A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Who and what army is collecting?
Can't they just not pay it?
Hungary may be reliant on EU gibs. A couple of years ago Hungary lifted a veto on an aid package for Ukraine on the condition that the EU would unfreeze funding for Hungary that had been withheld over "rule-of-law" concerns. In other words, the EU can just turn off the money tap.

Wouldn't they just run to a different power bloc instead?

not even a few seconds in and I feel a visceral disgust listening to that speaker at the beginning.
could someone explain to a burger here, why does the youth parliment even exist? why should a government listen to kids with zero life experience when it comes to national politics?
There's an additional branch called the "Children's Government" for under 11s which was founded by Sir David Amess (the MP who got murdered).

I don't necessarily disagree with the initiative of Youth Parliament because it's important to get young people involved and engaged with politics - so many of them literally see politics as irrelevant to themselves. But I'm not surprised that Youth Parliament has ended up like that because you've got to think about the kids who are most likely to get involved, the ones who will leave Sixth Form and go on to menace their university Student Unions and the NUS.

That is a dumb move from the EU to Hungary as Hungary are very friendly to Russia. They're just impairing their defences at this point because now Hungary will leave and cuddle up to Russia plus they hate Ukraine, so there is that.

These Arabs do fuck all, why are you rolling on your back whilst it destabilizes areas. This all feels like its coming to head.

Russia is insanely incompetent. I'm not a NAFO troon or one of those people who masturbates to drone footage, I'm just saying "well what about Russia?" is an outdated fear at this point. The past year and a half has been an eye-opener and threats of Soviet Union 2 died alongside the rest of Russia's hopes and dreams.

The outbursts have stopped for now but they will be back.

Well we are fucked

TLDR

  • Local powers to prevent building on brown and green belt SCRAPPED enjoy your Arab ghetto council estates you fucks
  • Local powers scrapped - he is trying to eradicate local councils
  • Nationalised rail system - HOLY FUCK COMMIES AND TRAINS!!!! Guess what fellow bongs we are paying tax on it.
  • Schools taxes on fees, fucking the middle class YAY!!!! Schools become the hunger games whilst Tarquin is surrounded by a bunch of arabs eyeing him up to stab
  • Migration proposal NOTHING enjoy your sand people populations
  • Employment laws to help corpo and fuck over small and medium businesses, HEY KIER want to just fucking rail our economy with a hot poker whilst you are at it.
  • Manchester and London are essentially now secondary states operating on their own laws, can you smell the Charia courts yet because I fucking can. He stated other areas too.
  • More civil servants and bureaucrats operating in sports meaning they are trying to push for crowd control, riots often occur after sports.
  • Smoking ban pretty much
  • OBR budget is bigger
  • Stupid environmental bill that is owned by the government, Great British Energy.
Now there is a plus side to this and that is the Trade unions have more power meaning we can strike more.

When are the government going to do something about these roaming gangs of Welshmen going about, stabbing children and terrifying their parents with their close harmony singing?

Welshies out. Welshies go home.
One slapped me with a leek!

Tarquin Oliver Nimrod Corrigan?

Some of the shit in the King's speech reminds me of the bit in The Thick of It where the conservatives go on a retreat and practice blue sky thinking. "Free coffins! Free teabags!" Except it's ecological football clubs and more female bishops.

? This government keeps talking about hyper localization. They might have to centralise all the failing local authorities. I won't be sad to see Birmingham to not be governed by the local council
I agree with Kemi Badenoch, their house building target is ludicrous lmao

  • Nationalised rail system - HOLY FUCK COMMIES AND TRAINS!!!! Guess what fellow bongs we are paying tax on it.
As long as the tickets decrease because the prices are ridiculous. I know people who, for the privilege of wanting to live in a house and not a pod in London and commuting 2 hours each way, have to pay £30-40 a day to commute.

  • Migration proposal NOTHING enjoy your sand people populations
The Civil Service (ie the unions) sued the government about the Rwanda bill. The UK needs to exit the ECHR

  • Manchester and London are essentially now secondary states operating on their own laws, can you smell the Sharia courts yet because I fucking can. He stated other areas too.

Did people miss this "The world is getting its first Sikh court in London." (Guardian, archive). A lot of people praise the Sikh as "the good guys". I am sure they are better than those who find raping teen girls a fun family activity, but the bar is literally on the floor

  • OBR budget is bigger
I don't know what to think of Liz Truss, I didn't follow the whole thing closely. However she has spoken about the role of the OBR in the failure of her budget. I am just saying... watch this space :tomgirl:

Now there is a plus side to this and that is the Trade unions have more power meaning we can strike more.
What's the point if you can only strike to bring in pronouns badge? Or for more immigration?

The speech is nothing new. Here is an explanation of all the bits https://assets.publishing.service.g...g_s_Speech_2024_background_briefing_notes.pdf

The King's Speech (used to be the Queen's Speech of course) happens for every new government. It is just the method used in the UK for the government to announce its priorities.

Labour own the unions. Hence why they got a rail one to strike in Manchester during the Tory conference and the medical one to do one during the election. The latter is especially galling because people will unquestionably die as a result and there was no way to agree anything for the strike because it was in the middle of an election.

Trade union powers are Labour powers and will remain so indefinitely.

Thanks @Nine year old waifu reading it now, the employment stuff is may I say not shit but it will be exploited. The flexible hours clause works great for me and my second job. I actually really support that because if you work from home and are essentially your own boss, you should define your own hours. The one thing I actually support is for Public ownership of the rail, it will hopefully make commuting a lot cheaper. My other workplace is already pissed about the wage change because it will eat into their profits.

No NHS mentioned, so great staff continue to get treated like shit. They expect to import a ton of Africans not native but guess what they are shit.

Nationalising energy, rails is a good idea, they should nationalise water as well.
I'm not a commie, but at the moment, the tax payer pays for fixing the lines, the ticket-payer pays through the nose while services are decreased and the shareholders run off laughing. Same with energy and especially water.
If someone is going to make money, it may as well be the government. The trains were better when they were nationalised as it stops unchecked corporate greed.

As for Sharia laws coming in, there are already 30+ sharia courts in the country that the government tells us that they pinky-promise to definitely abide by UK law when sentencing...except for all of those young girls who "returned to pakistan" nudge nudge, wink wink (they were murdered and that's a cover up).

I'm not a commie, but
So you think your government is totally incompetent managing immigration but they know best when it comes to energy, transportation, and water? When they have to shut down all 3 for climate change reasons, do you think they will do so equally, or would the immigrants get preferential access?
