There is very high chance that John will either lose, damage or fail to set up those keys properly and somehow get locked out for a while.
 
These are actually worse than the time based authentication used in google authenticator. At least with google auth, you can backup the secret key. With these, if you lose them then you're fucked. Or at least have to go through the same social engineerable unlock process the hackers will exploit.

The thing is that there's no such thing as idiot proof, because once you try to make something idiot proof, there's going to be a bigger idoit that manages to fuck things up.

And if they're so great, why didn't he have them already as the crack cybersecurity godzilla he proclaims to be? Seems he wanted them and used the not campaign/campaign email accounts as an excuse to dip into campaign funds.
