A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Watching the cabinet panic as they carve huge chunks off the welfare reform bill, in the vain hope they'll win over enough votes to get it pass. Starmer is a dead man walking at this point. If he's not facing a leadership challenge by the end of the year, I'll be very disappointed.

I was listening to the radio (not by choice) on the way back from work and GLOBAL wants me to know all about how fucked queef stomper is if/when his big vote flops. I think it's gonna happen.

That diary entry was written after she'd been removed from the ward, forbidden to talk to her colleagues (who were probably also her friends given nursing culture) and was being faced with the prospect of having babies deaths lain at her door. According to the Guardian she was also directed to write things out in a diary by counsellors. It's an outpouring of stream of consciousness. About a line later she says "I didn't kill them".
If she saw a counsellor from the NHS, they may have messed with her head. If you're told to see someone because you're a baby murderer or you're unsure if your actions did kill a baby you're going to have thoughts like this. If you write them down and they get cherry picked it looks bad.

How many babies do because black nurses are supposed to care for them and don't? NHS care is so bad, I would be scared of leaving my baby unattended.

It’s interesting that her diary was used. Remember that article from last week where boys had been raped and couldn’t have counselling or help because the therapists notes would be admissible in court?
I dunno. I thought she was guilty but I want the truth. Is she’s not, then let’s have it all out on court

First post Pride rainbow, well done you.

It's passing. At this point it's worthless so the optimal outcome, multiple concessions and still fails, is not going to happen

Whether it passes or not, the fact remains that Starmer and co have had to completely gut the bill in the face of an enormous rebellion. It's the capstone to his failures over the last year and shows how weak he is.

e: Passed with a majority of only 75. Off to committee next.

It proceeds to phase three, albeit deeply watered down and lots of Labour MP's are still far from happy.

Starmer will be hoping the 22nd hurries up and he can have a Summer break - however, how peaceful the recess will be will be anybody's guess.

He can breath a sigh of relief, as tonight's vote was not guaranteed to be successful, but it shows Starmer is petrified of a rebellion and it's not a question of IF but WHEN it comes.

Conference season starts in just over two months (mid September is when the House rises again after roughly eight days of business!) and it looks increasingly likely that Starmer will either have to make a Lazarus type come back or admit defeat.

It's clear that Labour have cottoned on to the fact that the ISA is the easiest way to stick two fingers up to the government. If you can invest 5k or so per year into that then with compound interest you've basically got a very sizable tax free sum by the time you're pushing retirement, so combined with your taxed pension you've essentially got enough to never need to work again and pay as little tax as possible bar the forced ones (council).

If you can get closer to the limit per year you're looking at complete retirement aged 50.

Oh somebody think of the investment bankers!
Haha.
I'm sure you know that the theory is that if these investments aren't in cash, they are invested in ( UK ) businesses, which indirectly stimulates these businesses to invest and enhance the economy providing jobs and more spending power for the plebs ?
Investment banking isn't really concerned with what you're talking about here. The theory here is that the money is ( largely ) dormant in Cash ISAs, where as it will stimulate our economy if invested in UK stocks and shares. The problem is that this is kind of a forced vote of confidence in Labour too, as the condition for UK Companies to succeed is that the government is helping them and not taxing them into oblivion and tying them up in red tape. It would also help if they hadn't recently made hiring new employees more expensive too. Oh and then there's all the green policies from bacon chops Miliband making energy more expensive and handicapping business there too. Oh and then there's all the new workers' rights provisions that Ginger Scouse Slag is proposing and ........well, I think you get the message.
Ffs, i don’t care what you want you rapacious slimebags. We are taxed and taxed and you and your ilk have caused countless recessions. Let Joe Public put some money aside safely to save for a rainy day or their family future. Keep your filthy chitinous claws off it.
Taxation is down to the government. The uni party has increased tax to the highest rates in history. You can have a welfare state that wipes your arse from cradle to grave and funds all the anxious people on PIP or have less taxes and less services. That largely has nothing to do with investment banking.
I absolutely believe in the freedom of the individual to invest where and in what market they want. By that I mean when you invest in a cash ISA, you are taking on a ( very small ) risk for a rate of return. If you invest in companies ( shares and bonds ) then you take on more risk ( the share prices go down / the bond defaults ) for more reward. The investor should be free to do as they see fit.
If you have no faith in the current government, you should be free to invest in foreign assets.
This is just the government trying to diminish individual freedom again. Smaller government, less taxes, more individual freedom and consequences. This just smacks of trying to force people to do something the government want, instead of doing everything they can to make Britain the most attractive place to invest. This current government seems to be hellbent on making Britain the worst place to invest, but they're going to force you to invest there anyway.

Because the government knows best how to spend your money you fucking bigot. Now pay you tax, your VAT, your duty, your tax on your wages, your national insurance, and...fuck it, we'll just make something up ahahahahahahaha.

If the limit is reduced to only 5k a year like what is being discussed for ISA's and your getting taxed on it then honestly what would even be the point of having one? I don't even think their stupid at this point, I think the goal of the government is to never allow you to own a home (young people using ISA's as a way to buy a first home is a very large amount of people setting up ISA's).

This being one big scheme to try get people to invest into UK stocks is retarded. Not only is it too difficult and too much effort for most people. But why would anyone invest in UK stocks right now? Most companies have left at this point so you would end up investing in American stocks which defeats the purpose of this whole thing.

Anyone who has ever worked with people with "Allied health care profession" degrees will be able to tell you, Nurses are fucking insane. The level of self importance they have is off the scale and they're all unhinged in one way or another.

Nurses are why I don't work on my degree field along with how fucking atrocious the NHS is.

Yeah I get that. It’s just the sheer fucking cheek of it. The ultra rich get to squirrel their money away with loopholes, offshore, and art laundering. The rest of us should have the freedom to invest where we like, and what a lot of people want is a SAFE haven. Not to be exposed to massive risk. But no! We must be risky. We aren’t real people we are just units if economic growth. No offshore pile for you, and no little cash ISA for your modest dreams either. Pit it all against the markets so the line goes up for UK Plc and if you lose well fuck you.

My lifetime ISA has had a 4k max limit since I've had it and they chuck an extra grand on top after every year when I deposit the max. This limit reduction appears to have come out of nowhere, and I'm admittedly confused on what exactly would come of this. Does it mean that your cash ISAs get to be fiddled with like the Stocks and Shares ISAs that you can get with Vanguard, or something to that effect? Regardless, I'm slowly making my way towards being able to afford a home, though I could get a real belter if the prices were reduced...

Deport 10 million people.
