China virus was a man-made disaster caused by China attempting to cargo-cult a modern biotech industry when their researchers don't even understand the point of PPE or hygiene because disease is caused by ghosts.

I'm not even joking, I worked in a building that was accross the street from a cemetery we had a lot of Chinese PhD candidates come though - did their higher ed in western schools - who would make up any and every excuse to have their desks moved from that side of the building. Only when one got denied did she finally admit it was because she was afraid the ghosts would come possess her and drain her chi or something. But then the whole PhD pool got pink eye because no one ever washed their fucking hands, and they got banned from unsupervised lab access because fuck using googles and gloves. Its also far too stuffy with the door closed, need to prop that shit.

Anyway, if China hadn't been trying to ape the WHO viral research teams by collecting & experimenting on their own plague bats in the middle of a fucking city, this would just be the normal flu. So yeah, it was a conscious decision.

I would doubt Frank has spent much, if any, bench time in years. Sure the patent guy (agent or atty) might do a facilities tour, but that's about it. In biotech/chem that's one of the draws of moving to patent work...getting out of the wet lab.
It'd be more accurate to say he knows HOW it's done, not how to do it (I know HOW people climb a 5.14, but I can't do it). that's what a patent agent typically does - they abstract the invention, Not a diss, it's actually helpful b/c the boots-on-the-ground inventors/technicians can get overly focused on the actual practice and ten to have tunnel vision (so they thing "screw" or "nail" specifically instead of "fastener")
I highly doubt Frank could go in tomorrow and start pumping out the vax.

I think it's more about that "smug superiority" John's latched onto as a catch phrase

I've been busy and out of the loop so I'm sure it's come up here... I watched "The Lady and the Dale" on HBO. Reminded me of John. In terms of running swindles though, John is a lightweight. Liz is twice the man John is... and at least three times the woman.

And it's not like bad web design is exclusive to the backwoods hicks of the Deep South. You could throw a dart at a map of the US, and I'm sure that most of the time, the website for the city or county you hit won't have been seriously updated in years. Most local governments don't really have the time or budget to update their website to Web 2.0™ standards all for the few people that even bother to view, especially small towns of <5000 people. A basic layout that's easy to follow and easily updated with relevant news is all that's needed for most cases, and flashy transitions and unnecessary effects will only make it take longer to load, which can be a problem for people out in the sticks with slow and/or unreliable internet.

Not only that, but I'm sure you could find countless examples of outdated websites from state and federal government agencies, even if they're just about some project that wrapped up years ago but nobody bothered to take the page down. And even if they look "modern," they're notorious for being slow and buggy since the public sector has no competition and thus no drive to innovate. Remember the disaster that was healthcare.gov? Kiwi Farms remembers.

John, meanwhile, thinks that no problem can be overengineered, and would demand the latest and greatest designs with all manner of shiny things he can gawk at. John, as always, is an idiot.

The Mississippi Baffle has a thin membrane that slides over its eyes in low-light situations. It's original purpose was to provide an advantage in nocturnal hunting, for catching small mammals to rend into bloody gobbets for raw red consumption. It works ok when your porsche headlight goes out too, I guess.
