A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I remember people in my graduating class who couldn't even crack the top quarter of our graduating class transfered to lower performing/competitive schools so they could easily get in the top 10 percent and get into any public university which was very smart since has the Top Ten percent law.
Devil's advocate here: Perhaps those kids were smart relative to the general pop but were in a high performance area that obscured their quality which suggests perhaps a different problem all together?

I don't think they were obscured but more like overshadowed, especially the school they went to was over 2700 other students and several of them had perfect 5.0 GPAs.

Better choice of word, overshadowed but I definitely think it reveals a flaw in how we select for elevated/advantaged positions of academic pursuit.

Devils Advocate: Select on a national level and see what happens to those diversity figures that are so important.

One thing larger and big name respected schools have is the power of the connections.

If you think at all the Dynastic names will mingle with the gibs students you are daft. I'm against this because you can and should scholarship the best minds, even more so if someone is fucking brilliant and poor, don't let that mind slip thru the cracks.

Just throwing poor people into school won't make them smart, we have a history of this in the western world, but that doesn't look good that dumb people and poor people often don't bother or have the brain or desire to change.

Yeah. If you really want to uplift the poor you'd do better to give them local access to educational materials rather than giving a select few some kind of success lottery. Something like the library of...Detroit I think? Turning libraries into free education and community outreach centers would give them new purpose and life utilizing pre-existing infrastructure to help lower costs as well.

"People say I'm lucky but I would trade anything to be able to go back and for Charles to know I was his son," he said.
"Maybe then he might have taken a different path."

Rates this dude feels.

I feel he means this too, what a decent person and nice when something good happens to someone who had been scoffed in life.

He doesn't own the estate, the National Trust own it as the family gifted it to the NT in exchange for a 1000 year lease to live there and £52k a year to live on which means it's also probably open to the public too. It's probably the best deal as he gets the house to live in and gets a decent wage and the National Trust has to pay for all the maintenance on the estate.

Especially as a lot of these homes are too expensive to maintain.

This is just flexing. I'm pretty sure Harvard already does this with how it offers so much need-based money to those who qualify.

Exactly. Some of you people have got to stop looking for the woke gremlins on every airplane wing. We always complain here how universities are money-grubbing conjobs, but now that they're aiming to combat the problem of only letting in students if they can pay an arm and a leg it's still bad?

At first I was not sure about their decision to put a focus on geographically poor areas, but even that might be good. Here in the states the uppity universities of New England and California think the rest of the country is scum and their student bodies might benefit from actually having to interact with students from the poor areas they despise, I assume a similar idea would be good across the pond too.
There is an excellent memoir that details this exact sort of scenario. It's titled "Hillbilly Elegy," by JD Vance and the last section of the book is about the author (who came from a "hillbilly background in the holler") adapting to life at Harvard Law School.

Why would activists care about model trains? They’re probably kids of the local war gamers who are pissy they can’t throw dice that week.
Or just bored kids. Model train sets are the holy grail of vandalism. If I ever discovered that in middle school, I'd have a vandal boner raging. Especially a set like this that had a lot if time and monet put into it.

EDIT: I'm not condoning what those little shits did, I just understand it. There's a difference here, you fags

It sounds more like you want to be an asshole just to be one. Those shitass kids deserve the belt. Models take a bitch ass long time to do.

Why must people fuck with middle aged and old men trying to enjoy themselves? It's not like they get to enjoy that much in their fucking lives. They're at the age where fucking causes back pain, they're to slow for vidya, and they can't tolerate 90% of the fun drugs. It's a better outlet than drinking and considering suicide because they're lonely as fuck and having to consider things like death.

There really needs to be more spaces for the middle aged and old to sperg without their hobby getting destroyed.

Well I mean it got a chuckle out of me because I remember being a retarded shit like that. Still, they deserve a public caning. It was still wrong to do that to those guys' property. That's not acceptable and we need to bring back ass whoopings to correct behavior. Kids these days need to get beatings to help temper them.

That time out, talking to bullshit is faggy and ineffective. Getting a belt and hitting some ass helps remind kids their place in life.
