A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Lift lemon tea. If you're on your holibobs then Nestea or canned Liptons are acceptable substitutes
Liptons?!? Get the fuck out of the British news thread NOW. Is that a serious suggestion?? I'd rather drink my own piss than Liptons. Where are you even shopping in this country where you can buy that?

it's the old anrchotyranny.

the good and decent people are subject to totalitarian laws, snooping, punishment for wrong think, taxed to death etc.

the worst of us are allowed to do what the fuck they want with nothing ever done.
True, and I think most decent people and (dare I say it) some of his own MP's have said 'that's enough!'

Forgive me, Clem...

I typically see them in bottles but there's the odd can there and about depending.
I'm partial to lemon.

Starmer has caved to his backbenchers. The proposed changes to PIP will only apply to new claimants.
That won't help any one because PIP is so often only given after going through the courts. They will refuse PIP renewals so you're off PIP and then when you appeal they will count it as a new claim.

I can see their games and how they will word salad it.

I was going to say, is Scotland known for it's tea? Also:

"He deceived luxury establishments by selling imported tea as Scottish produce, offering varieties with names like Highland Green"

If some Scottish bloke approached me with a bag of something he called "Highland Green" I would not think it would be tea.
Imagine trusting Scotland with tea after what happened in China.

It may not be enough to quell the rebellion.
The government is expected to announce a deal shortly with Labour rebels on its planned benefits changes.
Multiple sources tell the BBC existing claimants of the Personal Independence Payment (Pip) will continue to receive what they currently get, as will recipients of the health element of Universal Credit.
It is also expected that the support to help people into employment will be fast forwarded so it happens sooner.
The concessions amount to a massive climbdown from the government, which was staring at the prospect of defeat if it failed to accommodate the demands of over 100 of its backbenchers.
It comes after Sir Keir Starmer spent Thursday making calls to shore up support among the 120 Labour MPs who backed an amendment to stop the government's flagship welfare bill progressing through Parliament.
Speaking in the Commons earlier, Sir Keir said he wanted to "see reform implemented with Labour values and fairness".
He said he recognised that MPs of all parties were "eager" to reform the "broken" welfare system.
Perfect. Every single shitty decision from here on onwards people need to be reminded that their local Labour MP should have threatened to rebel and that if they didn't or they did and got no support it's because Labour only really care about voters like this.

Something like:

'If you don't back me then you're leaving the door open for Nigel to be PM!'

'Meh, fuck it, you don't care - we'll just go back to 'Netflix and Chill' all day like it's 2020.'

Thank you very much for the tea suggestions, as I can stomach tea without milk and am keto for the next few months.

As for Starmer, he is fucked. The discontent has been looming, and after not even a year, his leadership has been nothing but betrayal and scandal. He scorned his new backbench with the winter fuel and they were rightly pissed. He has been nothing but appalling and an international laughing stock.

The rebels know they have the killshot, so why let off? If they are being quiet, then you can tell they are secretly talking on. I think Rayner is going to be a massive architect in this, too.

Labour voters are absolutely going to do the Joe Biden thing where the second another candidate pops up they'll talk about how they always hated Starmer and are glad to be rid of him, despite spending the past year publicly rimming him.

Why would the rebels knock Starmer over now? They don't need to. He blinked and they won, and now they know, as does everyone else, that they are in charge of the government without being accountable for what the government does. Starmer and Reeves can be the face of it, they can take all the flak for another 4 years. The rebels can stay comfy in the shadows.

Except the rebels want Starmer gone, whatever the cost.

Today's Times front cover led with 'Rebels Demand Regime Change'.

Starmer, Reeves, Rayner, Lammy (the Twattybummies) have to go - end of.

When these MP's would in theory rather Nigel be PM (as he's the clear alternative unless Ed Davey or Carla Denayer can perform a miracle) then it's worse than bad... it's shitawfulbad!

This mother fucker was uppricing Yorkshire Tea. Odd question, I want a good tea, I always have mine with milk, may I have some recommendations from the masses, please?
Yorkshire is my go to. My Iranian mate gets tea sent from there and it’s absolutely divine. I keep asking what kind of tea it is and she just says ‘dunno, it’s tea.’ She mixes it with peach, which i don’t, but whatever it is it’s the best black tea I’ve ever tasted.
I just looked up uk tea and there are several, even in Scotland which o find very surprising because tea needs acid soil and a temp above 13 but below 30 and i would imagine tea plants would struggle badly here

But you can't call these individuals out in any significant capacity because that'd be construed as an incitement of violence. They don't qualify as "public figures" because the only way to find out who they are is to look into the charity online and look into the trustees and leadership which is typically nested. Also they appear to have a fast turnover on trustees since the current lot are different from the last.
Sounds like there's a need for a nativist friendly news outlet to start churning out some reporting on them. Gript seem to be doing this in Ireland re the immigrant hotels, regular articles that amount to not much more than "person X is director of company y that received z millions to host fugees". Gets the names in to the public discourse
