Yeah, when I land at 10pm, disembark, finally grab my bags and drag my ass to the curb around 11, I wanna be waiting for some rando to hopefully find me in short order just so I can drive their ass back to their house (is that how it works? Or they just get an uber or something? Dont know dont care), instead of walking up to the counter/hopping on the shuttle and sliding into a just-detailed late-model rental, for which I have no inclination to give two fucks about its returned condition, and accrue points while doing it.

This doesn't make any sense as "back in the 1980s" joke, especially the music part. That's more of a "back in the 2000s" joke. For the 80s it should be more like "we taped it off the radio!" Then you start to explain what radio "was" versus a smartphone and everybody laughs.

He's trying to steal a base by defining "the left" or "progressive" as "policy that measurably makes peoples lives better" (unspoken is the assumption then that "the right" or "conservative" is "policy that measurably makes peoples lives worse") which isn't far from the people who automatically blame everything on capitalism. As Mike there gets at, one of these is honest about their ideological bias and it's probably not Wu.
