A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I don't know how many of you remember the case of Sara Sharif, the little girl who was killed and whose family then ran away to Pakistan were definitely-totally-for-realsies told to leave the country by a solicitor because of racisms and shit. Well their murder trial finally starts tomorrow, will be interesting to see how they claim they dindu nuffin.
I’m guessing the press will memory hole this for community cohesion?

Sue gray has quit.
Here's the article.
I'd put money her pay will barely dip.
Sue Gray has quit her role as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's chief of staff, saying she "risked becoming a distraction".
She had been caught up in rows over pay, after the BBC's political editor revealed her salary was higher than Sir Keir's, and donations from Lord Alli.
A Downing Street spokeswoman confirmed Ms Gray is to take up a new role as the PM's envoy for nations and regions.
Labour said Ms Gray will be replaced by Morgan McSweeney, who was previously chief adviser to the PM and masterminded Labour’s election campaign.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c99vrzp3dp3o
Ms Gray has been subject to intense internal briefings and criticism, with Whitehall sources claiming she was excessively controlling and causing delays in government decision-making.
Resigning, she said it had been an honour to "play my part in the delivery of a Labour government" as Sir Keir's chief of staff, both in opposition and in No 10.
"Throughout my career my first interest has always been public service," she said.
"However in recent weeks it has become clear to me that intense commentary around my position risked becoming a distraction to the government’s vital work of change.
"It is for that reason I have chosen to stand aside, and I look forward to continuing to support the prime minister in my new role."
Thanking Ms Gray for her work preparing Labour for government and in Downing Street, Sir Keir said he was "delighted" she would stay by his side in her new role.
He said: "Sue has played a vital role in strengthening our relations with the regions and nations. I am delighted that she will continue to support that work.”
The recent Labour conference was overshadowed by controversy over clothing donations from Labour peer and longstanding donor Lord Waheed Alli, for whom Ms Gray reportedly authorised a temporary Downing Street pass after the election.
A Conservative Party spokesman claimed the Labour government was "in chaos".
He said: "In fewer than 100 days, Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government has been thrown into chaos - he has lost his chief of staff who has been at the centre of the scandal the Labour Party has been engulfed by.
"Sue Gray was brought in to deliver a programme for government and all we’ve seen in that time is a government of self-service.
"The only question that remains is who will run the country now?"
The prime minster has reshuffled his top team with four other appointments, ahead of marking his first 100 days in office.
The move follows private frustration voiced by several sources over Downing Street’s communication strategy, which has led to the appointment of James Lyons, the former deputy political editor of The Sunday Times and the Daily Mirror.
He becomes the new strategic communications lead, alongside two new deputy chiefs of staff, Vidhya Alakeson and Jill Cuthbertson, and a new PM principal private secretary in Nin Pandit.
Sir Keir said: "This shows my absolute determination to deliver the change the country voted for."

13 weeks in too, pretty impressive.
I've made jokes with friends before about the conservatives being death by a thousand cuts and Labour being a death by shotgun blast to the face and I'm loving being right.

I still think Labour is retarded enough to try give away another island and I honestly believe they are dumb enough to give away the Falklands at this point.

Falklands would be retarded, but this is super-retard Starmer we're talking about. He will probably hand-over Northern Ireland to the Irish and Scotland to Brussels so the Ununited Kingdom can join back in with the EU.

Oh shit I remember that case, it sounds like someone inside the police was working on it and told the solicitor to tell them to flee.
It wasn't even that since they fled before anyone knew she was dead. They were the ones who called the cops once they got to Pakistan.

Their story is basically that she died in an accident, they spoke to a solicitor friend (instead of you know calling an ambulance, or the cops or anything), and he told them that they'd be mistreated for being muzzie (lol) and it'd be used to blame all muslims (LMAO even) so they fled to Pakistan.
Of course once they got to Pakistan they immediately went into hiding and claimed it was because they were worried they be mistreated by Pakistani police.

I’m guessing the press will memory hole this for community cohesion?
Maybe. There's still some outlets covering it, that's how I found out about it. The real test will be if/how they cover the trial. Parents (allegedly) killing their kids and fleeing the country would normally be major front page news, so let's see if it's covered thatway

I think we are going to see some form of intervention with the higher powers due to the security risks. The speaker and King are pissed and Parliment is not even in session meaning it could fuck over international relations especially considering it was a joint base with the US. If Trump gets in I think he may step in to erase the deal because the base is incredibly important. The idea that this stupid fucker would hand it over to your greatest enemy is sheer fucking lunacy.

Sue Grey is a distraction because he is trying really hard to not have his secret air before the budget. There are a lot of major powers pressing on Reeves too demanding they are dropped because the amount of nationals prepping to leave is high. I know a lot of doctors and nurses of various nationalities including British looking abroad. This could create a massive brain drain too and we already have that it will just exasperate the problem.

The true labour power move would be giving the isle of wight and all of it's fishing rights to France as a bargaining chip to ask them to stop keep sending migrants to the UK.

They only even got interested when somehow the biddies were signing over their wills to him.

Exactly! If he hadn't have been fucking about with their wills, he would've got away with it. He got greedy.

Shame on you, Shippers. It's not about the money, it's about the love of the game.

The Americans trooped out Biden to okay this, so that wing of American politics are at least fine with it. The individuals you mention can be as pissed as they want, Hoyle expended all of his good will fucking around with Gaza stuff so Labour could avoid flack on it and the King is as powerless as ever. Of course any claims about their outrage are likely unfounded.

Christian Brueckner the German dude who was named as the prime suspect in the Maddy McCann disappearance has just been found not guilty of a bunch of sex crime charges from his time in Portugal. No doubt the Met will now be requesting more money for a quick holiday in the Algarve further investigations.

The whole Maddie McCann thing is so frustrating. We all know who's responsible.
There are lots of people responsible ( and depending on your outlook irresponsible ).
Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever know for certain what happened now. Which suits a lot of parties directly or indirectly involved.

So it was Gamergate who were responsible after all.

The trial of a 14-year-old girl accused of trying to murder two teachers and a pupil in a school stabbing has collapsed due to a "great irregularity in the jury".
Teachers Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin and a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, were taken to hospital after being stabbed on 24 April.
The girl, who cannot be named due to her age, pleaded guilty to three counts of wounding with intent, but denied three counts of attempted murder.
The jury at Swansea Crown Court began deliberations on Tuesday, but were discharged on Wednesday morning, with Judge Paul Thomas KC saying the trial had been "irretrievably compromised".
The judge asked one member of the jury to stay behind as members of the public were told to leave the court.
Someone dun goofed.
