A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I honestly just assumed it was already illegal. And that the canisters I see on the ground were just because law was ineffective. Shows how out of touch I am!
It was illegal to sell for drug use and illegal to use as a high, but not illegal to possess, because it has too many uses. Chiefly culinary.

Unsurprising for Scotland. Any criticism will be considered racism so they'll start arresting people for it.

The cognitive dissonance required to hate the English for crushing your national heritage and simultaneously voting a Muslim into power is astounding. When it comes to the question of Welsh/Scottish independence the >>>Eternal Anglo<<< in me wants to see these Celtic retards get what they deserve, but I still respect them and love their cultures, so it's very difficult to see them neuter themselves for effectively nothing. It's a lose-lose situation: their culture will still deteriorate and their economy will be a fraction the size.

Many Welsh people and Scots want independence from England due to historical repression of their culture, but what they don't realise that is that as soon as independence is won the veneer of preservation will peel off very quickly. Once the vote is counted in favour of leaving the UK no one in these countries has to pretend that the native whites and their customs matter, namely the bolshy political class. Independence doesn't guarantee that immigrants will stop coming, or rather be invited, into your country, which is a far more pressing matter in regards to the continuance of your traditions than the boogeyman of English repression. In fact I think English eccentricity is one of the only lifelines keeping these cultures afloat, not that they couldn't survive without it. I just don't think the global interests to which these burgeoning nations will be heavily subject are going to care about traditions like the eisteddfod. As a matter of fact, as recent history has proven, traditions directly interfere modernity's financial agenda, and therefore must go.

In light of this independence seems arbitrary. Traditions will still melt away in Scotland and Wales, especially the ones that really matter like at the local level, but recognisable ones like the aforementioned eisteddfod will be morphed into a parody. Allegorical poems about globo-homo themes will be recited by middle-class people who speak in received pronunciation, and fat black men in makeup will rehearse slam poetry at the Gorsedd ceremony to great applause. Traditional poems like the legendary Y Gododdin will be increasingly phased out because of 'radical-nationalism', or some other equally bullshit term, and 'serious discussions about the relationship between Bardic tradition and white nationalism' will begin. If white people want to preserve their culture they need to forge an economic environment that serves that purpose, not divide even further. Either way it's sad to see white people wanting to fracture away from one another rather than reconcile their differences, especially in such difficult times.

I also fear that I might be underestimating the effect England has on our Celtic neighbours. So if I'm talking out my arse please correct me.

Sorry for sperging. This hasn't really been particularly relevant to British news but I thought it was an interesting line of thought.

I honestly don't think most Scottish people particuarly give a shit about England in the way people seem to think they do. It's not helpful or accurate to view the SNP as representative in any meaningful of how the country thinks.

The Scottish parliament should absolutely be dismantled though - it's been an overbloated disaster for a country with a population lower than the entire city of London.

Scotland and Wales have very different relationships/history with England.

The Welsh were genuinely crushed and subsequently oppressed by Edward I. Those castles weren't just to look pretty. For a long time it was assimilated into England. Welsh kids were still being beaten for speaking their own language in school not that long ago in the grand scheme. Despite this, Wales has the more favourable relationship with England in my experience (moreso in the south than the north). I don't think there's the same appetite in Wales for independence as there is north of the border.

The Scottish were never squelched by the English. In fact it was their king who inherited the English throne and united the two countries. Yet the rest of the island hears nothing but complaining from the SNP about independence when there are far bigger fish to fry right now. Their relationship with the English has always seemed far more fraught and fucked if I know why. And how they got away with not taking any of the blame for the historical shitshow in Ireland is beyond my understanding. Easier to just blame the English I guess.

In terms of Ireland...well, I mostly feel bad for the Northern Irish who are loyal to Britain. I don't know if they realise how little they're factored into anything that happens here. I'd guess the average Brit knows very little about NI compared to the rest of the UK, and I don't know if Ireland would even want unification at this juncture.

