.

Conservative peer Baroness Sayeeda Warsi was one of a number of high-profile politicians to condemn Labour's first tweet last night, while also hitting out at her own party for triggering an "appalling fight into the gutter".

Last week, Home Secretary Suella Braverman claimed Labour-run areas failed to stop child grooming gangs over fears they would be called "racist".

The tweet also drew criticism from Labour's own MPs, including former shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who said: "This is not the sort of politics a Labour Party, confident of its own values and preparing to govern, should be engaged in.

"I say to the people who have taken the decision to publish this ad, please withdraw it. We, the Labour Party, are better than this."

However, this morning the attack was defended by Labour's Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell, who said that while the tweet might not be to "everyone's taste", it was part and parcel of "political campaigning" and served to highlight an issue the party felt the government had failed on.

Asked whether she was "comfortable with pointing the finger at Rishi Sunak", Ms Powell told Sky News: "I'm comfortable with taking a sort of standardised graphic that the prime minister used himself many, many times in recent months and years, to highlight how one of his own policies isn't working."

She added: "It's political campaigning. I'm comfortable to be on your programme this morning defending what we're talking about, which is some really serious issues around the criminal justice system and how this country is just not dealing with that."

And here's even the Independent struggling to support it.

To justify the claim, the advert cites the fact that “under the Tories”, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under the age of 16 had served no prison time.

The statistic is based on data going back to 2010, when Sunak was yet to even become an MP and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was serving as Director of Public Prosecutions.

Edit - the tweets

Added laughter.

A Labour attack on Rishi Sunak’s record of jailing child sex abusers has appeared to backfire as it emerged that Sir Keir Starmer helped decide sentencing guidelines for the crime.

Sir Keir, now the Labour leader, sat on the Sentencing Council in 2012 when it was agreed the crime should not get an automatic prison sentence, although a maximum of 14 years behind bars was set.

His involvement in setting the guidelines undermines the party’s attack on the Tories for being too soft on criminals convicted of child sexual abuse.

Sir Keir was the director of public prosecutions from 2008 to 2013 and became an MP in 2015. The sentencing guidelines adopted in 2012 remain to this day.

>Party whose local councils actively refused to do anything about paki child rape gangs accusing others of not wanting to jail nonces
LOL. LMAO even.

They’re playing a dangerous game for a party that can’t answer the “what is a woman?” question. All the cons have to do is release the same sort of thing with Starmer’s face and the Staniland question on it.

”Do you believe grown men should be allowed to strip naked and expose themselves to your underage daughter? Keir Starmer does.”
”Do you believe you have the right to call a man a man and a woman a woman? Keir Starmer doesn’t.”
”Do you think women and men should have the right to request a health profession of their own sex to perform intimate medical procedures? Keir Starmer doesn’t.”
”Do you think it’s acceptable for a woman in prison to be forced to share a cell with a violent male rapist? Keir Starmer does.”

and so on.

They are well aware of that, a lot of those shrieking about it are going "we can't sink to their level, they're so much better at it!" because they know how bad the counter attacks could be.

If the Tories sunk to Labour's level the first attack would be, quite simply, that Labour's first action against the UK's first Asian PM is to claim he's pro-child rape. Not his party. Him. Something if done not against any of their members but against basically any other Asian male in the country would result in them screaming racism but is apparently under Kier "do they come any whiter" Starmer when targeting Rishi is acceptable behaviour.

When they then move on to "and Kier is the one who passed the laws allowing child rapists to dodge jail time" they'll be calling foul at a pitch only dogs can hear (just to be clear that is an unfair characterisation of what happened. But for this level of politics would be fair)

I'm continually astounded at how Labour seems determined to lose the next GE. They could have sat on their arses and done nothing for the next two years and they'd probably win a decent majority next term simply because of how bad the Tories had shit the bed.
