Snow, floods, rain and heat are local and tangible things that affects a region. An invisible pandemic where anyone around you could be unclean plague bearers is another thing. Heavy snowfall doesn't affect you feeling safe touching the handle to the toilet door at the office. You don't want society as a whole to get cabin fever.

$500 isn't completely bonkers compared to the cost of buying a real NES and modding it to do what the NT does. I'll leave it to the reader to decide whether doing that in any form is bonkers.

Most normies, that includes Wu, who's a Fake Geek Girl, can manage without cycle perfect emulation. Bri does not need 6502 Quirk Mode emulation. Any emulator will do. I had no NES/SNES/SMS past but I got myself some hardware that emulates those platforms (GO-DROID, $30, Bittboy, $35), and they do all the stuff and much more.

Wu will buy $500 or $1500 BS FPGA True Emulator because she has a paypig to foot the bill. More money than sense, and it's other people's money.

As a long-time fan of The Expanse since the first book, I want to believe that the Twitter account is just run by some dumb intern, but I'm assuming it's not. I guess the Venn diagram overlap between competent sci-fi writers and knowing that John Walker Flynt is not a smart, entrepreneurial, tech-savvy feminist isn't very large.

But yeah, agreed with @Dr. Merkwurdichliebe. Even as a fan, they're not literary greatness. They're perfectly fine novels with fun characters and an engaging plot, but they're far from "the greatest literary work to be written in [John's] lifetime." All that says to me is "I don't read many books," or in John's case, "I don't listen to many audiobooks."
