"Writers are some of the most vulnerable members of our society" I agree John, children, seriously ill people, poor and abused children and everyone else pales in comparison to the plight that modern writers such as or poor vulnerable Bearded psycho Chuck Wending. His star was fanfics didn't even get good reviews could you believe such an atrocity!

I bet John counts in those who spend all their day on twitter wasting away their life over stupid shit as "writers too"

John, the professional journalist whose husband is a shitty sci-fi writer, is too stupid to realize that no one who writes the dreadful novilization tie-ins for Disney movies ever sees a penny in royalties. The books are all written as work for hire at pay equivalent to one dollar and other valuable considerations. Disney keeps all of the profits. That's why they're written almost exclusively by no-name fanfic hacks like Chuck Wendig.

I have known talented, but not yet successful writers who wrote tie-in novels to make ends meet. The advance is pretty solid, but yeah, you definitely get jack shit after other than the embarrassment of having your name on a tie-in novel.

That's true. And sometimes the studios will fork over the money to get a mid-list name writer -- someone like Alan Dean Foster -- to spend a few weeks pounding out a forgettable novelization. But 95 percent of that genre is written by semiliterate hacks.

Ed Markey was a no-brainer shoo-in and having a bullshit convention just to ratify it, at the cost of a few dozen more cases of coronavirus, would be bullshit.
