A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

No; they'll increase benefits for the unemployed while increasing taxes for the middle class, at best, some of the coronation money will go to bribe the NHS doctors, but you have to be delusional if you believe the shit that comes out of The Guardian.

Covid and what came after is a grim reminder of how incapable large segments of society are when it comes to financial responsibility, and the limitations of government overreach, they want daddy government to do everything for them.
 
New tranny data just dropped from the ONS today, detailing Gender identity (and additionally Sexual Orientation) by age and sex group. Just as a note, keep in mind that the ONS equates everyone who ticked 'Different sex identity to birth' as 'Trans' so the actual statistical proportion of those who specifically ticked 'Trans man/woman' is proportionally lower.

Striking point seen immediately is that around 1% of 16-24 year olds identify as different sex identity from birth. For raw numbers for just those who ticked 'Trans man/woman' for those in the 16-24 age bracket this is equates to 23,000 (0.37%). In total from the previous dataset which gave provisional numbers of 'Trans men/women' gives 96,000.

Additionally, this proportion is higher with those that identify as a different gender identity that ticked Female in the sex box.

As a population pyramid (in proportion for age in relation to each sex group) it looks like this, showing that Trans Men are generally older rather then Trans Females who are proportionally younger.

For sexual orientation data, around nearly 7% of 16-24 year olds identify as a orientation other then just straight, which shrinks considerably the older you go down, the majority of which before 25-34 identifying as Bisexual.

Well, that's nothing new. Most of the heavy lifting the Brits did in Desert Storm was getting engines in and out of Challengers thanks to all the breakdowns.

Teachers across England are going on strike after a decade of meagre earnings in a state-funded school system. This has seen many take up second jobs or leave the profession altogether.

Also
IMF has predicted that the UK economy will contract by 0.6% in 2023, rather than grow slightly. It will perform worse than other advanced economies.

mmhh. I’m not convinced. I know a fair few teachers and I would say their working day is roughly 8.00am to 6.00 pm excluding travel, some days a later finish due to extra curricular clubs etc. None could be trusted on a scooter or e-bike with your evening meal. Only Fans maybe.

I have acquaintances in teaching (in London), it is shocking how little they are paid in comparison to the expectations put on them, they don't so much as teach, as tardwrangle a generation of extremes, students now'a'days are either complete melts or violent sociopaths.

Even worse is how overpaid headmasters and school administrators are, especially with how little work they do, the Academy system was a massive mistake.

Pretty much your only options in the UK to make a decent income as a teacher are what you mentioned - getting promoted to headteacher, or shifting to being an administrator. That, and switching to private schools - I knew one guy who quit a well-paid job in a large business to go back to teaching science at a private school. Apparently came with a pay raise for him too.

The only decent teacher in a UK public school I've ever known in the last decade or two, recently quit to become a lawyer.

When you think about all of those people leaving the job, or going private, it really makes me wonder who's left at this stage still teaching. There's something really depressing about children being taught by people with very few job prospects.

I know it's selective clips but you can almost smell the fear as the cognitive breakdown occurs. The fact that she's trying to spin that there would be some sort of control over rapists claiming a new gender despite the fact that the legislation they tried to pass removing that is almost hilarious. I look forwards to the trial using these interviews as evidence and watching her explain that her past self was lying.

I truly do loathe this woman. I sympathise with Scots who want independence but I’m so fucking sick of listening to her bang on about it for well over a decade now. Most of the UK isn’t Scotland and the media give an absurd amount of attention to this hag dribbling on about her one obsession.

So of course I’ve been enjoying her very public reaming over the last few days over this issue. She applied the same amount of critical thinking to her little gender gotcha designed to create artificial drama with Westminster as she did to the implementation of Scottish independence and fucked up both spectacularly.
 
What's bizarre to me is that it's a woman doing this. I could at least understand a total misogynist chucking women under the bus to grab for that brass ring of Scottish independence, but how can you betray your own sex like that?

It's been an utterly wild, and completely failed experiment - the SNP have really demonstrated why Scotland shouldn't have it's own government.

Beyond that, Scotland has a tiny population - about 5.5 million. That's less than the population of London, at 9 million.

It really shouldn't get as much press coverage or attention as it does.