Probably. Wasn't he the guy who introduced that literal hate crime thing that could have kids snitching on their parents' private conversations?
Not certain, might be.

A historian was accused of on-air 'assault' by her fellow panelist during a heated debate over bias in the legal system on Jacob Rees-Mogg's GB News show State Of The Nation tonight.

In shocking scenes writer and broadaster Tessa Dunlop was seen to raise her hand to cover the mouth of fellow guest Jerry Hayes as they clashed in a discussion over the duty of lawyers to ignore their political bias when it comes to choosing what clients they represent.
A stunned Mr Hayes, a former Conservative MP, flapped his arms in indignation at the gesture and said: "Don't touch me, excuse me that was an assault."
Ms Dunlop said: "I'm really sorry."

Moments before the clash Ms Dunlop asked Mr Hayes not to "use his testosterone to shout me down" before saying she believed the "legal system needed to be reviewed" and "lawyers needed to be listened to".
Mr Hayes in return had said what Ms Dunlop was saying was "an absolute disgrace" which "undermined the rule of law".
Chairing the debate Mr Rees-Mogg said it was fundamental the law was changed by "elected people" and not by "unelected people".
After the spirited encounter between his guests, the MP said: "Thank you to both of my panelists... getting a little het up today."
The panel were debating the statement from a group of leading lawyers this week who said they would refuse to prosecute climate protesters or represent firms involved in fossil fuels or projects.

More than 120 legal professionals have declared they will not act against groups such as Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil, organisations that have caused widespread criminal disruption to the country and transport networks in recent years.
The lawyers said the groups were "exercising their democratic right of peaceful protest" and have published a "Declaration of Conscience" ahead of the prospect of any disciplinary action against them for the stance.
The chair of the Bar Council Nick Vineall KC said it was "disappointing", according to the BBC.
Barrister Paul Powlesland, who signed the declaration, said: "We're refusing to advise fossil fuel companies on how to dig for new oil and gas, the same way we wouldn't advise a killer how to commit serial murders."
The group, who call themselves "Lawyers Are Responsible", say they will withhold their services supporting new fossil fuel projects and any action against climate protesters who are "exercising their democratic right of peaceful protest".

Jeremy Corbyn has been banned from standing as a candidate for Labour at the next general election.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) voted 22 to 12 to approve a motion from Sir Keir Starmer to prevent his predecessor from being endorsed.

Shabana Mahmood, a Labour MP and the party's national campaign co-ordinator, called the move a "clear demonstration" of the current leadership making changes "to make sure that we can win the trust of the British people again".

But supporters of Mr Corbyn have braded the decision an "anti-democratic stitch-up", saying local constituency members should get to decide his fate.

The veteran MP, 73, has represented Islington North for the past 40 years and must now decide if he wants to stand as an independent candidate, having been a member of the Labour party since he was 16.

Such a move could cause a distracting challenge for Sir Keir at the next election, with Mr Corbyn retaining significant support among constituents who have voted for him in 10 consecutive elections since 1983.

Labour continuing to be peak Labour and getting into internal slapfights instead of focusing on the Tories.

The Scottish ended up more cucked though. I was genuinely impressed by the relationship the Welsh have with their language... The Scots don't know and they genuinely don't want to know. Celtic languages are really cool, pity they all died, but Celts are retards.

Scotland has an emigration problem. No fucker wants to live in Jockland, not even the Scotch. If they got independence, we'd need a hard border with them. Otherwise people would "immigrate" to Scotland and just walk south.

Excuse my immense shallowness, but something I don't understand is why everyone still says he looks young/like a teenager. He looks haggard as fuck to me. Every one of his nearly 40 years is visible on his face. The classic aging twink.

I look forward to watching him campaign for Labour at the next GE while all his followers cry about it because Labour isn't pro-trans enough for them.

Regardless of how old he may appear he will always be a big baby.

I have never looked forward to a GE less than this.
