Ah yes, the "mass infrastructure" argument, because it's totally justifiable to run light rail and the like out to towns and villages with populations of less than 1000 people in the middle fucking nowhere. There isn't enough tax revenue anywhere to pay for that shit, especially in places where SUV's/trucks are the most common form of transportation because people actually need vehicles like that to get around.
Fun fact, in the state of Illinois, (excluding the Chicago metro area) over 70 percent of public roads are "blacktop" or gravel, and are maintained by counties or townships who receive almost zero revenue from the state or federal governments relying instead on the taxes gleaned from residents. In counties and townships that have low populations, you can imagine that tax revenue is fairly low, and because of this, roads are not maintained to quite Lemans standards to accommodate sports cars, and in winter, sometimes you need something more capable than a Porsche to get around.
Of course, all that said, we could just all change genders and marry screaming foreigners of some kind, and hope they're rich enough to buy us porches and let us sit home and do nothing but play vidya and order takeout.
