A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This fucker had one job. He secures a historic Tory victory, all he has to do is do all the shit he kinda promised he would do, and not get into any serious scandals, and he and his party could be in power for decades to come.
He didn’t even have to do that. All he had to do to stop all this was get rid of a guy that said he’d done wrong and had problems and everyone was telling him to get rid of.

Just saw that 45 people resigned from the government, is this it for Boris Johnson? Are the walls closing in?
He's fucked. Of course, being useless, the party blew their load too early with the no confidence vote when he had enough support to hold on. Now they are going to have to do the "everyone is resigning and no one is going to take positions to fill the spots" tactic. Boris is in the May late stages of denial at this point where she kept getting pressed and she kept delaying and trying to say no before eventually going.

Problem is, who wants his job? He's fouled it up so badly that the stench from all his fuckups is going to stick to whoever takes over.

Boris won't leave unless he's pushed.
I wonder who will eventually replace him though. I'd like Mog but the common man can't relate to him.
Mogg is a snake in a tophat, I don't trust him. He's got money tied up in offshore funds which suggests politics is just a financial oppertunity to him as well.

I mean, just listen to him brown-nosing Boris:

I'll give him credit on being able to recite bits of obscure history on the fly, though.

Problem is, who wants his job?
Also - who would you trust in the position, from either party? Two cheeks of the same arse at this point, neither gives a shit about the population's best interests. I don't think we will ever see meaningful change until we see a few MPs introduced to the guillotine. To quote a Frenchman describing Britain "sometimes it's good to execute a few admirals to encourage the others" which will never happen, sadly.

This is a complete farce but at least we have front row seats

And another one has gone (2 days after being appointed)

New chancellor has told him to go too (but hasn't gone as far as to resign hoping he gets to keep his plush job under the new PM no doubt)

And same with defence minister

Also have to love our boomer politicians posting badly aligned, uncroped, and often blury photos of their resignation letter.

Lots of "we've been told" stories everywhere which isn't breaking because who told you, what did they say, and how believable is that source? It's an easy bet for lazy journalists that he's going to be forced out so just put a "we've been told" story out.

Good riddance to the useless fuck. Now I wonder which neoliberal globalist puppet the blob will inflict on us next. Fuck it, may as well bring Blair back.

It's all on the fast track to collapse anyway and I don't see anyone turning it around. May as well hope for the most useless of the useless WEFcucks to accelerate it.

As the usual lot will have it we're just losing our Trump, time for our Biden.

Liz just needs to go fuck it I've not long left anyway may as well go full despot and have the lot "disposed of". Hell that's preferable to any of the possible replacements.

I for one welcome our new authoritarian overlord, may all her enemies be deported to Africa.

Not how it works. Boris stays in until a leadership election picks a successor. If he died from having his balls crushed by princess nut nuts (to pick an entirely random example), then the succession would kick in.
