A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Sorry to derail, but driving test wait times are a fucking joke. I'm genuinely concerned that my theory test will expire before I can pass a practical.
It took my sister 8 weeks of logging in every Monday at 5:55am to get a test. She had 18k people in front of her in the queue one week. She got her test last week and the test is in November.
The DVLA are aware of bots and jeets reselling tests at double the price but are doing fuck all.

The story emerging from the cabinet meeting is that he read a short statement then moved on to talking about Iran which was enough to stop anyone raising the issue of him resigning.

That's the strength of the internal opposition he's "clinging on" against.

"I'll only talk to you about those topics individually"

"May I talk to you individually?"

".... no"

Do Africans and Caribbeans hate each other?
No, that's an American thing.
What ideology drives Starmer?
Community Harmony at all costs.
I really don't think Lammy would be an improvement.
I'm not calling the honourable:lit: member for Tottenham a retarded chimpanzee, I'm saying the chimp is by far his intellectual superior.

I hear touts book everything, then sell test slots to immigrants wanting to do uber and the like.

Do not worry Steiner's Lammy's counterattack against these noisy louts will restore confidence!

Very glad I got my driving done long ago. Even back then pre-coof waiting times were still getting pretty crazy.

While we're complaining about this, I've noticed that 90% of Uberjeets delivery drivers are razzing around on mopeds with L plates. They clearly don't know how to ride a moped properly and are taking advantage of some loophole where you're allowed to ride a moped while "learning" for a test they never intend to take.

There's an obvious solution of at least banning these guys from being delivery drivers (i.e. riding a moped as their job) until they've actually passed a test. Please fix it for me Rupert.

Yeah mopeds are a classic loophole. I remember my parents talking about that from when they were young. It'll probably take a string of cases of jeets on mopeds hitting and killing people for something to possibly be done about it, like with the truck incidents in the US.

I for one am all for Prime minister David Lammy. If things are going to go to shit then we may as well have a good laugh whilst it happens.

Reform UK councillor who called for Nigerians to be 'melted' to fill potholes suspended days after being elected

Newly-elected Sunderland politician Glenn Gibbins has become the sixth Reform UK councillor to be suspended since being appointed a matter of days ago

Richard Tice came under fire for refusing to condemn Mr Gibbins comments.

A newly-elected Reform UK councillor who called for Nigerians to be “melted” down and used as ballast in the city’s potholes has been suspended from the party.

On Tuesday, Reform UK exclusively confirmed to LBC that newly-elected Sunderland councillor Glenn Gibbins has been suspended over a now-deleted social media post in which he called for Nigerians to be used to fill potholes. The party had previously confirmed that the party was looking into Mr Gibbins comments, with a spokesperson confirming to LBC on Tuesday that he "has been suspended pending investigation".

“Should melt them all down and fill in the pot holes!!” he wrote in the now-deleted post, as brought to light by campaign group Hope Not Hate. Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice came under fire on Sunday after he refused to condemn Mr Gibbins comments.

Four further councillors were suspended from Nigel Farage's party on Monday, with Mr Gibbins bringing the total number of suspended Reform UK councillors to six. The party also noted that Reform UK councillor Jay Cooper "has had his party membership revoked" and is now sitting as an independent after comments he made denying the Holocaust came to light.

On Monday, Farage's party announced that Ashley Monk and Jo Monk had become the third and fourth respective Reform UK councillors be suspended from the party after "bringing the party into disrepute". In a statement, a Reform spokesperson said: “Cllrs Ashley Monk and Jo Monk have been suspended from Reform UK pending investigation after, respectively, bringing the party into disrepute, and refusing to accept the democratic decision of the Reform UK Group on Worcestershire County Council.”

Jo Monk had previously led Worcestershire County Council, with the party insisting she had been suspended for "refusing to accept the democratic decision of the Reform UK group". It comes after Plymouth City Councillor Ben Rowe was also suspended on Monday for sharing a post on social media depicting a bomb being dropped on Mecca, has been suspended from the party just days after winning a seat on Plymouth City Council.

Monday also saw Essex County Council and for Rochford District Council councillor Stuart Prior resign from Reform despite denying any wrongdoing, with the party announcing his membership had been revoked over alleged racist posts. All councillors were elected last week as Reform UK gained local election seats across the UK.

On Monday, Cllr Ashley Monk hit back at both Nigel Farage and fellow councillors following the suspension. Writing in a statement, he said: "I’m done staying quiet" alleging other councillors had sent "threatening messages" in a WhatsApp group he has since been removed from. "Following the appointment of Alan Amos as group leader, I’ve received screenshots from a WhatsApp group I’ve now been excluded from which are threatening messages towards myself, simply because I refused to support views that are completely incompatible with Reform and the people we represent."

He went on to make a series of allegations, insisting he was suspended for "refusing to compromise on basic values". Hitting out at Nigel Farage, he added his suspension was also "for refusing to back someone whose track record shows jumping from party to party for personal gain."

Earlier in the day, Mr Rowe, who was elected a councillor in the Plymouth Ham ward last Thursday and won 1,649 votes, was "suspended from Reform UK pending investigation”. Reform UK previously told LBC they were “thoroughly looking into his social media posts”, which have since been removed. The party also claims to maintain “some of the strongest vetting procedures in the country”. Aside from the post depicting a bomb being dropped on Mecca, LBC has previously revealed a post shared by the now councillor depicting Patrick from SpongeBob as a Muslim with a child bride.

LBC asked Mr Rowe for a comment about the posts and was told he “will not comment on the matter,” but it’s been reported that he posted on Facebook to say the posts had been taken out of context and that he had shared them years ago – although it appears this post has also since been removed. This news comes on the same day we’re hearing another new Reform UK councillor, Stuart Prior, has resigned. He’d previously denied making racist posts, but a Reform UK source said on Monday he was resigning from his elected positions for personal reasons.

They went on to say they’d also revoked his Reform UK membership. Mr Prior had been elected to the Rayleigh West division for Essex County Council and to Sweyne Park and Grange ward for Rochford District Council, both with about 40% of the vote. Reform UK won control of Essex County Council from the Conservatives on Friday, winning 53 of the 78 seats up for election. Meanwhile, in Plymouth, the party gained 14 seats – including Mr Rowe’s – moving them to the second largest group in the city.

There are different categories of 'motorbike' on UK driving licences. They're broken down by size and power. Category A means if it's legal on the road, it's legal for you. A2 means it can't be above around 500cc (actual limit is defined in power but this is your rule of thumb). A1 is your 125cc and lower. But don't be fooled by a 125cc. You can get those things up to 60mph (helps if you're not too fat, though). It's enough to be dangerous. There's also AM which is your 30mph 50cc moped type of thing. Heaven help you if you need to pull out of the way of something fast on one of those!

Aside from these 'proper' licences, you have your CBT (Compulsory Bike Training). That's usually a day with an instructor covering some theory and taking you and a few others for a potter around town. He'll check you can go round a roundabout, start it on a hill and a few basics but it's not like a full driving test and the 'licence' you get is like a provisional licence - if you don't take your full test before the CBT expires you have to renew your CBT. But a lot of people will just keep renewing it as it's all they need. I think it lasts two years.

Anyway, the suggestion of requiring a full licence if you're using the vehicle for a job, is a good suggestion imo.

This thing may look like a mutant grasshopper but it weighs 190lbs plus rider and can go 35mph which is a lot more than a pedal bike. If it hits you, it wont be fun.

And I expect as usual the governments response will be to introduce new and more draconian laws rather than actually start enforcing the ones we have.

I wonder how long Hope Not Hate sat on this information?

I could be fucking funny though. Imagine meeting Donny and Teflon just starts playing his mastermind performance
If one of the Tory frontbench don't start playing the Mastermind theme on their phone as Kemi begins her questions at PMQ, then our MPs are not worth paying for. She should pull out a box of Trivial Pursuit cards and use the entire first session just asking him random general knowledge.
